Sorry, filled the last thread with this, thought I'd better be part of Team Scottish MN and work together for those of us on the old thread...

Here's Armando's thoughts. I vote him in for everything.

Did anyone read "The Mummyfesto" ? The name was a bit Hmm ... but it was about a group of women starting their own political party mainly on a platform of protecting the vulnerable (interesting other policies included replacing the House of Lords with Mumsnet). Grin

tabulahrasa · 23/09/2014 13:23

Lol, MAGPIS is not good.

Statistically, I don't know either...I'm not very happy with any political party at the moment.

I'm not sure about regimental instead of regiment it makes us sound more military...

The monstrous regiment of Scottish pragmatists?

See this is why I'm not in politics, I get distracted by silly things like names, rofl

Grin

I'll be interested to hear/read AS's statement in Holyrood this afternoon.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 23/09/2014 13:28

ah, and here is where to keep an eye on devolved powers.

I'm ashamed to say I know nothing about Lord Smith of Kelvin but will be reading up.

tabulahrasa · 23/09/2014 13:30

Oh dear god...

I have just seen this.

Now, as I've said, I really do understand how upset people are and I can totally see that it's useful to put your energy into something productive, but...seriously? Unchain the unicorn?

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 23/09/2014 13:32

sorry, an easier link is this on the BBC

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 23/09/2014 13:34

oh dear tabula, pp need to get a grip

Behoove · 23/09/2014 13:34

It's getting rather pathetic, isn't it. I mean who doesn't like unicorns!
Hands off my passport anyway.

tabulahrasa · 23/09/2014 13:37

I'm still going Shock at the unicorn petition, lol.

I saw the chained unicorn being used pre-referendum and ok, nice wee metaphor.

But, why go to the bother of trying to change that, when you could be trying to change something actually, you know, useful...

livingzuid · 23/09/2014 13:44

Are they calling themselves 38% degrees now? Tbh it sounds like a bad 80s boy band.

And I'm interested in a new party! I really admire Caroline Lucas but I know nothing about the Scottish Greens. That was always my main party to vote for before.

tabulahrasa · 23/09/2014 13:46

Lord smith of kelvin

No, 38 degrees is just a petition hosting site as far as I know.

Spiritedwolf · 23/09/2014 13:46

38 degrees is a separate thing, people use it to do petitions, sometimes about things which matter... Hmm

livingzuid · 23/09/2014 13:56

Oh so it is. Got confused sorry Grin

tabulahrasa · 23/09/2014 14:01

To be fair, the whole thing was fairly confusing.

I mean at least the calls for another referendum make sense in a...I'm not happy with the referendum result, I want to change it way.

I'm not happy with the results, I want to change the picture of the unicorn, is just , well, odd.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 23/09/2014 14:09

AS live at SP now on BBC Parliament.

Has so far thanked both sides for the peaceful referendum.

with a dig at the media of course Wink

Spiritedwolf · 23/09/2014 14:11

Salmond is on the BBC in triplicate: BBC2, BBC Parliament and BBC News.... goodness knows when/if I'll get to see Ed Miliband's speech to conference... but Salmond on three BBC channels is a bit ironic given the accusations of bias.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/09/2014 14:12

Ah but I'm sure they'll be simultaneously cutting anything nice he says, no? Grin

livingzuid · 23/09/2014 14:16

I was pleased with the appointment of Lord Smith of Kelvin. He's a sensible man.

Spiritedwolf · 23/09/2014 14:16

I dont think it's started yet, but other Labour geeks can Ed Miliband on the Guardian Live Blog when it starts if it isn't covered on the Beeb.

Or is that just me then? Wink

tabulahrasa · 23/09/2014 14:21

To be fair...the accusation of BBC bias does come from a report from the professor of media and politics at the university of the west of Scotland who looked at a years worth of footage.

He does add that some of it is to be expected as obviously everything had some subtle bias...interestingly the BBC dealt with it very oddly, but he says he's happy to answer any peer criticism and it was just an academic study. (Paraphrasing what he said of course)

So it's not all based on sour grapes.

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/09/2014 14:24

It does cover a year, but crucially not the period immediately before the referendum. The period looked at ended in, I think, sept 2013. So it's not necessarily the most relevant analysis for the main referendum period when there was a huge amount of reporting going on.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 23/09/2014 14:30

Johann Lamont saying what needed to be said re. intimidating behaviour on both sides, and calling AS on not distancing himself from some aggressive Yes campaigners.

tabulahrasa · 23/09/2014 14:32

Yes I know it's quite a bit before the real run up to it, but looking at it briefly it does comment on things like the structure of news, yes campaign proposals all being presented as Salmond's and other fairly interesting things that didn't change as it got closer.

I don't think they were editing every speech secretly or anything like that, lol.

But I do think they maybe should be at least thinking about reviewing their impartiality on reporting on lots of things...as in if an academic working in that field suggests that maybe you're not quite as impartial as you're supposed to be and it does hold some water, it's not bad practice to at least take it on board.

ChippingInLatteLover · 23/09/2014 14:48

Civilised parliament - much better than Westminster!! It's actually watchable.

I have to go to a meeting - gah, I want to watch this!! (Hopefully it's recording!).

Speak to you all later!

tabulahrasa · 23/09/2014 14:55

I think Willie Rennie's been reading mumsnet Hmm lol
