He likes it savoury, with beans and maybe a bit of bacon.

Now OK I will allow that bacon goes with everything but I like mine like the americans have it, with a sprinkle of cinnamon, maple syrup and a dash of cream.

Also I am cooking it so it comes how I serve it!

I am right and he is wrong, right? Grin

We always had it with sugar and a squirt of jif lemon juice as kids.

I actually couldn't believe it at guide camp when some of my pals put ketchup on theirs! Shock

EstRusMum · 01/03/2015 22:41

YABU.

msgrinch · 01/03/2015 22:44

He should leave your weird controlling self. He's right. or maybe you could do both. Smile

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 01/03/2015 22:44

Eggy bread = savoury
French toast = sweet

MkDaddy · 01/03/2015 22:45

YABVU. It should be used as part of a fry up sandwich and lined with cheese whenever possible. Sweet versions are ok I suppose but to say the savory way is wrong is just foolish speak!

FishyNibble · 01/03/2015 22:46

Got to be made with brown bread & with ketchup on the side. And it's called Egg Fingers in our house.

magimedi · 01/03/2015 22:49

Savoury - no mater what seasoning - but it MUST be savoury.

So, sorry OP, but you are wrong & it's a case of LTB (Leave the bitch) for your DH - who is 100% right. Grin

Damnautocorrect · 01/03/2015 22:51

Always savoury. Only recently heard of sweet
I'm also confused about cheese in the middle? I do cheese on a single slice of bread.

msgrinch · 01/03/2015 22:53

French toast is sweet. poor dh.

fizzycolagurlie · 01/03/2015 22:58

Well the Americans where I live (in California) have it with maple syrup (or similar) and bacon.

annielouisa · 01/03/2015 23:37

Savoury for me and now I fancy some !!

notnaice · 01/03/2015 23:53

Surely you put a little milk into the egg. It would be too eggy without milk.

And with lashings and lashings of tomato sauce. might try it with cheese

Allalonenow · 02/03/2015 00:07

Sweet here, cinnamon and vanilla sugar, I like it made with fruit loaf too.

bedunkalilt · 02/03/2015 00:14

Shock Eggy bread always comes salted... perhaps with some crispy bacon...

YY to what others have said. French toast is the sweet stuff.

Jjuice · 02/03/2015 00:24

My mate marmite.
tempted by the sweet though.

nooka · 02/03/2015 00:34

French toast is only superficially similar to eggy bread/eggy fingers. Eggy fingers is a much drier dish, sandwich bread cut into fingers and dipped into beaten egg and fried. French toast is challa/brioche slices soaked in an egg/milk/sugar and spice mix and fried.

To me eggy fingers is a nursery tea time food while French toast is decadent brunch.

queensansastark · 02/03/2015 00:39

French toast the old style Hong Kong cafe way is with butter and condensed milk.

Savoury is just wrong wrong wrong in my head!

Yambabe · 02/03/2015 00:45

Seems we are pretty much an even split! Smile

But better than that I now have some new recipe ideas to test - liking the idea of both the mozarella en carozza and the jam sandwich varieties........ [drool]

I always call it eggy bread cos that's what we called it when DS was little. My mum always called it french toast but she was a bit fraightfully naice at times (and she used to do it as part of a fry-up, which seems to be wrong on all counts!)

Eggy bread with cheese in the middle has opened my eyes to a while me world!

Fried in butter and served with ketchup here.

I'm going to have to have it for breakfast now.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 02/03/2015 04:28

Well at past midnight I cooked myself a savoury and sweet plate of eggy bread to munch through - glorious!

Bacon & eggy bread: Savoury of course, old style like my mum used to make :) beaten egg & milk plus salt. Used to be part of a fry up but my midnight feast didn't run to fried mushrooms, tomatoes and sausages! So more-ish... Yummmm, the savoury eggy bread must not die!!!

Then eggy bread with fried slices of banana, and drizzle of maple syrup... And a wonderful middle bit of the plate where everything mixed in, yummy yummy :)

I wish I'd had some mozzarella and then I would try the cheese sandwich style...

Cliffdiver · 02/03/2015 05:42

YABVVVVVU... eggy bread is always savoury.

whatsagoodusername · 02/03/2015 06:01

If I order eggy bread in a restaurant, what would I get?

I thought it was always sweet... never heard of such goings on as ketchup and brown sauce and cheese before now.

ImADonkeyOnTheEdge · 02/03/2015 06:09

YABU. Savoury all the way.

Never thought to do it differently.

But that's maybe because I'm British and have never been to America.

zoemaguire · 02/03/2015 06:14

Savoury for the kids, while I secretly sprinkle sugar on their leftovers and scoff it with my back turned!

Knottyknitter · 02/03/2015 09:44

Bacon and maple syrup. And possibly fruit salad.
