to fear discontinuation of my favourite foods?

It all started with Ramen from Waitrose. It was delicious, DH & I loved it. Then it was discontinued. Then the chili and kidney bean soup (which admittedly sounds foul but did taste divine) - GONE. Tesco, what happened to chewable Rennie?! Then the Thai fishcakes. Tasty dishes, tragically abandoned by the heartless grocers.

The last straw was 2014's horrific re-formulation of M&S's tzatziki. Anyway, I am now living in dread regarding the M&S Hot and Spicy Chicken Noodle Soup. It is oh so good. Medicine in a food carton but in a delicious, whole-tub-to-myself, chilli-tingle way. They're gonna pull it, aren't they?

I think jaffa cakes used to be bigger.

In fact l am sure of it!

Yes, l agree about the wagon wheels too.
They really have shrunk.

Justusemyname · 14/03/2015 21:10

KateKit- you can get a brunch you type thing from sainsburys and waitrose.

I miss Pacers and the fruit and yogurt dessert from M&S. I tried it a few years ago but it wasn't as creamy so not as nice.

fuckweasel · 14/03/2015 21:34

Sainsbury's peanut butter with yeast extract. About 20 years ago, was only around very briefly.

Goodmum1234 · 14/03/2015 21:48

A few things come to mind and if anyone sees them please let me know:
Dale steaks lamb burgers- not minted. Gorgeous in pitta with salad
Birdseye (I think) chicken and broccoli encroute. Bloody gorgeous as a student.cannot find ??
Bacon football crisps
Pyramint
Lemon and scampi crisps- really strong flavour bril they messed with the recipe
Will think of more...

Goodmum1234 · 14/03/2015 21:51

Burdalls gravy salt to make the best gravy...gone ??

IsabellaofFrance · 14/03/2015 22:03

Red Sky bacon and cream cheese crisps. The best snack ever. Gone.

Also, Dolmio used to do a frozen spinach and ricotta cannelloni. The nicest thing ever! Stopped doing it about 1998 :(

francesdrake · 14/03/2015 22:07

Pret used to do a feta and tomato sandwich on sun-dried tomato bread - it was quite a small square, but with thick slices of feta that stuck to the roof of your mouth in a deliciously claggy way. I miss it. A lot.

Ketchuphidestheburntbits · 14/03/2015 22:33

YY to m&s cheese and celery sandwiches and marmite mini chedders.

M&s used to make a bar of Swiss milk chocolate that had a soft creamy filling - does anyone else remember it?

CallieG · 15/03/2015 11:41

Let me start by saying that 95 % of what my family has always eaten has been prepared from scratch by me, BUT
Kraft Macaroni cheese in the blue box. Of course I can make my own, with three cheeses, but that 's not the point, the one in the box takes 15 minutes not 50 & they screwed with the recipe, now it tastes like cream cheese spread mixed with skim milk and it looks like it has been bleached it is quite frankly Revolting! My kids loved it so did I. Not any more they ruined it.

Trident Bowl noodles, now most instant or 2 minute noodles are bland and disgusting, I won't eat them, but Trident had a spicy Oriental one, and it was delicious, just the right ratio of chili to other flavours, great for tea on Sunday night when you just can't be fucked cooking.
The closest thing now is a Shim Ram Yung Korean one but it's just not the same.
Arnott's Golden Puff biscuits, a round light, Buttery puff pastry biscuit similar to but much nicer than a crossaint, lovey with Butter, Jam & cream or cream cheese spread, anything you like. gone forever. Sad

Buxtonstill · 15/03/2015 11:46

M and S onion Ring loaf. They also used to sell it in a London restaurant called Big Uns Ribs. Basically a load of cooked onion rings crammed in a loaf tin and baked again, but it was lush!

Lolamon · 15/03/2015 11:49

Mc Cain microwave wedges with curry sauce :( I miss them so much

Asda used to do this mayonaisy pasta salad thing which was the best. They changed it to whole weat pasta then it disappeared forever!

NuggetofPurestGreen · 15/03/2015 12:24

Now I want an M&S cheese and celery sandwich and I've never even had one!!!

NaiceVillageOfTheDammed · 15/03/2015 13:11

Pret - yoghurt with bits of choc brownie. Sweet sweet brownie with tangy yoghurt.

I'm like this with shops. Find nice shop. Shop in nice shop. Shop closes down.

dreamygirl · 15/03/2015 13:11

Not a recent item, but I thought this might be a good thread to ask if anyone remembers a product from the 80s which was cream (ie for serving with pie/hot puddings) but frozen, it came in a tub like ice cream except the tub was round. My sister and I have distinct memories of this, although not of the name, but nobody else seems to remember.

goodasitgets · 15/03/2015 13:15

Pirate something smoothies - sold in farmfoods. They were individual frozen bags, you tipped in a blender with whatever liquid and made a lovely smoothie. Dirt cheap too

Horlicks tablets

IHavemyownLighthouseyouknow · 15/03/2015 13:29

M&S used to do a yummy crab sandwich - that went years ago. That used to be my once a month pay day treat. And a really nice roast beef & veg in a yorkshire pudding, perfect for a Sunday lunch for one, that's gone too as far as I can see.

DH is mourning his Sainsbury's basics shampoo & conditioner that have been discontinued. He can still find the conditioner in some local stores but the shampoo has totally sold out. He's now going to have nasty dandruffy hair again & I will have to LTB. Thank you Sainsburys.

TartanTrousers · 15/03/2015 13:34

It was mentioned on a nostalgia thread recently but Golden Fishies, used to love them as a kid but they disappeared somewhere in the 90's - I've tried all breaded fish variants but nothing compares.

I don't eat at Frankie & Benny's anymore after a few too many bad meals but they used to do an amazing starter, lots of lovely gooey cheeses baked with bread to dip...delish!

Sara Lee's chocolate gateu, ice-creamy and lovely...yum yum.

And finally, Baxter's red pepper and tomato soup...it seems to have been replaced by lobster bisque...wtf?

BabyDerek · 15/03/2015 14:17

Buzz bars - they were nougat covered in chocolate and you could get them in Superdrug, in a bright pink wrapper. They were delicious!

Frazzledmum12 · 15/03/2015 15:08

A recent one is quorn lamb strips. They were so good for a home made kebab.

There used to be a brand of alcopop that did a kiwi flavoured one and a cheery flavoured one. They were so good. It must have been about 10 years ago.

When Starbucks changed their sandwiches about a year ago I was gutted. My dd and I used to go every week for their chicken salad sandwich that had herby Mayo.

Frazzledmum12 · 15/03/2015 15:08

Cherry not cheery!

annielouise · 15/03/2015 15:19

Lidl used to do a seafood pizza in the frozen section - 2 in a pack for £3. I'm sure they discontinued it as they made a loss on it - it had smoked salmon, mussels, big prawns with creamy cheese on top and I think spinach as well. I still look for it once in a while. Well worth the money.

Cocolepew · 15/03/2015 15:33

Raspberry Ruffles, Vim and Windolene are all sold in Home Bargains. Sara Lee cakes are in Asda.
DH used to like Frutinis. They were a yoghurt pot sized container with mousse and cream on top (or something Confused)
He last had one about 10 years ago but still regularly asked me if I have found them again.

monkey9237 · 15/03/2015 15:34

" M&S (again) used do a chicken dish which was a raw chicken breast which you cooked and added a packet of tangy, creamy tomato sauce. It was heaven and DH won my heart when he served it to me in the early days of our courtship!"

Ooh yes, this was my favourite meal, I think it was called Chicken 'Cafe Royale' or Chicken 'Cordon Rouge' or something and I thought it was very glamorous (I was about 8). And yes of course the cheese and celery sandwich. And in that same sandwich section, M&S used to do a 'sweet' sandwich of chocolate chip bread with sliced strawberry and cream filling.

BikeRunSki · 15/03/2015 15:36

Who mentioned those rectangular Tesco pizzas? They were awesome. But seen since about 1999. I liked the spinach and mascarpone ones.

francesdrake · 15/03/2015 15:37

Kraft have a lot to answer for when it comes to destroying the Much-Loved Foodstuffs of the United Kingdom. Sad
