I have two boys already and am expecting a little girl in 3 months.

I like the name Brogan as the first name. I have read this is a male Irish name but know a few girls called brogan.

When I tell people the name they do that . Oh that's nice....With a weird smile face.

Do you like Brogan Rose or Brogan Raine? Or am I being silly.

I like it. Prefer Rose as the second name.

pollypocket123 · 18/04/2015 09:18

I think call her whatever you want! I don't like the name, personally, but think it sounds like it could be a feminine name as well as for boys.

ImNameyChangey · 18/04/2015 09:19

It's nice enough but don't call her that if you ever plan to live in Australia. It sounds like "Bogan" which is a sort of Australian yob.

LokiBear · 18/04/2015 09:19

I like both.

NorksWar · 18/04/2015 09:19

I love it! Prefer Brogan Rose though

dexter73 · 18/04/2015 09:19

It sounds like quite a nice name to me but I just googled it and this was the first thing that came up!

Smartiepants79 · 18/04/2015 09:20

Brogan is ok. Sounds like a boys name to me though, it's definitely masculine. I'd never choose it but it's not awful. There are not good shortenings for it that I can think of.
Don't like Raine at all.

Ineedtimeoff · 18/04/2015 09:20

You need to have more confidence in your choice. It doesn't really matter if others like the name that you have chosen, you and your DH need to be happy with it and be able to brush of any negative comments. It's a name and names come in and out of fashion and we all have different tastes. Personally, I like the name but there are others who won't, but that is the same with any name you chose. Congratulations on your pregnancy and good luck what ever name you choose Flowers

PinkSquash · 18/04/2015 09:21

I knew a girl called Brogane, with the middle name Rose it is lovely.

Mrsstarlord · 18/04/2015 09:22

It makes me think of a (male) character from an action movie, but like Bruce Willis in Die Hard. Why is that? Is there someone with a similar name?
I prefer Raine as a middle name (not hyphenated) as having a unisex sounding name followed by Rose doesn't scan quite right to me but your daughter your choice. Probably best not to ask other people as you will get massively contradictory views.

DefinitelyNotElsa · 18/04/2015 09:22

I've taught several female Brogans and think it's a very sweet name. I prefer Brogan Rose out of the two suggestions though.

scarletforya · 18/04/2015 09:23

Well, it's a bit like Logan or Reagan etc. It's a surname really. It's not really very feminine but not all girls names have to be.

What about Teagan it's similar but more a recognised first name.

Mrsstarlord · 18/04/2015 09:24

Scarletforya

That's it! Thank you Smile

BaldricksTurnip · 18/04/2015 09:24

Sounds like 'broken' to me. I can't imagine a small child saying 'Hi, my name is broken'...?

fatlazymummy · 18/04/2015 09:25

It's ok.
I would try and imagine how your little girl will feel about it as she is growing up. I think it's a little bit risky tbh. Yes, she might be happy with it but I can see a lot of people wouldn't be.

Grantaire · 18/04/2015 09:25

You should choose a name you like. I don't like it because I don't like surname style names. I know they're very popular in America and I lump Brogan in with names like Taylor and Morgan. They are very much not my kind of thing. Doesn't matter though. I suspect you'd dislike my choice too. What you like is what matters. Boys names for girls I do like btw. Stevie for example.

All children have the middle name Rose nowadays. It's the law so I can see why you'd choose that. WinkGrin

The only thing I will say, is as somebody else pointed out, it is slightly reminiscent of bogan. My Aussie SIL often referred to people as bogans. It's a derogatory term, similar to the equally deplorable 'chav'.

DisappointedOne · 18/04/2015 09:26

Depends where you live. Broga is Welsh for frog.

carabos · 18/04/2015 09:28

There's a young man works on the checkout at the supermarket local to us who is called Brogan. I was a bit Confused when I first noticed because to me it sounds like a girl's name. I don't like it on either however but that doesn't matter.

DakotaFanny · 18/04/2015 09:29

I love the name Broghan (but shouldn't it have an h in it??)

I teach a Broghan and she is smart, kind, funny and lovely, this may have skewed my perception!!

Definitely Broghan Rose though- adding Raine makes it a much more 'out ther' name.

FortyFacedFuckers · 18/04/2015 09:29

I like it.

Latara · 18/04/2015 09:32

I don't like it but then I prefer more 'girlie' names generally.

BlinkAndMiss · 18/04/2015 09:32

I definitely don't like it, it sounds far too masculine for a girl. Sorry :(.

SuburbanRhonda · 18/04/2015 09:34

Definitely agree it sounds like a character from an action movie.

AyMamita · 18/04/2015 09:34

Didn't know this was a name. Agree with the PP who said it sounds like broken.

Are you familiar with the Aussie term "bogan"? It's not a compliment.

CountingThePennies · 18/04/2015 09:34

I dont like it

I think its a chavvy name. To me it falls in the same place as Levi, Chardonay etc
