None of the woman she has picked are insperational, maybe Beyonce but I dont like her faux feminism.

Also on this collage there is a certain voilent racist Geordie, a wag that's married to the guy with the hair transplant and a certain popstar who's surname ryhmes with whora who has lots of dodgy stories...

Basically it looks like she's shallow and just chosen dumb/ horrible models. I gave her a load of guardians to use but looks like she's got a trashy mag also.

Aibu?

OP posts:
Kundry · 02/11/2014 10:36

And there is no way that could be an appropriate topic for a mother to talk to her daughter about?

fabricfreeshiner · 02/11/2014 10:36

YABVU wasting good coffee! And you will have to clear it up ...

Stupidhead · 02/11/2014 10:36

Right, the Geordie racist managed to train well in dance and make something successful of herself with very little talent. She is actually hated up here (the NE) but my friend did her hair once and she was down to earth, very lovely and gave a huge tip.

The wag has managed a modelling and design career despite not looking like either and has done a lot of work with disabled charities and promoting them.

Erm, the singer? Is that the 'R' one? She does a lot for her home country (struggling here) she keeps fit? Er..no, I give up.

If it's any help my friend did a similar homework in the 80s and picked Wonder Woman.

Jenni2legs · 02/11/2014 10:37
Lupita Nyong's speech is beautiful and inspirational. TBH if I was making a poster I'd use magazine rather than Guardian's as newspaper looks shit glued.
saoirse31 · 02/11/2014 10:37

yep I agree actually good point!

fabricfreeshiner · 02/11/2014 10:38

I would add to lougle's list(about Cheryl) has spoken honestly about her breakdown, highlighting that everyone suffers MH problems at some time, and that she took time off to deal with it.

Very brave of her!

puds11isNAUGHTYnotNAICE · 02/11/2014 10:49

Well this escalated quickly.

OP if you're going to go around referring to other women as whores and 'people of colour' Hmm I think the least of your worries is you childs inspiration board.

XiCi · 02/11/2014 10:51

God you sound like a nightmare. Let the poor girl do her own homework. She didn't ask for your help, it is supposed to reflect her thoughts not yours

As for the comments re Condoleezza Rice's hair, words fail me. You don't consider a woman inspirational if her hair isn't natural? WTAF? Jess Ennis straightens her hair and has highlights, maybe you should take her off your list

Stupidhead · 02/11/2014 10:51

Oh I didn't see the 'woman of colour' comment, perhaps she should do her own inspiration board Confused

Mrsjayy · 02/11/2014 10:55

You model her op you are her main role model colleen whatme shouldn't be on a 9yr old radar I would direct her not want to ruin her home work but this is what your dd thinks is inspirational so..

Mrsjayy · 02/11/2014 10:59

Naural hair odfod NATURAL HAIR jeez

Floisme · 02/11/2014 11:02

She's 9. At her age, I'd have probably chosen Miss World, Lady Penelope and Emma Peel. The thing is, I grew up (although I still love Emma Peel) and so will your daughter. In the meantime, I think you should let her do her own homework.

FauxFox · 02/11/2014 11:03

My dd is 9 and would probably like to include bindi steve Irwin's dd on the list.

pearpotter · 02/11/2014 11:04

DD1 is 9 and wouldn't pick such a list.

It reflects badly on your parenting that she does, I'm afraid.

anyoldname76 · 02/11/2014 11:10

Yabu its not your homework, its your dds.

PurpleSwift · 02/11/2014 11:14

Um, Cheryl isn't "hated" in the NE. Perhaps in some circles she is. What a silly generalisation.

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 02/11/2014 11:26

pearpotter No, it's normal for a child. They don't start out as adults.

Get a grip. Some of the responses on this thread are astounding

ilovesooty · 02/11/2014 11:29

Just butt out and stop interfering with her homework.
Your posts about these women are deeply unpleasant anyway.

OneHandFlapping · 02/11/2014 11:30

I think other posters have been very unfair to you, OP, and there is definitely a conversation you can have with your DD about why she's only picked pretty women. Something to do with women being primarily valued for their looks perhaps, and whether that is right.

I bet if she'd been asked to pick inspirational men (or if the boys had) then looks would NOT have been the first thing they'd look for.

bananaramadramallama · 02/11/2014 11:34

pearpotter - what do you think a 9 yr old girl would pick that reflects well on someone's 'parenting'?

mrsruffallo · 02/11/2014 11:40

'comedians such as Sarah millican'

Can't believe someone suggested this as an inspiration for a 9 yr old girl!

Riverland · 02/11/2014 11:43

When I was 9 I would have chosen my mum, my sisters, my grandma, Enid Blyton and probably a pop star.

You use what you know.

bananaramadramallama · 02/11/2014 11:51

I would have probably picked Enid Blyton too!

At 9 I liked Flo-Jo, the American sprinter because she had beautiful nails; Maggie Thatcher because she was a woman in charge of the country; Madonna, because she was cool; Lady Diana, because she was a princess; George from the Famous Five because I wanted to be like her.

That was as deep as it went for me at 9 years old.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 02/11/2014 11:51

Its her homework. These are the women who inspire her.
You can make a collage of the women who inspire you for your homework.

Although, I sort of get where your coming from because I often hope my kids will pick the more nutritious, "middle-class" foods from a picnic/ buffet so i am pleased when they wolf down the olives, and feel some degree of self critical shame when they dive straight in for the chocolate fingers. YABU

My DD loved Jennifer Lopez and that Lady Marmalade song when she was young. This year she achieved 10 A* and 2 A for GCSE.

I never got involved in her homework, it was her business and her responsibility.
