If it's Yes,
does it mean that England will no longer have to continue to subsidise Scottish policies such as free care for the elderly, free university tuitiion and free prescription, which are not available south of the border

It we do, I can see LOTS of anger and resentment brewing between the two countries this is not the case Shock

Democracy is only exciting if you think you are on the winning side.

The decision can never be reversed, unlike a general election in 4 years time.

Larry you raise a good point, now I'm definitely rooting for yes Wink

foxinthebox · 18/09/2014 11:01

If scotland are a yes i want a referendum on my taxes going towards any shoring up of the new Scotland. A clean break. Sort out your money, your schools and your hospitals yourselves.

ashmts · 18/09/2014 11:04

onelastfling Why would Salmond remind you of Farage?

Do people genuinely still think that the rest of the UK pay for Scotland's tuition and prescriptions?

onelastfling · 18/09/2014 11:04

A clean break. Sort out your money, your schools and your hospitals yourselves.

Exactly.

(I will be sad to lose them if it's a yes), but they should stand on their own two feet if it is.

PenisesAreNotPink · 18/09/2014 11:04

Yes, they will move on happily.

To suggest anything else is to say that they don't believe in Democracy and the Scots are really passionate about democracy.

In challenging austere times it's really incredible that any percentage would vote for a change to the status quo - people who are under pressure are very risk averse.

Whatever side you're on it's unbelievable that it's so split, it's just such an amazing thing that 40% plus would vote for change.

It's inspiring, incredible, hopeful ... that humans would do this.

Whatever the vote it will be fine and GALLUS tomorrow. Folk love a good argy bargy but it WILL go back immediately to being absolutely fine.

onelastfling · 18/09/2014 11:05

onelastfling Why would Salmond remind you of Farage?

He's got that same loose canon slightly looney look about him.

onelastfling · 18/09/2014 11:06

He looks all talk no substance. Untrustworthy.

NickiFury · 18/09/2014 11:10

I don't care and I am sick to the back teeth of hearing about it. I don't think the yes's have thought through what it will really mean for them and I think AS just wants to be the one that did it. Whatever way it goes, I just hope everyone STFU about it, but they won't happen, it will be ENDLESS.

EarthWindFire · 18/09/2014 11:16

YABU. It's exciting, for christ's sake. DEMOCRACY. Enjoy it, it'll be a while before it comes around again.

'Enjoy it' certainly wouldn't be a phrase I would use!

I have to say there are many in England if my FB feed us anything to go buy, think the same.

PistolWhipped · 18/09/2014 11:20

I personally can't wait to see the back of Irn Bru.

onelastfling · 18/09/2014 11:21

I love Irn Bru Grin

onelastfling · 18/09/2014 11:23

Mel Gibson can do another another gringeworthy, over-sentimental film (which he's spectacularly good at)

MaidOfStars · 18/09/2014 11:23

Sorry, to clarify, I would accept higher taxes in rUK to fill any gaps in the rUK economy created by Scottish independence. I wouldn't agree to higher taxes to subsidise a newly-independent Scotland.

TunipTheUnconquerable · 18/09/2014 11:23

He could play Alex Salmond Smile

I don't think you are on your own with that thought.

Catzeyess · 18/09/2014 11:27

I hope for goodness sake if it's 'yes' that David Cameron and Nick Clegg fight for the best deal for the rUK.

NinjaLeprechaun · 18/09/2014 11:28

He looks all talk no substance. Untrustworthy.
Most politicians look like that, don't they?

Personally, I've always been slightly puzzled by British Nationalism. But then I was probably 6 or 7 before I discovered that Scotland and Wales weren't independent (from England) countries. And I was an adult before I got the Ireland/Northern Ireland thing properly figured out. So this all feels a bit like putting things the way they should be to me.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 18/09/2014 11:30

Yes I'm upset at the prospect too. I love Scotland and Scots and feel that it will be part of our heritage being ripped away too if they become independent. I had a bad dream last night about it happening :(

onelastfling · 18/09/2014 11:31

Divide and Conquer.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 18/09/2014 11:31

I've alway very much felt British more than English.
