to name my little girl this?

I have two boys already and am expecting a little girl in 3 months.

I like the name Brogan as the first name. I have read this is a male Irish name but know a few girls called brogan.

When I tell people the name they do that . Oh that's nice....With a weird smile face.

Do you like Brogan Rose or Brogan Raine? Or am I being silly.

I know a Brogan, and I love the name, possibly I'm biased because she's a terrific kid. If you like it, use it.

ButterflyUpSoHigh · 18/04/2015 09:59

I like it especially with Rose. Not keen on Raine though it reminds me of Princess Diana's Mum.

ImNameyChangey · 18/04/2015 09:59

I think Briar is much nicer.

maliaki · 18/04/2015 10:01

I like Brogan, really don't like Briar and Briar Rose= getting the piss ripped imo.

Would you call them 'Brogan-Rose/Raine' when you speak to them or just Brogan? I think the name's are lovely, but not sure about doubling then when talking as opposed to just a middle name. I think your first choice Brogan Rose is the nicest.

But that's all just my opinion. You need confidence in the name you want and just smile and say thank you at all the doubters.

DinosaursRoar · 18/04/2015 10:01

Well, it's not a pretty name, and does sound a bit masculine.

Re the shortening, in my experience, that doesnt happen until DCs are a bit older, infants usually use the name they are told the DC are. It's when they get higher up primary/secondary school that nicknames and shortenings start, but that could just be round here.

DinosaursRoar · 18/04/2015 10:03

oh and if you have made your mind up, stop mentioning it when you're still pregnant, just announce once the baby has arrived. People tend to be far politer once you've already named the baby, rather than when you are still at decision time.

NewName228 · 18/04/2015 10:09

I like it - have always thought it was a girls name anyway.

I like it with Rose, possibly because DD's best friend is Rose and she's lovely.

Agree with Dinosaur re just announcing it when baby is born.

I got huge amounts of grief (from my Mum of all people) about our choice of boys name when I was pg. We only ever had DD so it wasn't an issue but it still irks me when I think of it now and DD is nearly 11.

ifgrandmahadawilly · 18/04/2015 10:14

Yanbu to like any name, its just a matter of opinion whether a name is nice or not, isn't it? If you like it, use it.

My personal opinion on the name though is that it sounds chavvy and masculine, particularly 'Brogan Raine'. It's like one of those annoying american names like Logan or Kaycee.

PennilynLott · 18/04/2015 10:16

Cool story, Bro.

SoonToBeSix · 18/04/2015 10:17

I know a Brogan she is English and is now 16. I hated the name at the time and I still do it is very harsh sounding.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 18/04/2015 10:17

I think it's horrible, sorry. Harsh, ugly sounding, awful.

StillLostAtTheStation · 18/04/2015 10:18

It's not a pretty name;
it sounds like a surname;
It's too close to Ulster/Scottish word "boggin " which means vile- smelling, offensive.

NickiFury · 18/04/2015 10:18

I like it. I know a Brogan.

NickiFury · 18/04/2015 10:20

She's Canadian if that's any use.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 18/04/2015 10:30

It's not to my taste, I like pretty and sweet girly names, but it's not my baby, so it's your choice. The world wouldnt go around if we all liked the same things would it

ProvisionallyAnxious · 18/04/2015 10:33

I know a female Brogan as well. I like it! If it's what you want and if you think it suits her when you meet her, why not? Smile

Thedragonsinthebedroom · 18/04/2015 10:33

I think Brogan is a lovely name. Is the 'I' pronounced like it is in Rose? What I mean is do they rhyme? That's the only thing that would put me off Rose as a middle name. I think it goes well with Raine.

It does make me think of brogue walking boots.

Wouldn't be my choice. Rose is nice though.

Playthegameout · 18/04/2015 10:50

Kids at school shout Broag at each other sometimes. I gather it is something to do with rap culture where, I'm reliably informed by my year 10 a brogan is a mother f-Er. It might be an idea to find out if it's entering slang in your area. I'm in the NW.

OurGlass · 18/04/2015 10:56

It sounds very stern and harsh imo .. But my opinion really doesn't matter

CaspianSea · 18/04/2015 11:13

Sorry but I think it's awful. It sounds ugly, harsh and not feminine at all. It's a tacky name that makes me think of Amercican prostitutes.

RebeccaCloud9 · 18/04/2015 11:18

Made me think 'bogan' too but maybe that's because I watch far too much neighbours!

ElphabaTheGreen · 18/04/2015 11:20

Another Australian here who just instantly thought 'bogan'. I have attached a photo so you can see what we mean. Hence it's a big NO from me for 'Brogan'. There's plenty of Aussies in the UK who she'll come into contact with and if she ever goes there she'll have to put up with, 'Your name's what, sorry?! Oh...erm...right...'

Here's another one.
