I have two boys already and am expecting a little girl in 3 months.

I like the name Brogan as the first name. I have read this is a male Irish name but know a few girls called brogan.

When I tell people the name they do that . Oh that's nice....With a weird smile face.

Do you like Brogan Rose or Brogan Raine? Or am I being silly.

Also, would she not be nicknamed "Bro"?

scarletforya · 18/04/2015 15:53

Oh, Briar is lovely!

PlanningMyFuture · 18/04/2015 16:17

Brogan Rose! I love it. So jealous now

Ratfinkandbobo · 18/04/2015 16:21

Deffo not Reagan (exorcistShock)

natwebb79 · 18/04/2015 16:30

I taught two girls called Brogan in the same year and never gave it a second thought other than it was quite a nice name. I guess it helped that both girls were wonderful. Smile

workadurka · 18/04/2015 16:31

I also wondered about it being shortened to Bro... Which if she wasn't a delicate very feminine little girl could be ammunition for bullies?

And I know you said your DS' name wasn't shortened but he's only 6. Wait another 6 years...

RufusTheReindeer · 18/04/2015 16:48

I like Brogan Rose

pilates · 18/04/2015 16:53

Yes, it's awful

MythicalChicken · 18/04/2015 16:55

Sorry, but it's horrible Shock.

shitebag · 18/04/2015 16:55

I know 3 female Brogan's all in their 20's/30's, it was quite a popular name where I grew up.

Its not a name I'd choose personally for either sex as I'm not keen on the harsh sounds but I think its a perfectly acceptable name :)

GlitteringJasper · 18/04/2015 16:58

It's very manly.

Don't like it!

CleverPlansAndSecretTricks · 18/04/2015 17:07

Morag (suggested up thread) is LOVELY and has quite a similar feel to Broghan

KatieKaye · 18/04/2015 17:08

Sorry, but Broghan Rose sounds like someone with a cold saying "broken nose".

Don't like it at all.

Pumpkinpositive · 18/04/2015 17:13

Sorry, but Broghan Rose sounds like someone with a cold saying "broken nose".

LMAO.

Just tried it. It does. Grin

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 18/04/2015 17:17

Grin At Broken Nose.

OurGlass · 18/04/2015 17:20

Oh god yes, broken nose

Fairenuff · 18/04/2015 17:26

If you put an 'h' in it won't she have to always say 'Broghan with an h' when people ask for her name? Isn't it easier for her to leave it out?

LayMeDown · 18/04/2015 17:27

I think Brogan must be one of those faux Irish names like Colleen. Outside Ireland people think they are Irish but are hardly ever used here.
I don't know any Brogans boy or girl. However there was two brothers called Brogan who played Gaelic football for Dublin and won the All Ireland in 2011 and 2013. They were two of our best players so I'm willing to bet there are a good few boys age 3/4 and under called Brogan in certain areas of Dublin.

foreverdepressed · 18/04/2015 17:31

I wouldn't normally comment but since you asked...
YABU. Don't like either names at all, seem a bit "chav" for my liking.

shitebag · 18/04/2015 17:32

How about Bronagh?

Similar but a bit nicer sounding.

comingintomyown · 18/04/2015 17:39

Not keen on on it at all

storytopper · 18/04/2015 17:45

I know a girl called Brogan - now aged about 20. I also thought it sounded a bit masculine the first time I heard it, but I got used to it. Her DM called her Broagie as a nickname - I really don't like that.

Sagethyme · 18/04/2015 17:52

It will get shortened OP sorry it just will!! I can imagine to Brogie which sounds far too close to bogey. Sorry i think she may get teased Sad.

It's way too similar to the Irish for shoes. I don't think many Irish people would use this. It has an American fee to me. I can picture Americans who claim to be of Irish descent using it. I'm in Ireland and I've never met a Brogan male or female, although it does sound masculine to me.

I like Bronagh or just Brona . That is a girls name. Brogan though, nope, also as another poster said, it's like the aussie term bogan. Google the name chasers
