Pregnant and going through that horrible off food stage, but occasionally someone talks about something or I see it on tv and it has my mouth watering and appetite suddenly raging. I'm hoping for a few of these-preferably things that are v quick to grab/make as otherwise I could lose my appetite half way through cooking!
Tell me your best and yummiest quick treats (sweet and savoury)please!!

zippyandbungle · 23/10/2014 09:56

White sliced sandwich with iceburg lettuce, tomatoes, spring onions proper salad cream and loads of salt and pepper.
White bread with real butter and brown sauce.
White toast with butter and golden syrup.
White bread crisp sandwich.
I'm off to buy some white bread. Damn you mumsnet.

angelopal · 23/10/2014 10:22

Eggy bread. Takes 5 mins and is great comfort food. Been making it for dd as great finger food.

Wish I had remembered about it when pregnant.

Titsalinabumsquash · 23/10/2014 10:24

Omg! I had forgotten about eggy bread! Shock

That's lunch sorted then! Grin

ghostland · 23/10/2014 11:30

Pickled herring (roll mops).

upduffedsecret · 23/10/2014 11:45

nutella and peanut butter sandwich... mmmmmmmmmm!

(though at the moment I'd take your arm off for jacket potato with cheese)

HairyMagratsScare · 23/10/2014 11:51

What on earth is eggy bread? Sounds disgusting! Envy --> not envy

HangingBasketCase · 23/10/2014 12:04

You've never had eggy bread?! Really?! Some poshpeople call it French toast.

NickyEds · 23/10/2014 12:09

You beat an egg in a bowl, then dip bread in it then fry the bread. It's yummySmile

HairyMagratsScare · 23/10/2014 12:11

Never had it but I'll try it.

OK beaten egg in a bowl, soak a slice of bread in it & fry?

I don't like omelettes, is it similar?

Mammanat222 · 23/10/2014 12:17

I call my "council house dinner" school dinner

It's usually something like breaded chicken breasts (shop bought though), potato croquettes and beans... pure laziness more than craving to be honest. Also the bean juice has to be mopped up with white bread and butter! I don't even like white bread.

This pregnancy is same as the last in that all I want in carbs - and bad carbs! Garlic bread is a particular fave, sadly DS also seems to have taken a massive liking to it so I am banning it... soon!

NickyEds · 23/10/2014 12:18

It is a bit similar to omelette but without any healthy veg or anything-just bread(ALWAYS white bread) instead! Oh and fry it in butter. It's really not very good for you, hence the guilty pleasure!

Mammanat222 · 23/10/2014 12:19

Eggy bread (posh name French toast!!) was one of the first things I gave DS when weaning. So easy and a nice way to introduce them to egg.

Mammanat222 · 23/10/2014 12:20

  • I never used to fry mine in butter when I gave it to DS when he was 6 months old Shock

But yep looking back it probably wasn't the healthiest thing to give!!

Titsalinabumsquash · 23/10/2014 12:34

I've just wolfed down a plate of wholemeal eggy bread, seasoned, with salt and pepper and dipped in home made ketchup. I'm under no illusions about its health benefits but it was damn tasty and DS3 has had a couple of triangles too. He seems to approve. Grin

SenatusPopulusqueRomanorum · 23/10/2014 12:34

Sweet : raw cookie dough. Vanilla icecream with butterschotch sauce.

Savoury : leftover sauteed potatoes, reheated with cheddar and onions.

YouLoveItDoreen · 23/10/2014 12:35

Beat a few eggs, drop in some Haslet, heat a little oil in a pan and add the mixture, let it form omelette style. Flip and then cut in to four slices ( it doesn't matter if it crumbled on flipping), slice and toast two breakfast muffins, butter and layer the Haslet omelette on the muffin, add golden syrup tomato ketchup or brown sauce and enjoy!

Bobtailstrikesagain · 23/10/2014 12:40

Hot crumpets with the butter melted, then extra butter spread over it when that's soaked in followed by peanut butter or syrup or both.

Half a tin of condensed milk. (Can't eat a whole tin, 'cos I'd be sick, probably). It's just lovely, though - tastes all fudgy. Haven't eaten it for years, but I do yearn for it. (And I'm not even pregnant)

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 23/10/2014 12:47

Ooh, LA - you reminded me of another. Pancakes (or toast, at a push) buttered and Nutella'd, drizzled with golden syrup, dollop of whipped cream. Mmmmmmmmmm!!!!

(I'm really not the size of a house, honestly) Grin

ShinyToyBuns · 23/10/2014 12:58

Crispy homemade roasties with proper beef gravy

Turkey, pigs in blankets, stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce bap (all year round not just christmas!)

Cashew nut butter, nutella and banana sandwiches on white thick bread

Chips and mayonnaise

Fish finger, lettuce and mayonnaise sandwich

And these are the reasons why i will never get below a size 12-14!

dinodiva · 23/10/2014 13:12

Marmite and peanut butter sandwiches

Tinned ravioli with chunks of cheese mixed in

Potato waffle sandwiches with generous amounts of butter and ketchup. Not had that in years...

spilttheteaagain · 23/10/2014 13:19

When I was pregnant proper roast potatoes (about 14 Blush) doused with applesauce and gravy. And a bacon sandwich on the side.

Now, banana sliced in half and filled with peanut butter and rebuilt.

Dark chocolate rammed through the centre of a medjool date.

Those roasted vegetable crisps

Banana pancakes

French stick and dark chocolate, they go astoundingly well!

ZingWidge · 23/10/2014 13:36

umm, HAMWIDGE, of course!

ham

(for those who don't know)
