AIBU to not understand why anyone can vote Labour?

Never mind the fact that they destroyed the economy, never mind the fact that they are joining up with the SNP & never mind the fact that their only policy is to make whatever promises will get them into power...if they do get into power we get Ed Miliband as Prime Minister!

This is the man who failed to eat a bacon sandwich, who sniffs peoples hair on TV, who has 2 kitchens in a £3 million house and talks about poverty! This is the man who redid his fathers will to reduce inheritance tax yet bangs on, endlessly, about tax avoidance. This is the man who though talking to Russell Brand was the way to help him appeal to the 'yoof'. This is the man who stabbed his brother in the back to become leader of the Labour Party.

Okay there are other reasons I fail to understand why anyone would vote Labour, North Staffordshire NHS, Rotherham Council and so one. But realistically its the embarrassment I'm going to feel on May 8th when he's gurning outside 10 Downing Street!

Although I fully agree that Keir Hardy he is not. But then, Hardy was a minority in a party largely made up of wealthier men. It did not stop them from performing well in power. Similarly, Tony Benn was wealthy but his Labour credentials admirable. The drift to the centre is not Milliband's fault. It began years ago, after the Kinnock near miss. Centralisation is the fate of most mature political systems that are nominally democratic.

Whatthefucknameisntalreadytake · 30/04/2015 19:31

I think they are a long way from perfect but may well be the least worst option.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 30/04/2015 19:33

If you are an adult and you are ACTUALLY discussing bacon sandwiches as a factor in your electoral decisions then you should be stripped of your vote.

And then you should be matched to the grave of Emily Wilding Davison and made to explain yourself.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 30/04/2015 19:35

Sorry about the apostrophe ribbing Singing. That was twattish of me.

Though the apostrophes are the only thing I agreed with on your post.

stubbornstains · 30/04/2015 19:35

I think Miliband has drifted a bit to the left, compared to Blair (not exactly difficult, I grant you). Although hardly the "next worse thing to Stalin" figure the right wing press seem laughably trying to portray him as...Hmm

FaFoutis · 30/04/2015 19:35

The 80s were scary and mean minded. I think this lot only look a little better, to me at least, because I have a house and a job. I had nothing in the 80s, if I had nothing now I expect it would feel very scary and nasty. The idea of being 'sanctioned', being starved as a punishment, is shocking.

MissDemelzaCarne · 30/04/2015 19:37

YABVU
How can you can describe yourself as a 'politics nerd' then write such juvenile nonsense? Hmm

stubbornstains · 30/04/2015 19:37

I have close to nothing fafoutis. It feels very scary and nasty Sad.

blue42 · 30/04/2015 19:37

I'm not voting for any of them. I've voted in every previous election since I was 18 and I've finally lost the will. I don't see any significant difference between any of them, and I don't see any desire in any of them to do anything about the issues that matter to me.

One thing I am sure of is that whoever forms the next government will spend the term reacting to events, rather than doing anything proactive, so all the bluff and bluster of the campaign is just fluff as far as I'm concerned.

It's a very interesting experience watching an election when, for the first time in your life, you genuinely don't give a shit what the outcome is.

ZenNudist · 30/04/2015 19:38

Ugh, can't dignify this with an answer. Am Hmm that labour won't get a majority because of what's happened in Scotland.

Am disgusted by the snivelling weaselling, lying, backstabbing, flaccid, dull Tory campaign. They have said and done nothing to make themselves look better.

Meanwhile I went into the election campaign thinking EM not that credible and have been very pleasantly surprised. I approve of labour policies and have fingers and toes crossed for labour prime minister in the next few weeks).

Focusfocus · 30/04/2015 19:39

Simple. For me.

I don't vote for right wing parties.i simply do not. To vote right wing would mean becoming a different person.

I am a leftie. I vote left. I would like to vote green but won't this time as it won't get the Tories out.

Miltonmaid · 30/04/2015 19:40

What do you mean they're joining with the SNP?

taxi4ballet · 30/04/2015 19:40

Well, lets put it this way - my MP is Nadine Dorries, so I'm not going to be voting Tory am I?!!!!

Thank goodness we have a Monster Raving Loony candidate this time - all things considered, their policies are more coherent than anything else on offer.

SingingHinnies · 30/04/2015 19:40

TondelayoSchwarzkopf no worries, we can agree to disagree

notquiteruralbliss · 30/04/2015 19:41

I can and I will. Despite being a high rate tax payer. I really don't give a rats arse about how telegenic their leader is but I do like their redistributive policies and their wish to promote a fairer society.

usualsuspect333 · 30/04/2015 19:41

Do you mean the young people working in not real jobs. That last for 6 months and get them off the unemployment figures?

There's a lot of those.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 30/04/2015 19:42

Same here notquite.

CrispyFern · 30/04/2015 19:42

Glad I read your incisive analysis of politics in Britain today OP. That's decided my vote!

Fadingmemory · 30/04/2015 19:42

Two ambitious brothers stood for election. One received more votes than the other. No backs were harmed.

FaFoutis · 30/04/2015 19:43

I'm sorry stubbornstains, what they have done is disgusting. I hope things improve for you.

There is a difference between parties for people who have nothing.

zen1 · 30/04/2015 19:43

You are 'never minding' a lot of 'facts'. What about the fact that they are not intent on dismantling the Welfare State?

jellybeans · 30/04/2015 19:44

YABU

I am voting Labour. Best of a bad bunch. Labour values are more compassionate. Also the NHS and welfare is safer with them. I like Ed and don't give a shit how he eats his sandwich. Let him eat what he wants how he wants. I think it was great him meeting Brand. He will a reaches a large audience of perhaps apathetic potential voters. Good luck to him and hope he is the next PM!

MissDemelzaCarne · 30/04/2015 19:44

You should think about canvassing OP, you're so convincing. Hmm

Painfulbits · 30/04/2015 19:45

Labour covered up child abuse, and continue to do so. They are scum.

SorryToDisturbYou · 30/04/2015 19:47

"This is the man who stabbed his brother in the back to become leader of the Labour Party."

Now, listen up, folks, cause I have a question about this.^^

If David M had won the leadership election, would he have similarly 'stabbed his brother in the back' and be ineligible for consideration as PM?

This question keeps me up at night. not just DS, oh no
