Ok so earlier, my friend sent me a photo of this dress asking what colour it was, I replied 'white and gold, why?', she said it's blue and black.. I replied no of course it's not.. I shared it to facebook, and some people think it's blue and black and some people think it's white and gold.. and it has just changed! I refreshed the page to see the most recent comments and it changed colour!! Now I can only see blue and black.. AM I GOING MAD?!

Blue and black on my phone.

eachtigertires · 27/02/2015 03:41

White and gold. Am on my phone in the dark. Same at all angles.

TheChickenSituation · 27/02/2015 03:51

I've seen this on a local site, on FB and now in here. I've looked at from up and down and both sides now and refreshed the page.

White and gold every time.

Confused
CheshireCait · 27/02/2015 04:27

On my laptop, it depends on the viewing angle. I can see 'white' and gold from one angle (though the 'white' is actually pale blue - if the dress really is white, the white balance in the photo is way off!), but from another angle the 'gold' is definitely black.

It's just a badly taken photo. No-one needs their eyes tested.

NoPowerInTheVerseCanStopMe · 27/02/2015 04:38

I saw it on Facebook earlier and thought white and gold, but on here now it looks blue and black. Adjusting my phone brightness doesn't make a difference although I am currently sat in the dark whereas earlier when it looked white and gold I had the light on. Is that why it looks different?

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/02/2015 05:33

Tis all solved. Not colour blindness but how our brains process colour and light saturation. the white and golders who are wrong, the dress is blue and black have brains that assume it's a light dress in terrible light. Us blue and blackers see the real colour dress as a blue and black dress in normalish light.

cashewnutty · 27/02/2015 05:41

White and gold on tablet. Will look on laptop later.

Thumbwitch · 27/02/2015 05:43

It's upsetting, isn't it. I was on my laptop when my friend posted it and said "it's white and gold". I said, "rubbish, it's blue and black". Then I looked on my tablet and lo! Bloody thing was white and gold (well actually, blue-grey and bronze). Worse, when I went back to my laptop, it had changed to being bluegrey and bronze there too!!
I tried changing the brightness of my tablet, made fuck all difference, just darkened the grey-blueness and bronze-goldness, didn't make it blue and black.

I can't see it as blue and black any more. But this is the dress and it's DEFINITELY blue and black.

Some people have commented around that it's to do with rods and cones, others that it's to do with mood - I don't bloody know what it is but it's annoying the hell out of me!

Argh! And now - when I first looked at the pic link on the OP's post, it was showing gold and white, now it's gone blue and black again!!

DuchessofBuffonia · 27/02/2015 05:58

Changed brightness and tilted phone to all angles and it remains a deep indigo blue dress with pitch black lace stripes.

Thumbwitch · 27/02/2015 06:01

OK. Whilst this is all deeply upsetting to my brain, I'm finding that, in general, my eyes are seeing it as blue/black at first and then as I look at it, the colours change to grey-blue/gold-bronze. I saw it once for about a second as white and gold, before it darkened before my eyes to grey-blue/gold-bronze.

I do generally have good low-light vision.

Morloth · 27/02/2015 06:03

Looks purple and brown to me on all devices.

You are all crazy.

BitOutOfPractice · 27/02/2015 06:06

I can't even see a dress! (Can't see pics on the phone!)

CinnabarRed · 27/02/2015 06:37

Either way - I don't like that dress.

Lolly86 · 27/02/2015 06:44

White and gold here

WineCowboy · 27/02/2015 06:46

Gold and white here, whichever way I look.

starsandunicorns · 27/02/2015 06:50

Blue black all angles :)

Thumbwitch · 27/02/2015 07:03

www.sciencealert.com/here-s-the-science-behind-that-goddamn-dress
This makes sense. And depending on who you are and what you see, the picture in the middle is the one I see most whenever I look at the bloody photos.

Pipbin · 27/02/2015 07:12

That makes more sense. The colour blindness one was bollocks. Colour blindness is attached to the Y chromosome so the chances of all of us women having undiagnosed colour blindness is slim. (Yes some women can be colourblind but usually caused by another condition like diabetes.)

Anyway, even in the first picture on that last link it looked black and blue to me.

Pipbin · 27/02/2015 07:42

Now on the buzz feed link it looks white and gold.

Camolips · 27/02/2015 07:46

The checkerboard illusion on the buzz feed link was amazing! Still don't believe they are the same colour...
I can't see anything but blue and brown for that dress.

BIWI · 27/02/2015 07:47

That's really weird. In the Buzzfeed picture, I'm seeing blue and gold.

My brain is fried, isn't it?!

SayraT · 27/02/2015 07:51

I've looked at a few different links to this dress and every time, no matter which way I look at it, I still only see white and gold.

Thumbwitch · 27/02/2015 07:52

pipbin - DH sees all 3 pics in that article as black and blue as well.

The buzzfeed link showed a blue-grey and gold dress to start with, but as I scrolled back up to the top, it had gone black and blue again. Maybe it depends on where you start with the picture?!

I don't believe in the checkerboard illusion either, that's amazing! Confused
