to think sharing explicit anti-meat eating photos on Facebook is completely abhorrent and unnecessary? [Title edited by MNHQ]

I'm sat here eating a naice ham sandwich, scrolling through & minding my own business when WHAM, a picture of a sleeping puppy being carved like a joint of meat on my newsfeed. Poster is an old school friend and a (recent) vegetarian.

I mean seriously, I don't share photos of great big juicy steaks to promote my status as a meat-eater? Hmm

do you REALLY need to ask Hmm

WiiUnfit · 30/01/2015 13:27

Not really ghosty, just wanted to check I wasn't going mental & this was a seemingly accepted thing now! Confused

You might want to edit your title, it's a horrible image.

AbbyCadabby · 30/01/2015 13:29

Why does it upset you? What is the difference between a puppy, and the pig you just ate? That pig was probably the same age as the puppy, btw - still a baby - they kill them young.
You don't have to share photos of your great big juicy steaks - images of meat are everywhere.

The photo is designed to make you think. Why do you accept the deaths of pigs, yet find dog death abhorrent?

NickiFury · 30/01/2015 13:30

I really wish you hadn't posted this. I am going to report it to ask MN to edit the title.

BuzzardBird · 30/01/2015 13:30

You can block posts from the particular site.

InfinitySeven · 30/01/2015 13:31

Thanks for the title...

ThereIsACarInTheKitchen · 30/01/2015 13:35

Well it's made you think OP, hasn't it? Which was exactly the point.

rinabean · 30/01/2015 13:37

Your post title is hilarious. Omg an animal being chopped up like an ANIMAL it's so wrong

coolaschmoola · 30/01/2015 13:41

Oh the irony.... You're objecting to seeing a baby animal being sliced up, whilst eating a sliced up baby animal.... Hmm

And I doubt it was asleep as being sliced up would tend to wake up any animal. The puppy was dead, same as the piglet in your sandwich.

AbbyCadabby · 30/01/2015 13:41

Pigs have characters, they are lovely animals, yet you spare them no thought. It is really worth exploring why you feel this way. Make the connection that ALL animals are as worthy of our care as dogs and cats. Nice video here: www.facebook.com/video.php?v=622570901159767

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 30/01/2015 13:43

Hi all,
we received a few reports regarding the title, so we have made an edit.

Mintyy · 30/01/2015 13:44

Yanbu. Who was it shared by? I hope you blocked them.

AbbyCadabby · 30/01/2015 13:44

Great. Can you edit any title that has 'naice ham' in it too? I'm offended by that!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 30/01/2015 13:45

For petes sake MNHQ! I'm willing to bet you wouldn't have edited the title if it had described a cow jointed up! or the pig for the OPs sandwich

MrsTawdry · 30/01/2015 13:48

I resent the constant pushing that vegans and vegetarians do too OP and my DH is a vegan so I live with it.

But to them it's a cause...similar to Feminism. I feel like telling them to direct their energies towards children who are abused instead of where they are...but hey ho. Each to his own. If she does it again, block her.

WiiUnfit · 30/01/2015 13:52

Apologies if my original title offended / upset anyone.

I don't for one second believe pigs, or any other animals, don't have character or any more / less worth or value than anyone or anything else. I just don't want to see that on my newsfeed in the same way I wouldn't wish to see a pig, cow, lamb, etc being slaughtered or carved whilst still furry as this picture was Confused

Mintyy, yes I did.

AbbyCadabby · 30/01/2015 13:57

Oh, so it's ok if the pig or cow's skin has been removed - all sanitised and lovely, like - then it's ok to post those photos? My Fb had lots of people posting up photos of their dinner, aka animals that had to be killed to make said dinner. I've hidden posters who post images of animal flesh parading as meals, but it is EVERYWHERE. Adverts promoting the consumption of animal flesh is all over the place. KFC, check. McDonalds, check. Steakhouse, check. And so on. Bet you aren't complaining about those. Why not?

I suppose you think those in Asian countries who eat cats and dogs are evil, yet we in the west, who eat cows, sheep, pigs, chicken and fish are normal.

Mintyy · 30/01/2015 14:02

No, Abby, can you not read? Your diet isn't doing much for your brain is it? Op said she did not want to see pictures of any animals being slaughtered on her facebook feed.

WiiUnfit · 30/01/2015 14:04

Abby, I didn't say it was fine. Undeniably, it is massively more disturbing than say a prepped turkey crown to most people.

DontForgetTheLightAlesLawrence · 30/01/2015 14:06

YABU. I was eating my vegan lunch the other day. Whilst browsing fb up popped a picture of some lambs' liver, on a group I'm in (Frugal Homemaking).

Can you really not see the irony in your post? An animal is an animal, dog, pig...

crazypenguin · 30/01/2015 14:06

I normally respect my veggie and vegan friends. If I invite them to dinner I will make sure that their food adheres to their diet/beliefs.
BUT I once had one of these friends leave a Peta type meat is murder leaflet on my cooker after I had cooked for her.
I made sure I mostly ate practically blue steak around her after that. Grin
Don't force your beliefs on me and I won't force you to watch me eat bloody meat. Simple. Grin

AbbyCadabby · 30/01/2015 14:09

It is obviously fine to you if you were eating a naice ham sandwich. You looked at it, did you not? Why is it more disturbing, to see a dead dog than a dead turkey? You wouldn't think that way if you were raised in China, say. And that's exactly it - you have been conditioned in this society to think of dogs as worthy of love and life, and turkeys as indispensable. Your recent vegetarian friend was asking you to consider changing your mindset. Will you?

Mintyy, neither do I, yet you carnists think nothing of posting up photos of your latest steak, or lobster boiling to death, or the paella you had on holiday. I am asking you to make the connection. Why be outraged at the death of a dog, yet continue to exploit other animals?

WiiUnfit · 30/01/2015 14:13

DontForget, I do see the irony, I just don't feel it's appropriate to share such images in an attempt to force your beliefs on others.

Exactly crazypenguin. Whether people choose to eat meat or not is none of my business & frankly, I really don't mind, but horrific images being thrust at people because they disagree with you is so wrong. I too have cooked for veggie friends & have no problem doing so, thankfully they've never tried a meat-is-murder style intervention though!
