To wonder why there has STILL been no donation?

This has probably been done, I know there was a long running thread about this very subject but I can't find it?
So, several months on I see Dax's parents have still not made the promised donation to Ronald McDonald hospice. On March 2nd they updated the Facebook page to say they works be making the donation 'very soon', but still nothing.
Am I the only one thinking they have no intention of donating any money out of the tens of thousands donated to them? That in fact they intend to keep it all and deny the very charity that provided them with so much support in the early weeks of their Childs life?
In fact, I don't think im the only one judging by the comments on the Facebook page.
I think they're hoping it will blow over and if they keep quiet long enough people will forget.

The position is slightly different here though in that it is a public case (been in the press) and they have now said themselves that they have donated - and the payment is being processed by the charity. I think it would be fair enough to ask the charity to confirm this. In fact, I think it would be of concern to the charity if the donation has not, in fact, been made but the charity's name has been "taken in vain" in this way.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 11/04/2015 22:08

At the charity and charities I've worked at we'd only confirm it publicly if the donor wanted us to e.g. businesses posing with big cheques or individuals that want a local news story etc.
We have had times where people have said they've donated but haven't but we can't really say anything about that easily (and often it's confusion over a similar charity in those cases). Once we had to comment that a rather notorious criminal had their donation refused as we couldn't be associated with them. But I'd say commenting without the donor's consent would be very rare.

Cantbelievethisishappening · 11/04/2015 22:09

Surely they have a duty to do this given that it is not their money but that of numerous people who dipped into their own pockets.

JoanHickson · 11/04/2015 22:09

Richard washed his hands a few weeks ago. He is leaving posts on the page he wouldn't have left before. Could he be resentful and now he is giving them enough rope?

kewtogetin · 11/04/2015 22:20

Couldn't it be as simple as contacting RMHNY and asking whether the parents of dax Johnstone have made their promised donation yet?

Also, in their original FB post of 2 March (on the Dax page), they actually said that RMH NY would post confirmation of the donation on their own page. So that would seem to indicate donor consent in this case.

LadySybilLikesSloeGin · 11/04/2015 22:29

What was the promised donation though? If they haven't said, they can donate a tenner and they have still donated, as promised.

VenetiaFleet · 11/04/2015 22:48

kewt would RMH release that information though?

DisappointedOne · 11/04/2015 22:53

No. The way the money was raised means there's no obligation (legally) whatsoever.

(There's another one starting called Justice for Cerys here.)

fluffymouse · 11/04/2015 23:51

dissapointed what is the justice for cerys?

LadySybilLikesSloeGin · 12/04/2015 00:30

www.itv.com/news/wales/2015-04-10/charity-launch-in-memory-of-woman-killed-in-cannibal-murder/ This?

It looks OK to be honest. It's not a charity for one purpose "It aims to raise £30,000 to help young people with mental health issues."

DisappointedOne · 12/04/2015 00:34

Look again.

www.gofundme.com/Justice-for-Cerys

On here the £30k is for a barrister to help the family shut down the B+B where it happened.

JoanHickson · 12/04/2015 00:38

So much for them keeping their word they would get RMH to confirm. They kept the lot.

ashtrayheart · 12/04/2015 00:41

There's an update, the amount will remain confidential Hmm

DisappointedOne · 12/04/2015 00:42

Absolute bastards

ashtrayheart · 12/04/2015 00:44

Which has now been deleted!

Cantbelievethisishappening · 12/04/2015 00:45

I will lay money on their next move involving the removal of the FB page

passmethewineplease · 12/04/2015 00:45

What a surprise. Hmm

JoanHickson · 12/04/2015 00:57

Always changing the goal posts.

Keen on delete.

This gets murkier.

To wonder why there has STILL been no donation?
Weebirdie · 12/04/2015 05:08

Didnt they at one stage say the charity would make an announcement when the payment had been made?

It was a while back, just a few weeks into this fiasco.

avoiretre · 12/04/2015 05:18

As soon as this story reared it's head it seemed suspect and the couple seemed like people I wouldn't like or trust one iota. I'm ashamed they're from the same county as me. Well done to the OP and all the people commenting who've sussed them.

avoiretre · 12/04/2015 05:24

its*

KenDoddsDadsDog · 12/04/2015 06:56

The FB page will go soon. If they were savvy enough they could have donated the money AND made their own through the media.

LilMissSunshine9 · 12/04/2015 07:29

Disgusting really. I remember there was a post from a friend saying how they could milk it and makes loads of money and when people started questioning that Richard was saying that it was just that persons opinion and not what he or the parents thought but now I just think Yeh sure bet the thought ran through all their heads because low behold they just proven it by refusing to say how much they donated that is if they really have.

Even Richard himself was touting for free help in producing flyers for his gym because he was too busy helping the parents he had no time to look after his gym.

How disgusting that rmh helped them out and they cannot repay that by donating the money raised. That money could go on to help other people who find themselves on similar situations but no they would rather keep the money to pay their bills and the left over will surely be enough to cover any lost income from being off on mat/pat leave.

At least they can no longer milk the media for money because there is no story now the baby is home.

Karma can be a birch and one day it will come back to bite them and much harder too.
