I have two boys already and am expecting a little girl in 3 months.

I like the name Brogan as the first name. I have read this is a male Irish name but know a few girls called brogan.

When I tell people the name they do that . Oh that's nice....With a weird smile face.

Do you like Brogan Rose or Brogan Raine? Or am I being silly.

Sounds like a surname to me.

Personally don't like.

Like Raine.

but use it if you want!

I don't like it personally, to me it sounds a little masculine maybe I'm thinking of "bogan" like someone else said but I don't think it's a crazy name that would disadvantage her. If you like it go for it.

EastMidsMummy · 18/04/2015 09:36

I know a young woman (20s) called Brogan. She is lovely, as is her name.

lurklurk · 18/04/2015 09:36

What about Bronagh? Similar sound but a girls name?

lightsalive · 18/04/2015 09:38

Thank you all I live in the UK so was not familiar with bogan.

I just don't know...I like briar too but briar rose is a bit much I think due to Disney. I think I will need to think about this more, problem is I do love brogan.

I quite like. Prefer Morag tho.

I'd love a daughter called Morag, but it doesn't "go" with any of my other daughters' names.

ppeatfruit · 18/04/2015 09:39

Only fatlazymum has mentioned, the fact that you are naming a child who will grow up to be an ADULT who may well HATE the name. She might get bullied about it at school, called brog for short etc. IMO it's more important to think how the child will feel about it.

Give her a nice middle name and don't be surprised if she hates Brogan.

Eyre89 · 18/04/2015 09:40

I know a Broghan and she's is from an Irish family. I think Broghan Rose is lovely.

BalloonSlayer · 18/04/2015 09:41

I thought Brogan was a girl's name, if I saw one on a register I'd assume a girl.

I also thought it was an Australian name, but ImNameyChangey has made me think I am wrong. Perhaps my sister who lives in Aus or one of her DCs had a friend called Brogan and I have mentally filed it with Teagan as a popular Aussie name for girls.

crymeariverwoo · 18/04/2015 09:43

I like the name and love the middle name raine. To me, both names sound girlie! ! but I think it really does depend where people are from.

pieinthesky123 · 18/04/2015 09:44

I love it. I don't know anyone else with that name and therefore I don't have any associations with it to influence my opinion. It would suit any girl in my opinion and would grow with her from a baby to a woman. I like Raine as again, I don't know anyone else with the name.

I also like Bronte for the exact same reason.

The only thing I would say is that it might get shortened to Brogie for example and although you can't really stop that, how does that sound and would that put you off.

lightsalive · 18/04/2015 09:44

I know a few brogan's who are adults and they love their name. They love it's different and pretty. Come to think about it these ladies themselves are very kind and pretty, maybe this is why I like the name so much

gabsdot45 · 18/04/2015 09:46

Brog is the Irish word for shoe and brogana is the plural. It's not a real gealic name. However I really like it for a girl or boy go for it.

Magmatic80 · 18/04/2015 09:46

I know a Brogan, I always thought it was a lovely name. Brogan Rose is beautiful

Excitedforxmas · 18/04/2015 09:48

I love it!

lightsalive · 18/04/2015 09:49

I can see what your saying about it being shortened to brog or brogue but think it will be on as my son is called Daniel and no one seems to shorten his name, maybe because we all say Daniel ourselves and not Dan. His 6 and even his class mates shout Daniel across the playground as opposed to Dan or Danny.

Or Wogan? ??Name your DD after an aging radio presenter?

QueQuesto · 18/04/2015 09:50

I know two female Brogans, both teens, never thought it was a strange name. I prefer Brogan to Briar.

SisterNancySinatra · 18/04/2015 09:51

Princess Diana's stepmother was called Raine and Diana nicknamed her " acid raine". That's the only Raine I've heard of for what it's worth Confused

Custardcream14 · 18/04/2015 09:52

I know a Brogan - she's very girly. With less popular names you only make associations based on those you know called it.

Mumzy · 18/04/2015 09:52

I personally don't like the your names but so what you might not like my dcs names. I find the acceptably of a name very much depends on where you live and your social circle. I personally don't like Arlo, Milo, Wilf, Imogen, Skyla which are rife around here If you like the name and can put up with others possible negative reactions to it go for it. Your baby your choice.

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/04/2015 09:57

I don't think it it a particularly nice name, at all.

Are there any other potential names?

MidniteScribbler · 18/04/2015 09:57

As an aussie, I couldn't ever imagine this as a name. It's just too close to 'bogan', which as people have already said is not a complimentary term for someone.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 18/04/2015 09:58

It's okay, definitely not one to avoid if you really like it. I think I also prefer the spelling Broghan - it seems to make the name more appealing.

Rose is definitely popular but infinitely nicer than Raine.

Along similar lines, Brighid, Bronagh, Beatrice.
