To think Nick name drop Grimshaw's time is up on the Breakfast Show

I don't think he deserves the Radio 1 breakfast slot any more.

He's always tried, doesn't get enough sleep, seems bored of his job and is constantly name dropping his exclusive celebrity friends. I was rooting for him when he started, but I've had enough now.

Also, I can't listen to that flippin fan fare music at the beginning off every show. I'm driving when it comes on.

I just can't listen to Call or Delete, I can't drive properly due to squirming. Showbot was funny the first time, but that was it.

Lucked · 21/02/2015 11:48

I don't like him much either and that robot thing is awful.

I am in my thirties and like listening to Chris Evans but the music on his show is awful and aimed at a much older audience so as soon as he puts a record on I turn over. The BBC2 need to combine a DJ aimed at the 30-50 age group who plays currently popular music.

The truth is lots of the commercial stations get it right. Chat for the mums and dad and music the whole family can listen too.

SoupDragon · 21/02/2015 11:58

I have to mute call or delete.

Sparklingbrook · 21/02/2015 12:06

I hate prank phone calls. In fact I hate pranks. i can't watch Punk'd either.

WonderingWillow · 21/02/2015 12:29

Agree it should have gone to Scott Mills!

CobbOnn · 21/02/2015 13:32

I listened to Chis Moyles for years- since he did Saturday afternoons. Felt like his crew were my mates! Got sick of him in the end when he would start every conversation with "On Twitter last night...". His obsession with Twitter sent me over to Heart. Hate the adverts and a lot of the music is questionable, but Ed and Rachel often make me laugh out loud.

Haven't listened to R1 since about 6months befor he left, never even gave Grimmy a chance. I detest him.

threepiecesuite · 21/02/2015 13:42

I think some of the commercial stations in my area are actually pretty good. Good mix of music, local news, weather and traffic. All I need really! Don't mind the cringey jingles inbetween.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 21/02/2015 13:45

I like him and I'm well over the target. Hate the robotic voice lady though. Greg James is brilliant though - especially nerd alert.

Mousefinkle · 21/02/2015 13:52

I used to like Grimmy when he did the late night show with Annie Mac and Kelly Osbourne had her show for a short while after, I loved listening to that on a Sunday night. I can't say I've listened to him in the morning but I haven't heard one positive review of it so kind of glad I don't...

I used to enjoy Scott Mills in the morning when he filled in for Moyles. Never liked Moyles, nowhere near enough music and a lot of his own self importance. They should've given Mills the slot really, he always did it so well.

Pyjamaramadrama · 21/02/2015 13:58

I like Nick Grimshaw. I despised Chris Moyles so listen to R1 far more now.

I like my local radio stations too though.

Coumarin · 21/02/2015 14:06

I still miss Mark and Lard...

razmataz · 21/02/2015 14:20

I can't bear Grimmy. Find him really irritating and full of himself.

Only time I listen to R 1 now is for Scott Mills, who I love, and Danny Howard dance anthems on a Saturday.

Problem I have with R1 is there's far too much waffle and silly features and not enough music which is what I want when I'm driving. Plus the music is crap after 7pm.

Mostly listen to Kiss, Capital or Absolute.

ForalltheSaints · 21/02/2015 14:30

Agree- I think there is a limited life span for any breakfast radio presenter, largely because of lack of normal sleep patterns.

Radio 1 lost all relevance after October 2004 in any case- when John Peel died.

UsainWho · 21/02/2015 14:37

I think we need Radio 1.5, with the music from Radio 1 and the chat from Radio 2! Quite a lot of the Radio 1 DJs are rubbish IMO now, esp. at the weekend. If they are the future I'm going to have to get some other station worked out. That doesn't have adverts. And that I can listen to in my car. And where the music is post-1972. Sigh.

Caboodle · 21/02/2015 16:56

Coumarin

Bloody LOVED Mark and Lard...

sebsmummy1 · 21/02/2015 17:03

I listen to Kiss and am 40. I like whoever does the drive time a lot on Radio 1. I find myself laughing a lot.

sebsmummy1 · 21/02/2015 17:03

CaptainHammer · 21/02/2015 17:19

Haven't listened to Radio 1 since he started the breakfast show, never liked him. Would have preferred Greg James!

PrincessOfChina · 21/02/2015 17:29

The thing is, I still quite like most of the R1 DJ's - largely because they're a similar age to me (early 30's). The Radio 2 DJ's are all much older. It's just that there's so much age bias on R1 - Teen Awards, Social Media Be Nice Week or whatever it was (although a few people on MN could have taken some tips), etc. It's all so corporately biased towards a demographic they're never going to hit.

15-24 year olds are away watching YouTube or summat. Or on Spotify. They don't have a radio. People who drive cars have radios and they're largely well over 25.

I find it really interesting to ponder what the BBC will do next with their Radio output. R1 is easily the cheapest station to run I believe (per audience member).

FoxyVeganJane · 21/02/2015 17:46

I love radio 6 although I can't get it in the car so endure radio 1 or whatever local channel.

Cannot stand Grimmy, couldn't stand Moylse, don't like Fearn Cotten. I don't mind Scott Mills and Greg James.

But worst then breakfast is the weekend slots, my Lord is that bad. Hate driving at weekends, it was the push to join Spotify so I could download and listen to sonething I would enjoy.

The music on radio 1 is good but it's let down by the terrible banter, the self promoting and the childish idiocracy

cardibach · 21/02/2015 17:55

I haven't listened to Radio 1 since my very early twenties. I'm 50 now and listen to Chris Evans in the morning and Simon Mayo on the way home on Radio 2. They are both (particularly Mayo) intelligent men and I don't see why you think they are aiming at 60+! The mix of music includes stuff from the 80s onwards, so up to about my age, and lots of current stuff. I work with teenagers (teacher) and know all the bands/tracks they are talking about from Radio 2. I think it does get a bit older during the middle of the day, but morning and driving home it's good for me, and has been for about 20 years.

Coumarin · 21/02/2015 17:58

Caboodle I loved them.

RestingFuckFace · 21/02/2015 18:04

Scott Mills always should have got that slot, he was down graded when they made the changes it was a fucking travesty.

I no longer listen to the morning radio because of grimmy as well, and that bloody showbot, I can't believe they kept that. Painful.

meglet · 21/02/2015 18:07

Mark & Lard were filthy. Grin
