to fear discontinuation of my favourite foods?

It all started with Ramen from Waitrose. It was delicious, DH & I loved it. Then it was discontinued. Then the chili and kidney bean soup (which admittedly sounds foul but did taste divine) - GONE. Tesco, what happened to chewable Rennie?! Then the Thai fishcakes. Tasty dishes, tragically abandoned by the heartless grocers.

The last straw was 2014's horrific re-formulation of M&S's tzatziki. Anyway, I am now living in dread regarding the M&S Hot and Spicy Chicken Noodle Soup. It is oh so good. Medicine in a food carton but in a delicious, whole-tub-to-myself, chilli-tingle way. They're gonna pull it, aren't they?

I lived on chewable Rennies during my second pregnancy and was gutted that I couldn't them for my third. They were like shows age Pacers.

I used to love a tiny smoked salmon and dill side salad that Boots, of all places, used to keep in the chiller cabinet. That was about 25 years ago, now I think about it. And in a different city. So yes. I expected a small chilled salad to never change in bloody hell I'm old a quarter of a century. Not unreasonable.

I cook everything I can myself. Cuts downs on the very emotional upheaval you're experiencing now nods wisely

I've tried the from-scratch heartache buffer, but some prepped yumminess always gets through.

M&S used to do a scrummy vegetable flan with cheese sauce, I've tried to recreate but failed

Best stock up on the Russian Herring (Google it, I dare yah )

annoyedofnorwich · 12/03/2015 21:59

Tesco used to do a lovely really thin base rectangular pizza with mascarpone on it... years ago... still think of it wistfully, never found a similar one!

FuckItBucket · 12/03/2015 22:00

Kebab pot noddles just vanished Sad

BooChunky · 12/03/2015 22:01

Tesco used to do cauliflower cheese veggie burgers.... They were amazing.

Never to be seen again Sad

TheBitterBoy · 12/03/2015 22:02

I still mourn the original M&S cheese and celery sandwich. The current version is a very poor substitute.

workhouse · 12/03/2015 22:03

Waitrose fajitas...no one else does them the same Sad

TheBitterBoy · 12/03/2015 22:03

Oh the Cauliflower cheese burgers! I remember them, they were lush.

poisonedbypen · 12/03/2015 22:05

Sainsburys veggie chilli with bulgar wheat - long gone but never forgotten.
Costco frozen prawns coated in garlicky sauce - favourite 5 minute meal with pasta - gone
Costco fish pie - also gone
Cook toffee & chocolate twirly cheesecake :( gone

workhouse · 12/03/2015 22:06

Blimey, the M&S cheese and celery sandwich was good, now you come to mention it.

percythepenguin · 12/03/2015 22:10

M&S chicken lasagne, sounds wrong but it was amazing!

TheBitterBoy · 12/03/2015 22:11

Cauldron veggie sausages were ruined a few years ago too. They used to be the only veggie sausages with a decent flavour and texture that held together in a sausage casserole, but then they 'improved' them, and now they taste of foam.

Annabannbobanna · 12/03/2015 22:11

Waitrose Tennessee toffee milkshake circa early 1990s. It tasted of honeycomb with a slightly burnt aftertaste, it was the most amazing drink ever and I still mourn its demise.

Annabannbobanna · 12/03/2015 22:13

And from around the same time a porridge with tiny freeze dried berries, i can't even remember what it was called but nothing has ever come close.

Judydreamsofhorses · 12/03/2015 22:13

M&S used to do little pitta sized pizzas with feta and veg on them - perfect with salad for a home alone tea. Gone. Also M&S, minted vegetable cake things, like fishcakes, but not. Gone. I am, however, delighted they changed the cottage pie with cheesy mash topping back to the original recipe.

CliveCussler · 12/03/2015 22:14

I still check Tesco shelves for the Raisin Bran Muffin. Last seen in 1988.

Abel and Cole do something similar, but not quite the same.

tinkerbellvspredator · 12/03/2015 22:14

Have you tried remegel instead of rennies?

workhouse · 12/03/2015 22:15

Not food I know, but, Robert Dyas is the only place that still sells proper Vim and Windowlene. I have to send my mother six month parcels of the stuff.

PinkSnowAndStars · 12/03/2015 22:15

There used to be a butter called Shirgar (?) that I loved. Can't find it anymore :(

ClockwiseCat · 12/03/2015 22:17

Sainsbury's mushroom pate. It was just mushrooms so veggie rather than animal and mushroom and it was bloody lovely with hunks of warm baguette dipped into it

meglet · 12/03/2015 22:17

M&S used to stock goats cheese in caramelised onion balsamic vinegar dressing. I still look forlornly at the cheese shelf and hope to see it reappear.

ezridelmastro · 12/03/2015 22:17

Marmite mini cheddars - gone but never forgotten.

chickydoo · 12/03/2015 22:18

BitterBoy
I loved the M&S cheese & celery. A match made in sandwich heaven. I want one NOW!

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 12/03/2015 22:19

Cheese and celery Dairylea triangles.

Skinny Cow Mint Choc ice creams - they were great, now new formulation is like licking a synthetic wet pillow.
