To wonder why there has STILL been no donation?

This has probably been done, I know there was a long running thread about this very subject but I can't find it?
So, several months on I see Dax's parents have still not made the promised donation to Ronald McDonald hospice. On March 2nd they updated the Facebook page to say they works be making the donation 'very soon', but still nothing.
Am I the only one thinking they have no intention of donating any money out of the tens of thousands donated to them? That in fact they intend to keep it all and deny the very charity that provided them with so much support in the early weeks of their Childs life?
In fact, I don't think im the only one judging by the comments on the Facebook page.
I think they're hoping it will blow over and if they keep quiet long enough people will forget.

Can you find out the actual donation through a freedom of information type thing? There must be some way of finding it out.

DisappointedOne · 11/04/2015 19:07

Freedom of information only applies to public organisations. Not charities, not individuals.

yallahabibi · 11/04/2015 19:18

It doesn't even appear they have donated. Is there some local rag near where they live ?
I'm sure they would be interested in announcing the expected donation .

Forgive me for being skeptical, but I just played around with Print-screen and Paint and realised it's quite easy to erase the bottom part of the page, and add text to say "thank you for your donation." I'd post my recreation but am worried about copyright issues because the page is obviously RMHNY's and not mine to mess around with.

I really hope I'm wrong.

ihatelego · 11/04/2015 19:42

1 word - fraudsters.

drbonnieblossman · 11/04/2015 19:44

lego very controlled of you as I can think of another word to describe them!

How do they sleep at night?

TheFairyCaravan · 11/04/2015 19:52

They are absolute scum, that's what they are! Angry

albertcamus · 11/04/2015 19:53

I'm deeply pissed off if RMH lose out here, having had a child on GOSH Oncology Ward who had a bone marrow transplant. Yes it was 1990, but the hospital's then newly-built mothers' accommodation was tiny rooms with 2 sets of bunk beds in each & 1 bathroom to 3 rooms of 4 beds. Parents slept on floors, by bedsides or in the basement with the London rats & there was no accommodation for fathers at all. We were lucky to get a (spotlessly-clean) room with breakfast in a Salvation Army hostel near Russell Square, it was a life-saver. I hope that this has now improved and/or that there is now a RMH or similar available to families going through the nightmare time of having a seriously-ill child at GOSH and elsewhere. I personally donate to the Salvation Army in recognition of the support we had.

This couple have royally taken the piss and should be deeply ashamed, I hate seeing the guff they are C&Ping, especially about children with cancer, it is utterly out of order.

I for one hope this thread manages to achieve something for a genuinely worthy cause.

kinkyfuckery · 11/04/2015 20:06

I too have had access to a suite provided partially by Ronald McDonald Charities, whilst my 5 day old baby was re-admitted with suspected meningitis. I didn't actually end up using the room, except once to grab a quick shower, but knowing it was there made everything much more bearable. These rooms and houses are life-changing for parents and families. The thought that anyone could intentionally rob them of funding is heartbreaking Sad

JoanHickson · 11/04/2015 20:11

Humburglers.

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/04/2015 20:17

This is fraud, surely? Bloody disgusting. People will try anything. Recently I saw a woman post something on a FB page that I follow having set up a "fund me" account (based in US). She said her husband had started a new job and didn't get paid for two months, that she had 4 kids to feed, they had got a new apartment and she couldn't get the utilities hooked up as there was no money. She was actually asking people to donate to basically set up her home. When somebody said "how do we know if any of this is true" she said "I swear on my children's lives I would never scam anybody". You've got to laugh, people were queuing up to donate to this page. I am happy to help anybody out but not on that basis.

ememem84 · 11/04/2015 20:49

Scumbags.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 11/04/2015 21:19

I'm just horrified that they're now pretending to have donated.

GraysAnalogy · 11/04/2015 21:27

I love the veiled comments on that page, can spot the mumsnetters from a mile off Grin

forago · 11/04/2015 21:34

I think a previous poster has hut the nail on the head. OK so they be got some designer clothes, jewellery maybe, perhaps another motorbike for him, not doubt a nice holiday later in the year - by using the birth if their first child to scam people out of their money. But they quite possibly have lost something much more valuable - the future respect of their grown up son. not sure I'd risk it for 20/30k.

Cantbelievethisishappening · 11/04/2015 21:37

I was thinking that Grays
Cant believe they have posted a cropped screen shot of a donation page when it is in fact the page you arrive at BEFORE you make your donation.
They really are a pair of grabby, scumbags.
I really wish the press would pick this story up

drbonnieblossman · 11/04/2015 21:41

Apologies if I've missed a vital post but just why isn't there any media interest? I really would have thought this scam would have been of huge interest.

Or are the papers being bought off with cheesecake?

JoanHickson · 11/04/2015 21:45

Perplexing, they are beloved and those with questions are trolls.

LadySybilLikesSloeGin · 11/04/2015 21:46

I've had a think about this, surely it's down to the Ronald McDonald charity to take this forward? They can check who's donated funds and how much has been donated. If there's anything untoward they can contact the relevant people Police? Does RMH know what's going on?

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 11/04/2015 21:47

"We apologise for the time scale on this transaction RMH New York are processing our donation and we've requested for confirmation as quick as possible. We can assure you it is being processed and will be sorted very soon kind regards Lee Katie Dax."

so no amount shown on the picture they uploaded.... how odd

To wonder why there has STILL been no donation?
Cantbelievethisishappening · 11/04/2015 21:50

Dragon That is the page you go to when you are about to donate. It isn't even a receipt page. That is why they cropped the bottom part off

MissPronounced · 11/04/2015 21:52

If they really had donated a significant (and fair!) sum, they'd have posted real, unobscured proof. We all know that.

Awful.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 11/04/2015 21:52

I work for a charity myself and I don't think they can / will get involved. For example if they say "we were given a donation of £10” it could look ungrateful and put off other donors. Or if they say " they haven't donated" it could send the message that they expect recipients of help to donate which there's no obligation too

I do think they should donate but just from a charity worker point of view I wanted to explain why I doubt the charity will comment.

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 11/04/2015 22:01

I dont think that Ronald McDonald charity can do anything really, unless the funds after the date when it was promised that forward funds would be donated, and they could prove how much it was, .... very difficult

I think its very sad, and wonder how they think they will come out of this unscathed

the only way they could possibly get a repreive on the publics view, is to donate up to £20K, the full amount donated *(or proved to be donated)

and even then, they would still be damned with "well they only did it because of pressure from the public"
