to fear discontinuation of my favourite foods?

It all started with Ramen from Waitrose. It was delicious, DH & I loved it. Then it was discontinued. Then the chili and kidney bean soup (which admittedly sounds foul but did taste divine) - GONE. Tesco, what happened to chewable Rennie?! Then the Thai fishcakes. Tasty dishes, tragically abandoned by the heartless grocers.

The last straw was 2014's horrific re-formulation of M&S's tzatziki. Anyway, I am now living in dread regarding the M&S Hot and Spicy Chicken Noodle Soup. It is oh so good. Medicine in a food carton but in a delicious, whole-tub-to-myself, chilli-tingle way. They're gonna pull it, aren't they?

When you say chewable Rennies do you mean chewable like the texture of, for example, wine gums etc? Or the texture of Refresher sweets/Parma Violets (hard and crunchy and when chewed they crumble into a sort of powder) they do orange or mint flavour ones of the hard crunchy ones, I recently bought a box, it's sat in my drawer right next to me! I bought them in Tesco.

I still mourn the loss of Mars Delight bars and Pot Rices :( also Wotsits Cheesy Waffles. I've never had a cheesier snack!

TheCunnyFunt · 12/03/2015 23:37

My Tesco, the utter bastards got rid of the Krispy Kreme cabinet :( a couple of weeks after it went, our clubcard vouchers arrived. One of the coupons was for £1 off any 3 pack of Krispy Kremes :(

Utter utter bastards

FunkyZebraHat · 12/03/2015 23:52

As a uni student I drank a lot of metz, silver WKD and fat sams cheapy ready mix cocktails. I was looking for metz or silver WKD to reminisce the other day and... gone

Turquoisetortoise · 13/03/2015 00:04

I miss secret bars too, they were amazing. I regularly try to explain them to dp and he tells me I am making it up! So glad I'm not the only one.

RandomNPC · 13/03/2015 00:16

Lemon Viennetta, Romantica, Oven Crunchies; all gone, all gone Sad

zukiecat · 13/03/2015 00:22

McVities Chocolate RichTea, how I used to love them!

Also Iceland used to do a delicious Red Wine Cooking Sauce, it was discontinued a few years ago, but it was the nicest sauce I have ever had for beef in the slow cooker. Never found any to match that one.

VeganCow · 13/03/2015 00:45

Sainsburys tinned spag Bol is still available, so is the cauli cheese crispbakes from tesco and sainsburys, also Iceland do them.

NuggetofPurestGreen · 13/03/2015 00:57

You can still get chocolate rich tea can't you??!

Also McDonalds have a new version of the chocolate donut - haven't tried it but it looks good.

^har

The cadburys snow flake Sad

marshmallowpies · 13/03/2015 03:19

Lack of veggie stuff at M&S is a crime! There's a lovely new Asian fusion type ready meal range (with Thai green curry and the like)...not a single veggie option in the entire range!

Can't think of anything I particularly like that's been discontinued though, except perhaps the Walnut Whip selection which was 1 walnut whip, 1 pecan and 1 coffee - the coffee one has become chocolate, very inferior.

I live in fear of the Waitrose Caramel Surprise ever disappearing...

Eminybob · 13/03/2015 03:26

I don't have anything to add (I'm sure something will come to me later) but I have been getting progressively more and more hungry whist reading this thread. Everything sounds so delicious. Even if I could be arsed to go downstairs and get something to eat, I have nothing nearly as exciting in as what I'm fantasising about.

figginz · 13/03/2015 04:07

Lindt dark chocolate with pear in. The bastards discontinued with no notice or I would have stockpiled heavily. Can't stand the one with orange in. It's been years but am still smarting.

Oh, and Lipton ice tea. Why why why did they have to change the recipe? Angry

Hippee · 13/03/2015 04:14

Boots red salmon and egg sandwich.
Morrisons toffee apple pudding.
Sweetcorn relish flavoured Skips.
Quite a few Pret-a-Manger sandwiches.
I thought it was only me that put a death wish on my favourite products.

iamEarthymama · 13/03/2015 04:29

I was stood disconsolately in front of the Free From section in Tesco thinking the very same thing.
When I first started buying GF products they sold their own brand Scotch Pancakes.
Ideal for a quick breakfast as the texture didn't either suck all the moisture from your mouth or crumble into a 1000 pieces when you ate it.
They were like gold dust, really popular, and I used to always have some in the freezer
So they discontinued them!
I too always look just in case they have miraculously reappeared.
I am going to email Tesco to ask WHY?
I agree about Cauldron sausages; we used to eat loads, now we have haloumi on cooked breakfast but it just would not be right woth onion gravy and mash! ??

LongDistanceLove · 13/03/2015 05:44

Sarah Lee chocolate gateaux, I haven't seen those in years! Sad

Springcleanish · 13/03/2015 05:57

Tesco Cauliflower cheese grills been reformed as burgers here, now thicker, round and not as tasty.

Yes, to a return of and celery sarnies, they were lovely.

I can remember my Gran buying me an M and S veggie Cumberland pie, it was gorgeous. I look every time I'm in there but not see it for years.

DontDrinkandFacebook · 13/03/2015 06:03

The world truly went to hell in a handcart the day Kraft starting fucking with the formula for Cadbury's chocolate. Sad

BestZebbie · 13/03/2015 07:01

Smokey snaps - changed to being Baco-s and then vanished forever. Smokey snaps (fake vegetarian 'bacon' bits intended to sprinkle on salads) were a staple of several favourite recipes of mine. There are a few other versions (like the ones in the Pizza Hut salad bar), but none are anything like as good.

HappenstanceMarmite · 13/03/2015 07:05

M&S Toffee Pecan Brûlée cheesecake. Holy grail of perfect pudding. Gone! Angry

thetimeisnow · 13/03/2015 07:17

Agree about Cadbury, miss the flavour so much.
Cheese hoola hoops were lovely.
Veggie cheese crowns.
Dr Otakar red onion pizza.

ineedausername · 13/03/2015 07:17

Worcester sauce twiglets.
I loved these. Would eat them everyday.
Then they disappeared. Then came back 5 years ago for Christmas. Then disappeared again. Then Jacobs started printing on the back of regular twiglets that Worcester sauce was coming back for Christmas, last year and the year before. But did they? No. And I was on a forum about it and no one ever found them. Utter bastards.

FedUpWeight · 13/03/2015 07:37

Nugget are you kidding? What's it like? The old ones reminded me of donuts we got at school sometimes sigh

adsy · 13/03/2015 07:49

Nowhere seems to sell toast toppers anymore. gutted

CoodleMoodle · 13/03/2015 08:06

Tesco used to do BBQ bacon steaks in the summer. They were perfection. I used to get DM to buy loads to keep in the freezer as you could only get them seasonally. I think they've brought back similar ones but they're just not right...

DustingOffTheDynastySuit · 13/03/2015 08:14

Jamie Oliver fish fingers, have they been stopped? I can never get them anymore
