To think Nick name drop Grimshaw's time is up on the Breakfast Show

I don't think he deserves the Radio 1 breakfast slot any more.

He's always tried, doesn't get enough sleep, seems bored of his job and is constantly name dropping his exclusive celebrity friends. I was rooting for him when he started, but I've had enough now.

Also, I can't listen to that flippin fan fare music at the beginning off every show. I'm driving when it comes on.

I lasted about an notch before switching to Radio 1X in the mornings.

I didn't mind his evening show and the dynamics between him and Annie Mac were good but he doesn't suit morning slots.

And now I'm going to put it out there - I really enjoyed Chris Moyles and crew. And I'm 44. Yes, they could be a bit puerile at times but you what? So can I!

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 21/02/2015 09:35

I've not listened to radio 1 for years. I turned off during Moyles' reign. Bleugh.

threepiecesuite · 21/02/2015 09:37

I liked Moyles, Dave, Dom and all too.
Don't like Grimmy at all.

CatsCantTwerk · 21/02/2015 09:38

I stopped listening to the R1 breakfast show the day Nick Grimshaw started and have never looked back.

Cant stand the bloke, his whiney voice infuriates me.

meglet · 21/02/2015 09:40

I don't like that robotic voice lady he has on around 9am. so I stopped listening to it after the school run.

Zane Lowe was fun when he filled in.

MrsJacksonAvery · 21/02/2015 09:40

He has no idea of his audience and seems to think we are all exactly the same as him. Sorry, Grimmy, but nobody gives a shit about Collette. Agree about the name-dropping - last week he got any friends listening to text him, so he could presumably boast about it. I miss Chris Moyles and really think it was a kick in the teeth that they didn't give Scott Mills the show.

PrincessOfChina · 21/02/2015 09:41

Without sounding rude, are any of you actually "target audience" age though? Radio 1 have a HUGE problem with their actual audience age being well over what it should be according to their remit. Nick Grimshaw was supposed to actively annoy over 24's.

As it happens, I think they've got it hugely wrong. I refuse to listen to Radio 2 as it's firmly aimed at my 60 year old mother. They are not catering for the late 20 to 60 ish audience with any of the current offerings. I do like 6Music but it's all a bit worthy sometimes. I NEVER listen to commercial radio.

PrincessOfChina · 21/02/2015 09:43

Sorry, bit of a rant there Grin

SeattleGraceMercyDeath · 21/02/2015 09:46

I stopped listening to Radio 1 when Grimmy got the slot. Instead I listen to old podcasts of the Chris Moyles show. Saddo emoticon...

Salemthecat · 21/02/2015 09:46

YADNBU!!
I'm just 25 so within their target market and I stopped listening after the first month. He just grates on every last nerve I have in the morning.

It should have been Scott Mills. I actually miss Moyles and co!

PrincessPilolevuofTONGA · 21/02/2015 09:49

See I quite like him. He's friendly and personable. I couldn't bear moyles who I found nowhere nearly as funny as he thought he was and downright thick

TheGirlFromIpanema · 21/02/2015 09:50

I still listen to R1 and am over the hill forty Grin

I feel a bit of a rebel and in-your-face-beeb-bosses but the R2 shows mostly bore me.

If I want highbrow or intellectual there are other places to listen but mostly I want chit chat and pop music.

I like Grimmy but realise I may give him extra credit for being AM's old side-kick and I did prefer Moyles and crew.

R1 should accept that the actual demographic they want are away listening to shiytty annoying commercial radio.

Wait4nothing · 21/02/2015 09:50

I'm just in the target range at 26 and really like him. I liked moyles but really dislike Scott mills.

Inkanta · 21/02/2015 09:58

'think it was a kick in the teeth that they didn't give Scott Mills the show.'

Actually it was listening to Scott Mills, standing in (when Nick was away filming 'summat' this week), that confirmed it to me. Scott Mills made a refreshing change, and he's modest.

I'm 24 and turned off when Nick Grimshsw took over. Went to commercial radio for a bit then found radio 2 and I much prefer it.

Royalsighness · 21/02/2015 09:59

I'm 23 and I find him to be an irritating obnoxious junkie

ghostyslovesheep · 21/02/2015 09:59

if the kids are in the car I am forced to listen to Kiss

If I'm on my own it's Absolute Radio for breakfast fun and/or Radio Five for everything else (and occasionally breakfast when I'm not in the mood for music)

stopped listening to R1 in about 1998

Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2015 10:03

I loved Chris Moyles and his lot, i was proper upset when he left. McFlyDay, Dominic the Donkey etc. I loved it all. Carrie and Rachel were brilliant.

Nick Grimshaw is terrible that call or delete makes my toes curl. I am not target audience but DS1 (15) is and that's what we have on.

Give the slot to lovely Greg James.

Caboodle · 21/02/2015 10:10

To all of you who liked Chris Moyles do you actually remember how ingratiating he was with his guests? Used to make me cringe. It's all pap (but I will admit to being older than the target audience)

Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2015 10:12

I used to love it when Chris Moyles had guests in. He had people like Jeremy Clarkson. Smile

DoctorDonnaNoble · 21/02/2015 10:19

Hated the breakfast show since Mark and Lard left!

Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2015 10:21

Let's just have 'Mike Read Mike Read 275 and 285' back. Grin

Mouthfulofquiz · 21/02/2015 10:23

I love Nick Grimshaw - I think he is quite funny. I'm definitely not target audience any more but still enjoy radio 1 (with a smidgen of radio 2 from time to time!)
I never enjoyed Chris Moyles, so never listened during that period of time. I like the fact that Grimmy goes out partying with his celeb friends all night. I would! (If I wasn't nearly 34, married with 2 kids...)

JADS · 21/02/2015 10:24

Princess I feel the same. No I'm not in the target demographic for R1 but R2 is so old.

It wasn't so much Moyles that made the Breakfast show, it was Dave, Dom, Carrie etc. They all seemed like normal people doing something they loved. Maybe they think that all the yoof are into sleb culture and that's why Grimmy got the gig. If so, I think that's pretty insulting for youngsters.

Greg James is lovely but he's a bit of an old fogey. I used to listen to his show and he would talk about watching Bargain hunt. I was on ML and I thought that my life was more exciting than Greg ' s.

Mouthfulofquiz · 21/02/2015 10:26

I'm a big Grimmy fan - and I like the fact he is out partying with his celeb friends all the time. Otherwise what would he talk about! I'm well over the target audience though!
(Nearly 34, married with 2 kids...)
