AIBU to not understand why anyone can vote Labour?

Never mind the fact that they destroyed the economy, never mind the fact that they are joining up with the SNP & never mind the fact that their only policy is to make whatever promises will get them into power...if they do get into power we get Ed Miliband as Prime Minister!

This is the man who failed to eat a bacon sandwich, who sniffs peoples hair on TV, who has 2 kitchens in a £3 million house and talks about poverty! This is the man who redid his fathers will to reduce inheritance tax yet bangs on, endlessly, about tax avoidance. This is the man who though talking to Russell Brand was the way to help him appeal to the 'yoof'. This is the man who stabbed his brother in the back to become leader of the Labour Party.

Okay there are other reasons I fail to understand why anyone would vote Labour, North Staffordshire NHS, Rotherham Council and so one. But realistically its the embarrassment I'm going to feel on May 8th when he's gurning outside 10 Downing Street!

Tory troll alert ...

SideOrderofChips · 30/04/2015 20:08

After the state of the country after Tony Blair and Gordon Brown i really can not understand how anyone could vote Labour again personally.

Aermingers · 30/04/2015 20:08

Why on earth would anybody vote Labour because they opposed university fees? They introduced them. And abolished the grant. Social mobility was destroyed under Labour. In 1996 most working class kids could afford to go to University and buy their own home. Most couldn't by 2010.

CaptainHolt · 30/04/2015 20:10

Oh, and while we're talking about backstabbers, what about Dave's nasty, grubby little move on Bercow, which he then let Hague take the shit for on his very last day in parliament and didn't even have the guts to come into the house and face the music? It really summed up what a nasty shit he is.

LineRunner · 30/04/2015 20:17

singing I'm not entirely clear on your points about council houses and vanity projects.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 30/04/2015 20:20

I don't understand how anyone could vote Tory after the way they've ruined the lives of people with disabilities, created an 'us and them' state against people who claim benefits, and purposefully made life difficult for anyone on a low wage (simultaneously doing nothing to help them raise their wage)... but hey, thank heavens for a democracy, eh?

Although if you're really basing your disbelief on people voting for someone who was photographed on one occasion, eating a bacon sandwich unattractively, I'm not sure you're old enough to have a vote. I'd like to see everyone who's poked fun at Ed over this, photgraphed eating their bacon sandwich looking like a supermodel.

Everyone knows, if you're being conscious of how you look, you're not enjoying the bacon properly, and are undeserving of said bacon. Misses point

RonaldMcDonald · 30/04/2015 20:22

joke thread, non?

CaptainHolt · 30/04/2015 20:25

And while were talking about meeting people who you deem to be unsuitable. I add to my list (of Rupert Murdoch, Jeremy Clarkson and Katie Hopkins) Enoch Adeboye, campaigner against gay rights who supports prison sentences for lgbt people and promotes witchcraft. Makes Russell Brand seem quite tame.

ilovesooty i know a woman at work who has a daughter on one who works at sports direct and it causes a lot of problems for her, she is looking for something else. All i can comment on is what i see around me. I know because i was on IS for a few years between the 2 governments, when the tories came in the job centre gave me a lot more help, before they used to see me once every 6mnth this changed to going on courses and placements to help me into work so i guess this is the same for some others. Its hard becase my whole family vote Labour and will be this time, typically hate the tories but i just dont think Labour are the answer, im not sure the conservatives are either though so i am baseing it purely on what i can see if that makes sense

WoodliceCollection · 30/04/2015 20:31

If people with posh houses aren't allowed to talk about poverty in a sympathetic way, can we also please ban them from spouting Mailesque shite when they are on the other side? I'm pretty sure Cameron and Farage's houses are equally posh.

pushingupdaisies · 30/04/2015 20:32

is your name Katie Hopkins? You sound like her i.e. thick and bigoted. YABVVVU

WoodliceCollection · 30/04/2015 20:32

Wow, Captainholt, that link is really a bit scary.

slippermaiden · 30/04/2015 20:32

So who will you vote for? He is a bit of a wally, but they all are. I don't actually dislike Cameron, he had a very poorly son and showed great dignity when he died. But his policies are awful. I am an NHS worker. I would normally vote green but they say you may as well give it to the blues.

slippermaiden · 30/04/2015 20:34

I think Milliband is Jewish? That's why he has two kitchens and wouldn't eat bacon!

SingingHinnies · 30/04/2015 20:34

LineRunner there is a large social and affordable housing build going on in my town

The vanity projects are the things i have seen the councils waste money on which have just been a total waste of money and could have been spent elsewhere

The claims you can look up on line, some of the ones for my councils really are shocking although im sure in other areas the tories are doing the same

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 30/04/2015 20:51

Jewish people have two kitchens? Confused

GiddyOnZackHunt · 30/04/2015 20:53

I'm also interested to hear the self confessed politics nerd explain her statements.

I do think that the Labour party have lost touch with their original power base and I think it may have been me who made the comment about Labour moving towards an intellectual idea of what the working people should want. Doesn't make them wrong but it does explain the move from Labour to kippers in some areas. I will still give my vote to Labour even though they'll never win in my constituency.
They are still the best option of the mainstream parties IMO.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 30/04/2015 20:55

Tondelayo - it's to do with keeping kosher I believe.Plainly only the better off observant Jew can do that.

Stars66 · 30/04/2015 20:57

I am voting labour and wonder why anyone who cares about our society would vote elsewhere!
If you are thinking about where the money went, let's remember the thatcher years when public services were all sold off and privatised

msgrinch · 30/04/2015 21:02

Because I damn well want to! so there. Grin

bringonyourwreckingball · 30/04/2015 21:06

Firstwetakemanhattan I'm in Clegg's constituency too. And also voting Labour.
Anyone who thinks the financial crash would have been better with the Tories in charge is intellectually deficient. They are the party of DEREGULATiON it would have been considerably worse with them in charge. The Tories have made life miserable for the poor and disabled and you are deluded if you don't realise it will get significantly worse if they get in power again. They want to make £12billion in cuts to welfare - where from? They won't say. I wonder why?

needmorespace · 30/04/2015 21:47

^^ this a thousand times (why oh why is there not a like button)
And OP, I am actually scared that you have a vote...

Dawndonnaagain · 30/04/2015 22:10

bringonyourwreckingball It looks as though it's child tax credits and Disability Living Allowance, although we can't be sure. What we can be sure of is it's such a vote loser they won't discuss it until after the election. A tad suspicious, surely.
OP You cannot possibly be any sort of political geek. You very obviously know very little about politics. I suspect a you are part of a social media team.

chlo95 · 30/04/2015 22:31

I have voted Labour because I care more about social equality than how good a leader looks on TV. Interesting point, Labour in 2008 were running a lower budget deficit than Thatcher, until the recession hit. The Tories have used austerity to set an agenda which justifies cuts and unfortunately everyone else has bought into it. I'd rather have an economy running a budget deficit than people relying on food banks.

Lucyccfc · 30/04/2015 22:59

So how is a global recession completely the fault of Labour.

If anyone bothers to look at the research from the IFS, you'll find that the country has pretty much run 'in debt' for years, under a succession of different governments. It's the Tory led newspapers who would have us believe that Labour left the country in a state. Does anyone really think that we would have escaped a global crisis and recession had the Tories been in power - I don't think so.

I have always voted Labour, despite them previously being at the beck and call of the Unions. However, I still prefer Labour to the Tory's who are at the beck and call of the 1% of the richest people in this country.

We have a housing crisis due to Thatcher allowing council homes to be sold off and not allowing councils to build more affordable homes. Cameron wants to continue this crazy policy.

We have a huge amount of very rich people who can afford to take part in schemes to minimise the tax they pay. The Tory party don't mind though, as these tax dodgers are the same people who fund the Tory party.

The Tory party have continually attacked the poorest people in our society and the use of food banks is at an all time high, whilst giving a 5% tax cut to those people who earn more than £150k.

No party is perfect, but I never understand how people can bring themselves to vote for a party, who clearly are only interested in benefits for the rich.

I have to say though, that my biggest fear is Labour going into a coalition with the SNP.
