To think you get "a side" in bed and that's that? There's no changing?

DH thinks that you can opt for either side.

Who is being unreasonable?

We don't change sides either. I can't sleep on the other side anyway.

HSMMaCM · 18/09/2014 23:16

DH swapped with me on holiday once and I fell out of bed. He's never tried it since Grin

TheWholeOfTheSpoon · 19/09/2014 01:02

I always sleep closest to the door. I don't know why. Apparently I'm a closet bolter!

Sapat · 19/09/2014 01:27

At home we sleep on the same side, but when away we sometimes swap. There is no fast rule. I don't like him nicking my pillow though, no swaps allowed (he also has sweaty man head problem as pp).

Mandatorymongoose · 19/09/2014 01:54

Due to the invasion of our bed by a toddler and DH being a bit of an insomniac at the moment, I ended up on his side the other night and him on mine. Freaked me out when I woke up, I had that horrible 'where the hell am I? ' feeling.

ILoveTurnips · 19/09/2014 01:59

Opting for either side !!! Shock I don't think so Angry

I sleep on my side regardless of whether DH is at home or not and regardless of where I am sleeping. I do prefer the side furthest away from the door though so very occasionally in a hotel I might or for the wrong side but it feels strange.

poisonedbypen · 19/09/2014 02:49

You can swap? Bumbles off shaking head & muttering...

Andrewofgg · 19/09/2014 03:40

DW is of the leftie tendency. Anywhere and everywhere. It has never bothered me.

HampshireBoy · 19/09/2014 09:15

When first married my ExW always had to sleep nearest the window, which settled into her sleeping on the left. She has stuck with that through several houses and various holidays now, even if that means not sleeping nearest the window, and even though she is on her own now still sticks to that side. Each girlfriend I've had seems to have a side they insist on, my current one sleeps on the right. TBH it doesn't bother me, unless they have to climb over me to get in and out Wink

When on my own I'll fidget all over the bed until I find my position for that night, which might well be in the middle or diagonal; sharply positioned elbows seem to stop me doing that with someone else in the bed though. Smile

MrsPnut · 19/09/2014 09:20

I always have the side closest to the door, so when we move our bed round to a different wall then I had to swap from one side of the bed to the other.

Hoppinggreen · 19/09/2014 09:24

NO!!!
Man sleep nearest cave door to defend from sabre tooth tigers and bears, everyone knows that.

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 19/09/2014 15:02

I always have the left side of any bed as you lie in it and DH the right. Have done so for 29 years. When DH is away I do find myself lying diagonally across the whole bed.

JennySense · 19/09/2014 16:01

When DH moved in, he just announced which he side was going to be....

Dizzywizz · 19/09/2014 16:07

I normally sleep closest to the door cos dh likes to be furthest away, but when there is a baby in with us I sleep in the other side as its next to the cot. But I wouldn't swop nightly, that's just weird!

autumnboys · 19/09/2014 17:03

We have our own side and stick to it whenever and wherever we sleep. For the first fifteen years I slept on the left hand side of the bed, both at home and away. 5 years ago, we moved house when I was pregnant and decided that once the baby came, we would need the crib on the right hand side of the bed, so we swapped when we moved. It was really, really hard to get used to. It freaked out the children we already had. We're all used to it now though.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 19/09/2014 17:11

Since DCs came along I have always slept nearest the door to the landing so I can get to the DCs quickly.

We swapped sides when I was pregnant 12 years ago. I wanted to sleep on my left side. I cannot abide sleeping facing the middle dh and so in orde for me to be able to face out we switched.

Never went back.

Prob never will.

mjmooseface · 19/09/2014 18:00

We created a sort of triple bed comprising a double and a single pushed together! Husband gets the double cos he's much taller than me but I get a super soft foam mattress for my side! It works for us, having our own side and space but still being close. We even have our own quilts to prevent hogging! It's so nice. We both sleep so well! Something that is especially important to the Husband. It's funny. You spend years sleeping in your own bed and then just because you're in a relationship with someone/living with someone/married etc, you suddenly sleep in the same bed? lol

And we sit on the same side of the sofa, too! But that's mainly because Husband is a gamer and has his rig all set up especially. The other side of the sofa is just as good for me!

Hushabyelullaby · 19/09/2014 18:02

I always sleep on the left hand side (as you're in it), even if we go away it stays as the left, despite where it is nearest to etc.

We don't have our own side of the sofa, we have our own sofa's (we have two 2 seaters). It irrationally annoys me that DH always sits on the same side of the sofa, as that side is well worn and the other side is unmarked/creased (they're leather so one side is still taught, high and looks good and the worn side is much lower and wrinkled). I think maybe IABU, but I can't help alternating seats on 'my' sofa so they wear at the same pace.

MrsWinnibago · 19/09/2014 19:25

OP here. I KNEW he was up to something. Last night I came to bed and he was ON MY SIDE!

I shunted him over pretty fast...I had the might of MN behind me after all!

OP posts:
FamiliesShareGerms · 19/09/2014 19:57

I can sleep either side, DH can't even contemplate swapping. But we have to have our own pillows, that's completely agreed.

All the pp who are on the same side for everything, even photos - are you Ant and Dec? Grin

Jennifer11 · 19/09/2014 20:08

MelanieCheeks - penis beaker? Am I missing something here? :)

Groovee · 19/09/2014 20:11

We changed sides when I had an accident and dh's side had a bigger space for me to get up. But it continued to my pregnancy and the night dd came home with me, he claimed his side back!

KarenMFLP · 19/09/2014 20:29

Just furthest from the door. that is all. He can die first.
