To wonder why there has STILL been no donation?

This has probably been done, I know there was a long running thread about this very subject but I can't find it?
So, several months on I see Dax's parents have still not made the promised donation to Ronald McDonald hospice. On March 2nd they updated the Facebook page to say they works be making the donation 'very soon', but still nothing.
Am I the only one thinking they have no intention of donating any money out of the tens of thousands donated to them? That in fact they intend to keep it all and deny the very charity that provided them with so much support in the early weeks of their Childs life?
In fact, I don't think im the only one judging by the comments on the Facebook page.
I think they're hoping it will blow over and if they keep quiet long enough people will forget.

I just don't get it.

I have read this thread and had a nosy on the FB and Twitter pages, if like he says there are lots of messages saying the parents should 'keep the money' ect then why don't they just come out and say they have spent it, I'm sure if these people are happy for the family to keep the money they will not mind.

Am I missing the point?Confused

DancingDays · 07/04/2015 21:15

I believe the initial donations (around 5k) was donated direct into the mothers paypal, so they would have access to money for taxis to the passport office. I would see that as a justified use of the money.

The coat story seems far fetched, didn't they post photos of sightseeing pre-Dax? I'm sure he had a coat on for that.

trufflesnout · 07/04/2015 21:16

"Saved every message" ... except all the deleted ones asking where the money was, when it would be donated, and how much RMHC could expect...

trufflesnout · 07/04/2015 21:17

I thought Paypal had restrictions on how much your account could receive before it froze transactions and asked you to register as a business account? IIRC it's something near the 2k mark.

youarekiddingme · 07/04/2015 21:24

Been following this as very close to my heart. My premmie relative was 15oz and 17 weeks early Shock

Could someone pm me what was read? (spud?)

LokiBear · 07/04/2015 21:28

I've been lurking for a while. I'm pretty sure that when ever I've taken holiday insurance out you get a breakdown of what pay out you get for medical bills, clothes, transport etc. I think their insurance would have allotted them a set about of cash for food and expenses etc. I understand them needing money for the bills and rent. They do carry on regardless. But, there has been something not quite right all along. It's really sad actually.

shewept · 07/04/2015 21:30

Doesn't make sense.

People offered to take clothes, they said no.

Tricky said he would keep Lees business going, he didn't.

He changing his mind about what they needed the money for.

Why would you go to new York with no coat?

A couple with no financial buffer go to new York, when they have a baby on the way?

They had time to do interviews in papers and on tv, but have personal issues that stop them transferring money?

All the negative comments get deleted, not everyone is positive.

ILoveOnionRings · 07/04/2015 21:31

I followed the story here, the media and on Facebook.

Yes I agree there are 100's of positive message but there were also 100's of messages that asked reasonable questions - these comments seemed to have been deleted by the admin of the FB page and also if I recall correctly, also suffered barrages of abuse from other posters and also by the FB page admin before being deleted. It appeared that A fair representation of the story was not given on the FB page - opposing views were just slapped down and then deleted.

And yes the person who asked for their donation back was 'named and shamed' by the FB admin - I find the tactics of the FB admin of the group, in my opinion, to be unprofessional.

Also the 100's of comments on the end of the media story pages were not that supportive of the fundraising either it seemed at the time. Perhaps the fact the media are not doing a 'happy ever after' story speaks volumes.

Unfortunately it does seem like the Ronald McDonald Charity will not receive a donation as was stipulated by the fundraisers- I would like to be proven wrong.

Many families have a reduction in income once a baby comes along, most of these families cut their cloth accordingly.

MoanCollins · 07/04/2015 21:36

Just grasping at straws here but could Dax potentially have health problems or a disability to do with being preemie which means they're reluctant to hand back the cash but are going to use it to help with that but don't want to make it public for Dax's sake.

I'm really just trying to think of a reasonable explanation because it makes me feel really sad at the state of the world if this really was just a scam.

AyeAmarok · 07/04/2015 21:39

I wondered that Moan but I think that they said on TV that he was fine, but possibly.

DragonWithAGirlTattoo · 07/04/2015 21:39

I take your straw and sink it

If they were going to do that then they would be shouting it from the rooftops as that's a 'nice' thing to? Spending it on fridges and furniture. ... not as nice

magoria · 07/04/2015 21:43

No coat in December in New York...

OKAY so a four day sight-seeing trip with out a coat. I believe that...

Between · 07/04/2015 21:48

I bet he had a coat just not a proper winter coat. It did get very cold I think?

This type of thing detracts from the main issue of the money being raised for non exsistant medical bills and then the non payment of a promised donation to RM house.

kewtogetin · 07/04/2015 21:49

Moan Collins, that would make sense had it not been for the mother staying during a newspaper interview how lucky they were that the only health issue dax had/has is colic......

It's theft.
Leaves a very sour taste Hmm

ASorcererIsAWizardSquared · 07/04/2015 21:52

you know what.

this thread is sick, it really is.

If any of you donated and feel you were scammed, ask for your money back.

If you didnt, then why are you doing this? what does it have to do with you?
Why are you harassing these people?
Why are you so invested in other peoples business and stupidity?

Some people seriously need to get a life. Its like car crash tv.

ChristyMooreRocks · 07/04/2015 21:55

I imagine that they spent a lot of the money on 'stuff' and justified it to themselves each time by saying 'we have been through a hard time, lets treat ourselves' blah blah blah.

I do think though that if people have given them money, then they have to be the ones who complain. And that doesnt appear to be what is happening here.

mathanxiety · 07/04/2015 21:56

It's a problem because there are genuine cases where money is actually needed but people thinking of donating may think twice when they see people pocketing money that they did not need, and that they promised would go to another good cause.

kewtogetin · 07/04/2015 21:56

Sorcerer, the people that have asked for their money back have been abused and threatened by the Facebook page admin. In one women's case the admin threatened to report her to her employer and governing body.
People are so 'bothered' because their is a very deserving charity that should be receiving the cash donated, this money is not for Dax's oarents to spend on themselves, their insurance company covered all their costs.

OP posts:
LokiBear · 07/04/2015 21:57

Nobody is harassing anyone. This thread is no different to having a conversation with people in a coffee shop.

cedricsneer · 07/04/2015 21:57

But why can't we have an emotional investment in seeing a charity that may be very close to some of our hearts being scammed? I don't have to have donated money to care about that.

SoupDragon · 07/04/2015 21:59

this thread is sick

That's not the thing I think is sick.
Sick is taking money under false pretences.
Sick is not donating it as promised.
Sick is making racist and other offensive comments to people who ask questions on the facebook page.

Asking questions about misuse of donated funds...? Not so much.

glasgowlass · 07/04/2015 22:12

This thread is sick

No, what is sick are the people who have the money & have helped raise it whilst acting like arseholes.

spudholes · 07/04/2015 22:17

More from tricky dicky

So do I, and as I stated earlier Im sure they will. But just because you think they have a moral right, it actually does give you any right to call the shots. You didn't donate and those that did are not complaining, so your'e trying to fight a battle thats not even there! If people that donated complained I would personally make sure they got their money back. And do you not what annoys me, non of you know the facts. Katie doesn't even work for me, and never has! She has a full time job that she is getting paid from! She has never been on my books, so that smart arse thinking hes all clever is all wrong! Even the papers said Katie was a fitness instructor! All wrong! She is qualified and helped Lee with classes a few nights a week. He is a self employed trainer and pays me rent to use my business, so why I should be paying her maternity pay is beyond me! As you seem so vocal, please point that out for me lol

And as for his coat, he left it in the taxi by accident in NYC! Jeez do I have to explain every little item

The money was donated to them, not the charity. Those that wanted to donate direct to the charity did so. Only one out of all that donated asked for money back (and wasn't named and shamed)(which your mis in-formed followers state) and she sent a pic of her donation direct which she didn't have to do. Nobody has complained. I'm more bothered about the ones that donated. If you lot turned your energies to a real worthy cause the world would be a better place
