to think it's too bloody dark too early and Scotland should have its own timezone if they want lighter mornings?

Just that really.

Yanbu

tippytap · 26/10/2014 17:56

I agree. Soo depressing that it was dark by 5 this evening.

InkleWinkle · 26/10/2014 17:57

YANBU!

specialsubject · 26/10/2014 17:57

and so say all of us.

apparently the 'lighter later' bill was filibustered in 2012 because we didn't want to upset Scotland. Sincerely hope someone is trying again because this is ridiculous.

EdYouKateShaun · 26/10/2014 17:57

Absolutely! V depressing that it's been dark since 5 Confused

BlueGreenHazelGreen · 26/10/2014 17:57

Well that's just charming Mardy

Very considerate.

PiperIsOrange · 26/10/2014 17:59

I hate the clock change it throws DS right out routine, his routine is very important due to being asd

MardyBra · 26/10/2014 17:59

Yes, I read that earlier special. But can't link because behind the Times paywall.

Oops I misread the title. I'm in Scotland and I'd happily stay on BST.
Why would lighter later upset Scotland?

RedButtonhole · 26/10/2014 17:59

Well it would probably be possible if we weren't stuck to you lot with no hope of escape Grin

CambridgeBlue · 26/10/2014 18:00

Agree, winter is bad enough without it being dark as well :(.

MardyBra · 26/10/2014 18:01

"Well that's just charming Mardy"

Well, I'm not advocating forcing those north of the border to adhere to my plan. Just saying that maybe it's time for two timezones. It works in many other countries.

YANBU.

I hate the dark evenings.

MardyBra · 26/10/2014 18:02

"Why would lighter later upset Scotland?"

I always thought we had to have lighter mornings for farmers, etc in the northern part of the country.

MardyBra · 26/10/2014 18:03

I don't mind what Scotland does tbh. I'd just rather it doesn't get dark in the middle of the afternoon.

I realise this isn't a coherent argument. I'm just mourning the lack of light.

If only there had been some process recently whereby our two countries and their very different needs could have amicably separated...

Littlehomebird · 26/10/2014 18:06

Well said red buttonhole !! The number of road traffic accidents involving children on their way to school in the pitch dark was a factor which was taken into consideration regarding the clock change for Scotland. But to hell with them eh Mardy bra?! Let's put children at risk to suit you. Selfish bloody attitude! Away you go & look up the thread about the British having a awful attitude it'll suit you!

AnyoneForTardis · 26/10/2014 18:06

doesn't AMerica have different time zones WITHIN IT?

DONT SEE WHY Scotland CANT HAVE A DIFFERENT tz TO England (Blasted caps lock!!!!)

ImogenQuy · 26/10/2014 18:06

YABU. I hate dark mornings. There's so little daylight in winter that if we stayed on summer time I'd have to go to work in the dark as well as coming home in the dark, and I wouldn't see daylight all week. At least on GMT I get some light as I go to the office!

Fundamentally the problem is that we all live too far north and there isn't enough light to go round at this time of year!

Toooldtobearsed · 26/10/2014 18:06

Well, I love the clocks changing. Means I don't have to carry a torch to walk the dog in the morning:)

Very unfair to blame Scotland. William Willet introduced the idea to enable him to go early morning hunting in Chislehurst.

Britain adapted the idea during the First World War (if my school day memory serves me well).

I live in the north, in the country, and hate dark mornings. Horses for courses really Grin

SetPhasersTaeMalkie · 26/10/2014 18:07

I'm in Scotland and couldn't give a toss.

It's dark all the bloody time here in winter.

Last time I checked Scotland, as a country, couldn't agree on anything.

Great stirry thread though.

londonrach · 26/10/2014 18:07

I hate dark morning but also hate dark evenings.....can i sit on a none barbed wire fence...

MardyBra · 26/10/2014 18:08

I'm not blaming Scotland. I'm just saying we should be able to go our own way. And it wouldn't affect school children in England littlehomebird.
