I don't like the idea of them leaving but, like I said on another thread, I hope that the losing side , which ever it is, accept the result with grace and everything is calm and peaceful.

YANBU though I am at the stage where I just want to see the back of Alex Salmond and his toady face.

I have no emotional investment in the result either way so I don't feel sad. I'm a little concerned about the future of both entities (although, unlike Admit, I'd be prepared to take a tax hit in order to see democracy prevail). It's very exciting though; I'm a pie chart/swingometer geek on any election day, so I predict a late night/early morning for me!

I voted with a very heavy heart and a clear minded head this morning.

I don't like what this has done to some of my friends and family, it has shown bitterness amongst us that was never there before and unfortunately this has been a common experience amongst people I have spoken to.

I hope that everything remains calm regardless of the result but I would be surprised if this were the case here as even the local council has erected signs around half our small city declaring their support for one side.

I hope Scotland gets the result they are happy with. I had a brilliant holiday in Edinburgh two years ago, it was beautiful.

YANBU.....but a curious part of me would love to watch it all evolve over the next few years if it's a yes. I feel very much a bystander; I live in the south east with no Scottish relatives. Although I do have Scottish friends down here. So I don't feel particularly affected by it.

I've found reading the threads quite sad about aggression towards the English (only the English, not the Welsh or Northern Irish) which people in Scotland have experienced. Maybe there should be a separation. It's only been a unions for about 300 years so we have spent more time apart than together after all.

It'll be a relief when tomorrow comes and everyone has no choice but to move on,,whatever the outcome.

I worry about defence and the terror threat for all of us. Is that unreasonable? Has Salmond really considered what will happen if another power decides it would like 'his' oil?

I'm quite excited for Scotland tbh. I have some very vocal yeses on my Flist, and I hope they get the result they want.

I can't imagine feeling less united from Scotland if they get independence anyway. I live on the South Coast- Scotland has always been a "foreign" country to me.

Nope I don't have strong feelings either way, most people I've spoken to IRL don't mind either. I've felt irritated every time I've heard Cameron speaking on behalf of the English/Welsh/NIrish, I don't know what research or polling he bases his assertions on when he says that we all want Scotland to stay part of the Union. I think all the doom-mongering about the consequences of the split are exaggerations, if Scotland votes for independence I think the governments, businesses and institutions that have been issuing warning will find a way to get on with it. If anything I think I'd rather a Yes vote because I think independence will happen at some point in the next 50 years and a Yes vote now will avoid us all going through the expense of a referendum again.

Admit try living in Scotland

We're bombarded with infomercials, leaflets, campaigners knocking the door at all hours (9.30pm last week!), TV programs whether it is debate or random minor celebs "investigating" the truth (on the off chance Kevin Bridges is reading, its blatantly obvious you had made up your mind before embarking in your presumably well paid "journey of discovery"), about 25 minutes of our 30 minute news broadcasts being taken up by it and last of all the fucking pop up shops that have taken up space in the middle of our town where they feel the need to bombard you with info, leaflets, ask your opinion and throw balloons/stickers at your children! Its quite intimidating tbh and many in Scotland agree that there are more pressing issues happening in the world that we would much rather be dealing with.

Sorry that sounded like I was having a go, I'm not I very believe that to be a truly democratic society we need to respect differing views but I'm just sick of the whole thing now but unfortunately for us it won't just die down and disappear regardless of which side gains the majority.

If Salmond wins will Cameron fall on his sword as the Prime Minister who oversaw the break up of the Union? No wonder he looks nervous.
