He likes it savoury, with beans and maybe a bit of bacon.

Now OK I will allow that bacon goes with everything but I like mine like the americans have it, with a sprinkle of cinnamon, maple syrup and a dash of cream.

Also I am cooking it so it comes how I serve it!

I am right and he is wrong, right? Grin

Savoury by itself

Tobyjugg · 01/03/2015 21:28

with a sprinkle of cinnamon, maple syrup and a dash of cream

That is just vile. Eggy bread is savoury.

(Cinnamon is Satan's spice - hate it in anything.)

DamselNotInHerDress · 01/03/2015 21:31

Both ways. Well no bacon/syrup combo, but savoury maybe with ketchup but lots of seasoning.
And then sweet for pudding, bit of vanilla extract and cinnamon and sugar in with the eggs, and a sprinkle of vanilla sugar at the end.

Any yy to mozzarella en carozza - absolutely marvellous creation!

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 01/03/2015 21:32

Stella, I actually have bread, eggs, mozzarella and prosciutto, in my very fridge. Thanks for that little tip, I nearly just bored myself with toast.

StellaAlpina · 01/03/2015 21:40

Yay :) I love toast based meals.

EBearhug · 01/03/2015 21:44

Tobyjugg is very correct with this statement: Cinnamon is Satan's spice

Having said that, Eggy Bread is savoury (I usually do it with chopped herbs mixed in the egg mix before soaking the bread in it. French Toast is sweet, and traditionally, it should have cinnamon, but what with cinnamon being the spice of the devil and all, it is only edible with that bit missed out.

I now want some Eggy Bread, despite still being totally stuffed from dinner. Also, I am out of eggs due to a shopping miscalculation, so I can't give into the craving in any case.

ChrisMooseAlbanians · 01/03/2015 21:48

eggy bread must be eaten with marmite. Or marmalade Grin

captainfarrell · 01/03/2015 21:53

I like it savoury with salt and ketchup but DCs like golden syrup, yoghurt, blueberries etc

FromSeaToShining · 01/03/2015 21:56

You are right (except for the cream), he is wrong. French toast is meant to be sweet, served with butter and Vermont maple syrup (Canadian syrup just isn't the same). Side order of bacon if you are so inclined. Yum.

I cannot bring myself to call it eggy bread. And adding beans? An abomination, I say.

Almostfifty · 01/03/2015 21:56

I like it savoury and sweet, depending on my mood.

myotherusernameisbetter · 01/03/2015 21:58

My OH has it sweet and has taught the boys the same - they all sit with a bowl of sugar that they sprinkle on it - I have mine with salt, pepper and hp sauce - everybody's happy :)

zipzap · 01/03/2015 21:58

Best with bacon and maple syrup together but no cinnamon or cream.

EveDallas · 01/03/2015 21:58

Savoury, and as part of a big fat full English fry-up with lashings of tomato ketchup Smile

missusdaly · 01/03/2015 22:03

French toast with a thin slice of ham

DH likes it with a bit of sausage.
Shock

LoveVintage · 01/03/2015 22:04

Savoury with tom sauce and salt. That's tomorrows tea sorted yum.

I make sweet with fruit loaf and cinnamon.

myotherusernameisbetter · 01/03/2015 22:05

we used to have fried bread with a fry up - literally slices of bread dropped into the fat from the bacon/sausages and eaten - heart attack city.

slightlyglitterstained · 01/03/2015 22:05

I cook eggy bread in the same way as IgnoreMe and Fenella - just eggs, and bread. Fry both sides, sorted.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 01/03/2015 22:06

Dratted child is too excited to sleep (book week signals birthday week!), but I'm FAR too excited to be patient warm cuddly mummy soothing object.... I want to get up and run to the kitchen...

Do I have eggs?????? How long can I force myself to wait????

ThursdayLast · 01/03/2015 22:09

Eggy bread with bacon, maple syrup and ketchup.

The end.

80sMum · 01/03/2015 22:13

I've never thought of making it into something savoury! Why didn't I think f that? It sounds rather nice. I've only ever had the cinnamon, butter, sweet, syrupy American French Toast version.

JollyFrog · 01/03/2015 22:17

Make a jam sandwich, coat in beaten egg and fry. Sprinkle with caster sugar, then.....
enjoy the best eggy bread ever Grin

startrek90 · 01/03/2015 22:26

DHAKA and I agree. Must be sweet with cinnamon and golden syrup.

Those posters talking about marmite....you are just wrong. Marmite is the devils food.

firesidechat · 01/03/2015 22:31

To be fair isn't eggy bread with bacon very American? They have a sweet tooth and I'm pretty sure that eggy bread, cinnamon, maple syrup and bacon could be a thing over there.

firesidechat · 01/03/2015 22:33

I fact I remember the Barefoot Contessa did a breakfast with eggy bread, maple syrup and sausages. To British eyes it was all a bit strange.
