To think you get "a side" in bed and that's that? There's no changing?

DH thinks that you can opt for either side.

Who is being unreasonable?

I agree. No swapping sides. Unless it is a permanent swap that you'd is uss and agree to. I need my side table covered in crap for a start!

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 18/09/2014 09:59

I'm left of centre DH is right of centre. This applies to our politics as well as to our bed! We moved bedrooms from the back bedroom to the front bedroom. I'm still on the left and DH is still on the right. That means he used to be closer to the window but now I am and I used to be closer to the door and now he is. I used to be marginally closer to the kids and now he is marginally closer. Interesting.

Wellwellwell3holesintheground · 18/09/2014 10:19

Left from when you're sitting in the bed or left looking at the bed from the foot?

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 18/09/2014 10:22

Left from lying on it.

MrsWinnibago · 18/09/2014 10:23

I think most women sleep on the left. Also, the mattress is affected by your own body isn't it? I don't want to lie in his dip!

FriendlyLadybird · 18/09/2014 10:24

You are right. He is wrong. You start swapping sides and who knows where it will end?

MrsWinnibago · 18/09/2014 10:29

That's right! He might start cross dressing or summat.

Dh is another that clings to the matttress im always nearset the window dh near the door when the bed was next to wall he had the wall side so i didnt need to climb over him in the middle of night plus he wouldnt fall out of bed

starsandunicorns · 18/09/2014 10:32

Dh is another matterss clinger

starsandunicorns · 18/09/2014 10:33

Ooh sorry it did post first time

MaidOfStars · 18/09/2014 10:42

I always have whichever side is furthest from the door. I don't mind if that puts me up against the wall - it's quite reassuring to lean against it and know you're not going to fall. I wouldn't be keen on swapping sides - my bedside bookcase has all my lotions/potions/puzzle books/current crochet project/books stashed in it.

Also when sitting in restaurants, I'm not happy unless I'm sitting with my back to a wall. It drives my DH mad
It is customary to offer dinner guests the best seat. As traditionally, women would be the guests, and the best seats are considered to be those facing the social action, this results in the lady facing the room. It is an etiquette rule I have successfully drummed into my husband.

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/09/2014 10:43

Maid

I am so drumming that into him. He says I'm socially awkward and demanding, I can now rebuff this by saying it is etiquette. Thanks! Grin

Poledra · 18/09/2014 10:44

We have swapped a few times through the years. I used to sleep on the LHS, nearest the wall, as I went to bed before DH and hated him climbing over me to get to bed. Moved to a new house where the bed wasn't against the wall, I stayed on the left until some medical issues meant DH (genuinely!) had to sleep on his left side, so we swapped (both prefer to face out of the bed when we drop off). We've stayed like that for 10 years now Grin

We have two sofas in the living room and my sofa is the one with the standard lamp behind it, as I cannot read or sew without the light over my shoulder. No we have two cats, that sofa is mine and SmoothCat's and the other (darker) sofa is Dh and FluffyCat's. The DCs have to take their chances...

MaidOfStars · 18/09/2014 10:45

...to the point where he has shared his 'superior' table manners with waiters who have guided me to the 'wrong' chair.

Next lesson: being graceful and discreet with ones serving staff Wink

MaidOfStars · 18/09/2014 10:48

Ali (sorry if that's not an appropriate shortening, but I can't figure the breaks in your moniker) I think the rule featured in a Jilly Cooper book, so must be the height of good manners Grin

hellsbellsmelons · 18/09/2014 10:59

OMG LuisSuarez me too.
I have to be closest to an escape so nearest the door - always!!

My OH is having probs sleeping right now so I might suggest we swap sides and see if that helps him at all!

MrsWinnibago · 18/09/2014 11:00

Maid I called someone Whore last night on here. Blush but it was in their name! I should have picked the other word I suppose....

MrsW, you probably have a great knack for sleeping / snuggling under the duvet that is making your side look really good. So whichever side your dh is on he thinks... "I wish I had Mrs W's side... it looks so good"

lynniep · 18/09/2014 11:14

NO NO NO no side swapping.
DH insisted he take 'my side' after we were burgled last year. I HATED it but I understand why he felt the need to be nearest the door so I went with it.
I still hate being on the 'wrong' side though...

starfishmummy · 18/09/2014 11:17

At home we stick to the same side and if we can we do the same on holiday.
But sometimes we change if the access is awkward - because I am most likely to get up in the night and don't want to have to climb over dh

OnlyLovers · 18/09/2014 11:30

Rotate? Confused What madness is this? Pick a side and stick with it, I say.

Having said that, DP is more demanding than I am in this respect. At home he's on my right-hand side. On holiday I've been known to take the other side, oblivious, but he always makes me change.

BabyMarmoset · 18/09/2014 11:34

I'd sooner swap husband than swap sides.

Some things are sacred.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 18/09/2014 11:35

Left hand side for me including hotels Grin definitely none of this switching malarkey.

Christinecagney · 18/09/2014 12:23

Right hand side for me. DH on my left.
