to fear discontinuation of my favourite foods?

It all started with Ramen from Waitrose. It was delicious, DH & I loved it. Then it was discontinued. Then the chili and kidney bean soup (which admittedly sounds foul but did taste divine) - GONE. Tesco, what happened to chewable Rennie?! Then the Thai fishcakes. Tasty dishes, tragically abandoned by the heartless grocers.

The last straw was 2014's horrific re-formulation of M&S's tzatziki. Anyway, I am now living in dread regarding the M&S Hot and Spicy Chicken Noodle Soup. It is oh so good. Medicine in a food carton but in a delicious, whole-tub-to-myself, chilli-tingle way. They're gonna pull it, aren't they?

Asda used to have garlic king prawns as part of their frozen bbq range, delist with jasmine rice for a quick tea, but they've not done them the past 2 summers.

Bbq beef wotsits

Kfc gravy isn't the same anymore and they should definitely bring back biscuits, which you can still get in American kfcs and are warm and buttery and yummy

Saddest of all is the loss of marinated salmon and dill from yo sushi, four years on it still makes me Angry

ChessieFL · 13/03/2015 13:38

And waitrose used to do a delicious banana muffin with passion fruit buttercream filling - no more.

Allalonenow · 13/03/2015 13:47

And the worst thing is that when you ask if something is still stocked, the inevitable reply is, "We are always being asked for that, but it's been discontinued" Confused

WorriedUser · 13/03/2015 14:20

"M&S baked potato flavoured crisps
Used to have them when I was a kid- they were yum."

jeanmiguel. You can get baked potato and butter crisps in M&S still, low fat / reduced fat range.

Provencalroseparadox · 13/03/2015 14:39

M&S used to do a creamy ham pasta salad which I loved but they discontinued it.

I struggle to get Floral Gums anywhere these days. They are a real treat when I find them.

But has anyone noticed that Fish & Chips biscuits are back!

Quangle · 13/03/2015 14:48

Not quite the same thing but there was a Cote D'or chocolate bar with truffle filling which was gorgeous but it has been swept aside in all supermarkets by the relentless march of the 50000 varieties of Lindt and the 7000000000000 varieties of Green & Blacks. So hard to find Cote D'or these days

Lucymill · 13/03/2015 15:04

Stackers crisps disappeared when Pringles arrived. Used to love them.
Also sainsburys used to do a pizza with pear and Gorgonzola on it, it was the most amazing pizzaSad

Vastra · 13/03/2015 15:08

I miss the M&S cheese and celery sandwich too, it never occurred to me that anyone else would notice or care! Also their cheese and apple sandwich. That one disappeared about 18 years ago and I'm still a bit annoyed about it.

Provencalroseparadox · 13/03/2015 15:14

Sort of gutted never to have tried the chees & celery sandwich now.

rumgy · 13/03/2015 15:18

Worcester sauce twiglets. I just can't seem to get over it.

Foxtailsoup · 13/03/2015 15:22

M&S used to do a veggie asparagus lasagne ready meal. Gorgeous. Had that for tea every day for a year when I was young and lazy. Dear M&S, if you're bringing back the cheese and celery sandwich (what a shocker, I didn't even know that had gone!), can I have this as well please.

Foxtailsoup · 13/03/2015 15:25

And risotto...in a tin! Please tell me I didn't dream this. Would have been early '80s. Yellow label, Plumrose brand I think. I absolutely loved it.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 13/03/2015 15:28

YANBU.

There was a completely unremarkable brand of cottage cheese at my corner shop about ten years ago, I basically lived on it while pregnant. I bought at least 10 containers a week. Then, it was gone.

I later settled on the Co-Op brand, and again, it's disappeared.

peekaboo1 · 13/03/2015 15:29

The waitrose cheese and celery sandwich is not worth bothering with. The bread is wrong, normally gone soggy by the time you buy it as the proportions of cheeses and celery are just not correct. M&S please bring it back I don't want brie and grape or Wensleydale and poncey fruit chutney. Just cheese and celery. Plain and simple.

vivideye · 13/03/2015 15:43

When I was little my dad had this amazing Tesco (or maybe Sainsburys) own brand chocolate spread. It was slightly viscous and I can still taste it........delicious. it had a little brown bear on the lid. Anyone remember? I have never found an equivalent.

FedUpWeight · 13/03/2015 15:51

Thanks Nugget, may have to give it a try! Not sure how I feel about the filling...
HelpMeGetOutOfHere they were soooo good. Other chocolate ring donuts just don't taste the same Sad
I was also a big fan of sara lee, my mum often got them for Sunday puddings. I don't think they are sold in the UK anymore, only US and Aus (damn them)
M&S used to do yellow fizzy fish that were so sour it made your eyes water. I loved them...

Blueberrycreampie · 13/03/2015 15:57

I know it's not the same but Waitrose do a pear and Gorgonzola tart which looks homemade and scrummy. Mmm love these together!

KiteKit · 13/03/2015 16:16

M&S used to do a foil vacuum packed 'brunch', it looked utterly vile when you plopped it it into the pan as it was basically chopped bacon, potatoes and eggs and you cooked it till it was all crispy. It lasted AGES in the cupboard, didn't even need a fridge! It was my sunday morning hangover cure for years when I was a student. I still miss it. Can't remember what it was called though.

I didn't know the M&S pasta pesto salad was gone, the one with the pasta bows? I am sure I saw it recently.

There are lots of things from M&S that have been discontinued that I love.

Aldi is pretty unreliable too for suddenly whipping stuff off the shelf and not replacing it.

GoooRooo · 13/03/2015 16:18

Malted granary bread. All the rage in Sainsbury's in the 80s/90s. Now rarer than hen's teeth.

florascotia · 13/03/2015 16:19

Goodbye Are you within reach of a Lidl? I really like their cottage cheese. Much nicer than Co-op or Sainsbury's or Morrisons, IMHO . Comes in smallish tubs, very handy.

Isetan · 13/03/2015 16:20

I loved Milkyway's as a kid and then they 'improved' the recipe and now they're horrible. Every time I see them, I'm reminded of the senseless cruelty of having my favourite choc and link to my childhood, ripped from me Confused Hmm Angry. Oh and while I'm at it, didn't the orange choc in Quality Street used to be a soft centre? i remember promising my little sister all sorts, just so she would give up the orange and strawberry soft centres in Quality Street.

Rae25 · 13/03/2015 16:21

Mushroom and wine pasta n sauce was the best thing and always the flavour that was sold out I'm still confused as to why they took it away from me

Also saucy spuds

Ps I do eat real food
Sometimes Blush

marshmallowpies · 13/03/2015 17:49

The M&S pasta pesto salad was a favourite of mine - but Sainos do do a similar one, I had it for dinner on Sunday!

MumoftheBoyandtheGirl · 13/03/2015 17:55

Sainsburys maple bacon sausages :( they switched them out for lamb and mint Confused Those sausages were so popular Sad

BoatsAgainstTheCurrent · 13/03/2015 17:58

There's also a really nice Tesco Finest spinach, pesto and pine nut pasta salad with farfalle
