to fear discontinuation of my favourite foods?

It all started with Ramen from Waitrose. It was delicious, DH & I loved it. Then it was discontinued. Then the chili and kidney bean soup (which admittedly sounds foul but did taste divine) - GONE. Tesco, what happened to chewable Rennie?! Then the Thai fishcakes. Tasty dishes, tragically abandoned by the heartless grocers.

The last straw was 2014's horrific re-formulation of M&S's tzatziki. Anyway, I am now living in dread regarding the M&S Hot and Spicy Chicken Noodle Soup. It is oh so good. Medicine in a food carton but in a delicious, whole-tub-to-myself, chilli-tingle way. They're gonna pull it, aren't they?

Sorry, just laughing at a product called Shirgar that mysteriously disappeared one day Grin Grin

WireCat · 13/03/2015 11:04

Glad someone else misses the garlic mushroom pizza from Tesco/sainsburys.

M&S food is very hot & miss nowadays regardless of what they've discontinued. I came out empty handed last week Shock

marshmallowpies · 13/03/2015 11:05

Ooh the M&S egg & prawn roll was lovely. Proper soft bread roll not some nasty fake ciabatta thing. The cheese & celery one, not so much...

AmazingDisgrace · 13/03/2015 11:08

Tesco in New Malden used to stock Mothers Pride Scottish plain bread and then just stopped getting it Angry The staff member I asked said it always sold out as soon as it came in so it was clearly popular. As a Scot living down here I'd just like to say a huge Fuck You a lot Tesco

Coconut Boosts. If I ever find out who was responsible for discontinuing those babies, I will hunt them down and hurt them.

TiltedPenguin · 13/03/2015 11:10

juneau I found goldfish crackers in the 99p store recently - large jars (about 500g I think).

Callaird · 13/03/2015 11:14

Asda do a country life Welsh shirgar butter!

crazykat · 13/03/2015 11:26

Dolmio used to do a chilli, tomato and vodka stir in sauce that was lovely, great for a quick dinner until they stopped making it.

Boots used to have a hoisin duck and noodle salad that I had every day while at college but they don't make it now.

Snow flakes were delicious, either the white flake covered in dairymilk or just the white flake. White maltesers were gorgeous as well.

It's just as bad when they change things like dairymilk/anything Cadburys and taking all the artificial flavours out of smarties so they taste like cardboard now.

It's just

sharkteeth · 13/03/2015 11:27

Lemon vienetta. We used to get a kfc bucket on a Saturday and always get that as a pudding :(

WotNoLoobrush · 13/03/2015 11:28

zukiecat and NuggetofPurestGreen, the Co-op sell nice chocolate rich tea biscuits.

juneau · 13/03/2015 11:32

Ooh thanks TiltedPenguin. We have a £1 shop in town (and next door is a 99p shop Hmm) I'll try them both!

StaircaseAtTheUniversity · 13/03/2015 11:37

There used to be a Tesco finest chicken casserole that was heaven. It had a whole roasted spring onion in it. I loved it. Then one day, poof. I still think about it.

I'm glad I'm not the only one mourning convenience foods of old.

sassymuffin · 13/03/2015 11:39

Another person mourning the demise of the M&S cheese and celery sandwich.

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 13/03/2015 11:43

the main contender is cadburys, just what have they done to the chocolate is awful, tastes waxy. At least its put a stop to my chocolate habit though.

A long time ago, M&S used to do a tuna pasta salad in the lunch bit, I was amazing. those ear shaped pasta pieces with tuna, crunchy green veg and an oil and vinegar dressing. I hate all the mayo based pasta salads.

ThisIsOurBlanket · 13/03/2015 11:47

Blackberry and Apple Alpen. Last seen in about 2004 Sad. Gone but not forgotten.

Tanaqui · 13/03/2015 11:52

Waitrose lemon rasam soup. Loved it, hoping it will come back for the summer.

CadieAgain · 13/03/2015 11:54

Grin at vanishing Shergar.

M&S also gave their Count on Us tuna and sweetcorn pie the chop. A decade ago. I still miss it.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 13/03/2015 12:08

FedUp this is it here. Is different to the old version but looks tasty!

I had forgotten the Cheese and celery sandwich. It was rather good. Perhaps someone from M and S will see this thread and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

Halsall · 13/03/2015 12:34

I live in dread of Salute gluten-free pasta disappearing. Used to get it from Sainsbury's, they stopped, then Waitrose had it; they stopped.

Tracked it down at Tesco but last time I went, it was reduced to about 25% of its full price.....I suspect the prelude to getting rid of it altogether.

On the plus side, I bought all they had, so I now have enough to build an igloo out of packets of pasta Hmm

BikketBikketBikket · 13/03/2015 12:48

Golden Fry Onion Gravy Powder - proper gravy, not the appalling artificial-tasting stuff that is made with gravy granules... Sad

Morrisons sold it for years after it had disappeared everywhere else - I used to ship it south for one DC and north for the other. Then it vanished, and when I wrote to enquire, I was told that Morrisons (damn them for ever) had cancelled their order, so it was 'no longer economical to produce'.
Can't remember the last time I had home-made gravy, as I've tried at least 6 makes - and chucked them all away after the first taste... Angry

jeanmiguelfangio · 13/03/2015 12:48

M&S baked potato flavoured crisps
Used to have them when I was a kid- they were yum

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/03/2015 13:16

M&S Thousand Island Dip in a tub (you can get the Tex Mex 4 dip but I only like the Thousandand Island)

HelpMeGetOutOfHere · 13/03/2015 13:27

just remembered about the mcdonalds donuts. they were ring ones, with cinnamon sugar and a light coating on the top of chocolate. delicious. So disappointed that they stopped selling them. Used to take the dc's to mcd's just so I could buy a donut Blush

ChessieFL · 13/03/2015 13:36

More M&S sandwiches - about 15 years ago they made a tuna melt sandwich with a soft cheesy topping. I still look out in case they bring it back. They also used to do a big roast beef sandwich on onion bread - another one I hope to see again one day.
