I am 'too old' to be considered as Radio 1's target demographic. I must be well and truly elderly at 36
I commute for 3hrs daily and spend most of my time switching between Radio 1, 2 and 4.
In all honesty, I don't like Nick Grimshaw's show. I have tried to like it and he has got better, but it's still not good. I think he believes his own celebrity hype and most of his show makes for uncomfortable listening. His features are even worse than his presenting style!
I love Scott Mills and he has an excellent rapport with Chris Stark. They covered for Nick Grimshaw on Friday and had Ant and Dec as guests; I spent most of my commute in tears of laughter - it was bloody brilliant.
I love Greg James too. His features are great - rage against the machine, nerd alert and 10 minute takeover are fab. He's also had on some excellent guests - Sir David Attenborough was just brilliant.
I cannot stand Fearne Cotton. I just dislike her show with a passion and she gives me the rage. For some reason the execs in the BBC do not agree but I will live in hope that they see the light one day...
When it comes to Radio 2, I like Chris Evans' show, but his music is far too cheesy. I enjoy Jeremy Vine too, but again the music... When it comes to their shows I will happily listen to their chat and invariably turn over when the music begins.
Sara Cox is fantastic on Radio 2. She has covered for Ken Bruce in the past and I love her witty chat and personal anecdotes.
I think the BBC needs a good kick up its proverbial arse. The need to stop chasing demographics that simply aren't there and concentrate on pleasing the audiences they do have. They do not target the 25-45yr age range with any of their main stations and I think they're spectacularly missing out by not doing so.
