to fear discontinuation of my favourite foods?

It all started with Ramen from Waitrose. It was delicious, DH & I loved it. Then it was discontinued. Then the chili and kidney bean soup (which admittedly sounds foul but did taste divine) - GONE. Tesco, what happened to chewable Rennie?! Then the Thai fishcakes. Tasty dishes, tragically abandoned by the heartless grocers.

The last straw was 2014's horrific re-formulation of M&S's tzatziki. Anyway, I am now living in dread regarding the M&S Hot and Spicy Chicken Noodle Soup. It is oh so good. Medicine in a food carton but in a delicious, whole-tub-to-myself, chilli-tingle way. They're gonna pull it, aren't they?

ShockShockShock emergency coffee whip run to M&S required!!!!

BreconBeBuggered · 16/03/2015 11:47

Went to my local Sainsburys store to pick up my weekly consignment of Lurpak garlic butter. Gone! In deep distress, I grabbed a store assistant who paged someone from the Fresh department to tell me they'd stopped stocking it. Disaster! To get me out of the shop without collapsing into a sobbing heap they told me to ring the customer care line, which I did. Apparently if there's enough demand for discontinued items, they will bring them back. (Or possibly eat them all themselves, cackling evilly

Might be worth a try.

Nabootique · 16/03/2015 11:59

Has anyone mentioned those frozen chocolate puddings? Lovelies, they were called. Sigh.

HappenstanceMarmite · 16/03/2015 12:00

Birdseye Chocolate Lovey. To die for.

HappenstanceMarmite · 16/03/2015 12:01

*Lovely

Nabootique · 16/03/2015 12:04

I used to get in such a piss if my grandmother had forgotten to take them out of the freezer in time for after Sunday lunch was horrible, bratty 5 year old

BeCool · 16/03/2015 12:07

Just learn to cook stuff you like - then you can make it forever.

I am perturbed I did not notice the M&S Tzatziki reformulation (eats it twice a week)

HOWEVER, I do think there should be a UK wide database for consumers to lodge their interest in favourite cosmetics and bras. You would then get a 6 month window of notice should any item be in line for discontinuation, and could stock up well in advance.

FelixFelix · 16/03/2015 12:17

Brecon if they discontinue Lurpack garlic butter I will genuinely cry.

Germgirl · 16/03/2015 12:56

They can't discontinue the Lurpak Garlic butter!! I use that all the time.
Someone else mentioned up thread the sainsburys vegetable chilli with bulgar wheat. I used to love that. Had it at least twice a week for years and then one day, it just waant there anymore. Such a shame, it was really lovely.
Also Birds Eye used to make chilli beef burgers, they had kidney be as in & were so nice. They vanished too.
I hate celery but I used to like the M&S cheese & celery sandwiches. Maybe we should all contact m&s and ask for it to be reinstated.

BreconBeBuggered · 16/03/2015 13:12

I got the impression the garlic butter was still available, but that Sainsburys had decided not to stock it. Other stockists are no use to me where I live, though

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/03/2015 14:04

I buy Lurpak Garlic Butter all the time for my mum (mashed potato fiend) - TESCO sells it.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 16/03/2015 14:07

I remember the BE chilli beef burgers, Germgirl, they were nice.

I'm going to have a bash at making cheese and celery sandwiches for tomorrow... eek!

dreamygirl · 16/03/2015 14:16

Baddz Thank you! I can tell my sister now & we can both stop thinking about it!

Marshmallow, maybe you were a school friend of mine! - I had plenty of friends who "would never have had that at home"! We were that kind of household, lived out of our freezer - I don't think my mother enjoyed cooking so she did it as little as possible. My daughterly rebellion is that I cook and bake almost everything but I'd love to get my hands on some super whip again!

Jemifer · 16/03/2015 16:48

I will never get over the loss of salt and vinegar wheat crunchies...

Dumbledoresgirl · 16/03/2015 16:55

Gypsy Cream biscuits.

NatNad · 16/03/2015 17:04

I remember theM&S Tuna melt cheese topped sarnie which another poster mentioned. Also the Sara Lee american type desserts, used to love the apple cinnamon iced cake.

Floppityflop · 16/03/2015 20:26

Oh yes (about halfway through thread), what I'd give for a box of Terry's Neapolitans!

gaggiagirl · 16/03/2015 20:55

jem the salt and vinegar wheat crunchies were so harsh weren't they? Oof they would burn your insides. LUSH!

rocket74 · 16/03/2015 21:03

I miss the asda peanut satay stir fry sauce you could get from their 3 for 3pounds stir fry deal from the chilled section. Had it every week for months then it just disappeared now it's just all the sweet sticky sugar sauces I don't like. I even wrote to asda I was so upset!
They have also recently stopped their mixed berry chilled fruit smoothie - my sons absolute favourite. Not keen on their others.

Coop have stopped their lunch snack pot that was pasta orrieche shapes in tomato and veg sauce. Great with a meal deal and low calorie.

DandyDan · 16/03/2015 21:33

Fried Onion flavour Wheat Crunchies, last seen in the early 90's.

BallsToThat · 16/03/2015 21:45

Skim read thread so sorry if I'm repeating but...I'm sure Sainsburys does those cauliflower cheese grill thingies.

Sainsburys breakfast yoghurts ...lovely things, sort of vanilla-and-cinnamon-ish yoghurt with raisins and crunchy granola bits.

Sainsburys salmon and dill filled pasta. I lived on that when pregnant. I still walk down the fresh pasta aisle sometimes just to see if they have stopped this utter madness and reinstated them Sad.

Waitrose honey and sunflower seed loaf. It just disappeared one day, and the lady in the bakery looked at me like I was mad when I enquired. Did I imagine it?

Opopanax · 16/03/2015 21:46

Ready salted Chipsticks.

QueenofallIsee · 16/03/2015 21:54

Asda raspberry creme brulee cheesecake. It was utterly amazing. Walkers CHEESE snaps, none of the tomato flavour shit, the cheese ones were heaven and I miss them still.

A snack food I adored DP thinks I made up, wish I could remember what they were called. They were a crisp/cracker hybrid, hexagon type shape and came in Canadian Ham flavour. So delicious

NaiceVillageOfTheDammed · 16/03/2015 22:13

There's something so wrong about a product called 'Bird's Eye Fish Balls'.

In all it's greasy glory Grin

Thank you Coco

RandomNPC · 16/03/2015 22:15

For those lusting after lost snacks, try using obscure garages and off licenses. You can get Discos, Salt and Vinegar Twirls and other stuff that way.
