To think you get "a side" in bed and that's that? There's no changing?

DH thinks that you can opt for either side.

Who is being unreasonable?

My gorgeous DH gave up his side of the bed when we got together.

Cat1984 · 18/09/2014 17:17

I used to sleep on the right hand side and would NOT swap even though DP kept pestering me to swap, then we had to swap bedrooms with the kids and as my side would have been next to the window I had to swap as I need the baby at my side in her cot and she can't sleep at the side of the window Sad still have trouble sleeping and we swapped months ago

browneyedgirl86 · 18/09/2014 17:18

We have sides. I have left and DP has right. Always been like that. If the cats join us even they have a side. (Unless it's my male cat, his "side" is firmly in the centre of the bed!!

Momagain1 · 18/09/2014 17:21

From the point of view of laying in bed, i have to be on the right. Which, unfortunately in this new house, means he is sleeping about a foit from the radiator, so either the room is gonna be cold, or he is gonna be too man sweaty to bear sleeping beside. given his height and my width, we have a kingsize bed so this is the only way the bed fits in the room. Seriously considering getting someone to come in and move the radiator. Or putting our son in the room with en suite and taking the ginormous back bedroom. Why the previous owner added an (airplane toilet sized) en suite to the small bedroom rather than the large one i do not understand.

DorisIsALittleBitPartial · 18/09/2014 17:23

I swapped sides with DH when an injured rib meant he couldn't turn over.
Then fell out of bed in the middle of the night Blush
DH nearly ruptured another rib laughing at me

PrettyPictures92 · 18/09/2014 18:33

You only get one side? takes up whole bed cause there's no one to share it with

BoiledPiss · 18/09/2014 18:42

I sleep furthest away from the door so the baddies get to DH first...Confused

GuybrushThreepwoodMP · 18/09/2014 18:47

I remember on our first date when we got into bed (no judging please) I asked him "Do you have a side?" He said no so I picked one and we haven't changed since!

bookmole · 18/09/2014 20:26

We have sides. Mine is the left, which has, in the four houses we have lived in together, makes twice I slept nearest the door, twice furthest away. Although in one house, we moved the bed from one side of the room to the other, so I was both nearest and furthest away from the door.

It's the practical difficulties - we have our own stuff on our side of the bed.

I do like it when he's not here, and I can roll from the hot side of the bed to the cold side...

I also cannot - unless I absolutely have to - be on the driver's side of a car. I have never driven, and cannot bear how the seatbelt falls when I am on the driver's side.

ChrisMooseAlbanians · 18/09/2014 21:21

Swapping sides? He is BVU. A side is a side.
My DP gave up his side of the bed when i went over to visit and never left and I have slept on the left hand side ever since. I had to sleep on the other side for two nights when I had my ribs tattooed and it was WRONG. If the dog is in with us DP gets shunted to the remaining inch of the bed Grin
Although when he is away I starfish. Right in the middle.
When we DTD, it is done on my side of the bed. Which means I am always, without fail, left laying in the wet patch Angry

musketeersmama · 18/09/2014 21:57

Erm, melaniecheeks what on earth is a 'penis beaker'??? My mind boggles...

MiniLop · 18/09/2014 22:02

We definitely have 'sides' in our bed! The only times we ever swap is if DH gets up early for a wee, he'll come back into bed on my side (nearest the door) just until we both get up, or if we both really can't sleep - weirdly, swapping sides seems to work!
Other than that, we never swap sides. It feels weird!

MrsWinnibago · 18/09/2014 22:16

Guy that was very formal of you since you were shagging on the first date! Grin Did you clean your teeth first? And put the cat out?

ScarlettlovesRhett · 18/09/2014 22:16

I am always nearest the door. Can be either side but has to be near the door (for fire purposes and hearing kids in danger or strangers creeping up the stairs and many, many other anxious reasons).

I am the same as PP in restaurants etc, I cannot sit with my back to a room - I have to be able to see all around.

ThatBloodyWoman · 18/09/2014 22:19

Bless dh -when we moved the bed round he wanted to change sides so he was nearest the door, so that he could protect me if there was an intruder.
Obviously I declined since I know there's a broken slat on his side.

heartshapedflux · 18/09/2014 22:22

I've always slept on the left, regardless of where the bed is positioned in the room and regardless of whom I've shared a bed with. I even sleep on the left when I'm on my own! I've never really thought about why before but I guess it's a combination of the fact I usually sleep on my left hand side, so I feel it gives me more space and the fact I'm left handed so it's easier for me to reach out and get my glass of water / phone, etc. In my current home it definitely makes sense as the left is nearer the door whereas the right is up against the wall and I always need the loo in the night, whereas DH doesn't.

heartshapedflux · 18/09/2014 22:24

musketeersmama how could you not have heard of the penis beaker??! Grin

woollyjo · 18/09/2014 22:26

I have to be on my side or I'd get breathed on all night

heartshapedflux · 18/09/2014 22:27

I also cannot - unless I absolutely have to - be on the driver's side of a car. I have never driven, and cannot bear how the seatbelt falls when I am on the driver's side.

I'm exactly the same, I can't bear to be behind the driver because of the seatbelt either!

TheStorySoFar · 18/09/2014 22:34

He is.

Gruntfuttock · 18/09/2014 22:43

I sleep on the left of the bed but I'm not intransigent about it. If my husband wanted to change sides it wouldn't bother me at all, why would it?
Confused

Teddybeau1988 · 18/09/2014 22:52

When I was heavily pregnant with DS we had to alternate side each night as laying on one side would kill my hips and pelvis.

DH

Teddybeau1988 · 18/09/2014 22:53

Sent too early

DH really struggled on the wrong side to sleep properly

Tommy · 18/09/2014 22:55

DH and have our own sides but sleep with our backs to each other. One night we decided to swap sides so we would end up sleeping facing each other as we thought it would be more romantic Hmm

It was just plain weird - went straight back to unromantic back to back sleeping Grin

MargotLovedTom · 18/09/2014 23:01

Haven't read all the posts so this may have been mentioned, but I'm sure I've read in the past that traditionally men would sleep on the right as most people are right handed so it would make it easier for them to grab their sword or weapon from the side of the bed if needed in case of attack.

DH sleeps right and I have the left. This never changes and we sleep like this on holiday too.
