AIBU to think that DH is wrong about eggy bread?

He likes it savoury, with beans and maybe a bit of bacon.

Now OK I will allow that bacon goes with everything but I like mine like the americans have it, with a sprinkle of cinnamon, maple syrup and a dash of cream.

Also I am cooking it so it comes how I serve it!

I am right and he is wrong, right? Grin

Either way is fine by me.

Mmmmm.... Eggy bread....

RedButtonhole · 01/03/2015 20:29

The correct way is with bacon and brie.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 01/03/2015 20:30

eggy brad
Lol.
Eggy bread.

FenellaFellorick · 01/03/2015 20:30

I think you're both wrong.

Eggy bread is inedible slop and should be served in a paper bag.

Which you put straight into the bin.

DamsonInDistress · 01/03/2015 20:30

Depends on how you make it surely? There are both savoury and sweet versions. I do mostly sweet for us. 1 egg per person, half teaspoon sugar, teaspoon cream, dash of milk. Beat together thoroughly, soak bread for a few seconds per side and then fry in butter till golden. I have mine sprinkled with a little more sugar, my boys like raspberry jam.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 01/03/2015 20:30

Ooh with cheese sounds divine.

DefinitelyMaybeNo · 01/03/2015 20:31

Yabvu! Savoury all the way here.

o0 · 01/03/2015 20:31

Your DH is right.

Sweet is wrong. I've never actually had it sweet but I just know it's Bad and Not Right.

Noodledoodledoo · 01/03/2015 20:31

Eggy bread and bacon here - ketchup on the side - and has to be white bread.

Waste of good maple syrup.

Best cooked on an open fire at camp as well!

violetlights · 01/03/2015 20:31

I've waited a long time to be asked my opinion on this matter. Everyone hush, I have the answer...

Both. The ideal eggy bread serving consists of a dollop of plain yogurt, maple syrup, fruit (just banana is fine or something more exotic) and bacon. Cinnamon too if you so desire. Please stop all this either / or nonsense.

You may all bow to my wisdom now please.

GooodMythicalMorning · 01/03/2015 20:33

Savoury. Definitely. Really fancy some now but have no eggs so thats a problem..

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 01/03/2015 20:33

Fenella if it's 'slop' then you're making it wrong!

iklboo · 01/03/2015 20:34

Cinnamon for me.

WayfaringStranger · 01/03/2015 20:36

It's clearly sweet.

countessmarkyabitch · 01/03/2015 20:37

You're both being U. One is eggy bread (English dish, savoury) one is French Toast (Pain Perdu: Sweet).

2 distinct entities not to be confused.

ElphabaTheGreen · 01/03/2015 20:37

LTB. Savoury shite has no place near eggy bread Angry

Thick slices of brioche soaked overnight in egg, milk, sugar and cinnamon then served with butter and maple syrup. Had it for breakfast on Saturday.

Can you tell I was raised by an American? Grin

molyholy · 01/03/2015 20:38

Yabu. Savoury. With ketchup.

ElphabaTheGreen · 01/03/2015 20:38

YY countess I never actually called it eggy bread until coming to the UK. It was only ever French toast or pain perdu if we fancied being lah-di-dah.

HappyJustToBe · 01/03/2015 20:39

Ketchup AND brown sauce.

Or maple syrup.

clearingaspaceforthecat · 01/03/2015 20:39

Savoury, obviously.
With ketchup and brown sauce all mixed up in a delicious puddle for dunking the eggy bread in.

weegiemum · 01/03/2015 20:42

Always savoury.

Often with Worcester sauce, or HP.

Bacon, yes, but not barfy syrup!

I love vinegar on mine Smile

tilliebob · 01/03/2015 20:43

Never had French toast any way but savoury. Never heard the term eggy bread until after I was married!
