Do you shower every day?

The thread about taking an hour made me wonder.

In the morning I:

Clean teeth and listerine (10 mins)

Shower including hair wash with conditioner and shave legs and armpits every other day (10 mins)

Dry and straighten hair (10 mins)

Makeup, dress, earrings and other accessories (10 mins)

I can cut this down but I dawdle and make cups of tea, watch tv in between so yeah about an hour. But some people seem to just wash?

So what is the average?

Quick "swill off" we seem to call it, is a shower without washing hair or doing any other stuff, literally takes 2 mins and 2 mins drying time, I do this each morning unless I know I'm doing something mucky and then I'll just do it after that.

If I wash hair its an extra 4 or 5 mins in the shower, drying time (5 mins?) and I will run GHD's through it (on an angle! for loose curls!) and I do this two or 3 times a week.

Makeup I have down to about a minute - swish over with powder stuff, quick blush, eyebrows, that's it. I tend to have an eyelash treatment that lifts and dyes the feckers every 6 weeks so they look as I want them to without trying.

I don't shave, I have lasered off stuff I don't want.

If I shower the night before I can be up and out in 10 minutes (think school run)

Teeth take about 3 minutes, I use floss and/or interdental brush things (addictive! tried em?) every couple of days. Listerine makes my inner cheeks peel in a most troublesome way.

Get up and shower and wash hair, use razor if needed under arms on legs.

DH has made tea and toast while I am in shower. I sit in bed with my tea and toast and do my make up and dry and style my hair. DH sits on the bed and has his tea and toast and we chat.

Deodorant, body lotion, perfume.

Clean and waterpik teeth, mouthwash.

Dress

Feed cats

Potter on throughout- check news on Ipad, might send an email.

Takes about an hour.

Shower or bath most nights, clean teeth, body lotion.

Yes, I shower every morning. However, I can't get up and get straight on with it. I need to make tea, feed pets, go for a poo. So that might take half an hour. Then dd needs to be in the bathroom 7.30 - 7.45. Often dh needs a shower after that and leaves for work at 8.30/8.45ish, ds needs to fit in wash face and hands and brush teeth around that. So I get in the shower 8.45/9 most mornings. Thank goodness for my mostly working from home job.

Oh how I smile and look back fondly on my childfree days when I got up at 7.30 and left the house at 8.20 in full make up, everything ironed, not having had to make packed lunches and find everyone else's stuff from pants to bus pass!

Mintyy · 26/08/2014 22:36

LuluJakey1 - and what do your children do in this time?

ColdTeaAgain · 26/08/2014 22:40

Agree with Sugar in that a lot of us are doing more harm than good with over cleansing our skin. Would we need to use moisturiser if we weren't drying our skin out with soap in the first place?

Normally I have a shower or bath every second or third day. I only wash my hair on these days too. My hair really only starts to get a bit greasy after 4 days but it only gets left that long if I'm ill and can't be bothered! The days in between I just have a wash. But different skin types have different needs. DP has to shower and wash his hair every day or he'd look like an oil slick.

Shinyshoes2 · 26/08/2014 22:42

Im quite sweaty so I feel I need to shower daily,.. Plus if I don't shower daily by day 2 I'm stinking of B.O.
I shower about 3 mins do the nessacerey face , pits and a quick all over with the soap rinsing as I'm going
Dampen hair add conditioner whilst damp, wrap in turban if too wet.
Wrap towel around body , brush teeth . (2-3 mins) by that time my body and hair are dry.
Deodorant
Dressed, sometimes apply lipgloss
Out of house in say 20 minutes

Just to add.. I'm following the curly girl method so don't wash my hair only condition
I wash my hair about every 3 weeks
Add on 10 minutes if I'm waging and brushing hair

Sallyingforth · 26/08/2014 22:44

I have a shower every night, with hair washed only on alternate nights.

Shower in the morning if there's been carnal activity overnight.

Mintyy · 26/08/2014 22:44

I refuse to shower until I've had my morning constitutional Smile.

Yes. Every night.

ColdTeaAgain · 26/08/2014 22:46

God yes, definitely shower after carnal activity! Grin

MardyBra · 26/08/2014 22:46

I have two things to say.

  1. This isn't an Aibu.
  1. Doesn't anyone else have a dumpy after breakfast? Takes me a good 10 mins especially if I take the ipad in and MN.
MardyBra · 26/08/2014 22:47

Ffs.

Dump
and strikeout fail.

LuluJakey1 · 26/08/2014 22:50

Minty Don't have any yet. Am 21 weeks pregnant- will be interesting to see how it changes the routine Grin

I am presuming DS will sleep soundly until I have gone through my morning ablutions. Grin

bluesbaby · 26/08/2014 22:51

Depends. Not dealing well with mornings at the moment, so about 15 minutes. Hop in the bathroom, toilet, brush teeth, wash face - 3-5 minutes altogether. Select clothes - 1 minute. Put clothes on - 30 seconds. Put jewellery on - 1 minute. Make my face - 7 minutes. Shoes on - 20 seconds. Grab handbag, take vitamins, grab lunchbox, lock house up - 1m30s.

bluesbaby · 26/08/2014 22:53

Oh and yes I shower everyday. In the evening. I have such thick hair it takes 20 minutes to blowdry and at the moment it's only shoulder length. It used to be much longer. It takes ages to rinse the suds out - a good 4 minutes while I soap up everywhere else. A shower including hair washing and shaving is probably 15 minutes for me. I'm hairy. Sad

Mintyy · 26/08/2014 22:53

Of course he will Lulu Grin, and in the 10 hours preceding. You will be as well turned out as ever from Day 1!

Hakluyt · 26/08/2014 22:55

"why? dont be lazy. google it, plenty of evidence out there against daily showering.

most sources recommend 2-3 times a week."

Had a quick google- couldn't seem to find any "sources" that weren't also bonkerd people........

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 26/08/2014 22:56

15 mins to shower and dress here. I'm obviously odd. But if I want to shave legs it'd be an extra 5 but as I'm single and wearing jeans and fair haired I do it weekly. Only wear mascara which I put on in the car after school/playscheme drop off. I have a bob and it can settle nicely even if I leave with wet hair. Mind boggles at an hour, I never clicked on that thread.

Passmethecrisps · 26/08/2014 22:59

Fascinating!

I rarely blow dry my hair nowadays. Despite it being fine there is lots of it and it takes an age. I wash, towel it and leave it loose until I get to work which is often more than two hours after I washed it so it is almost dry by then. Stick it in a pony tail and done.

I reckon I am ready. (Shower, makeup and dressed) in 15 minutes. Then I wake toddler. We are ready to go within 45 minutes if we need to but we use the time to have a more relaxed morning instead. One of us leaves at 7:30 and the other 7:45 depending on CM/nursery drop off. We wake up at 6:30

sweetkitty · 26/08/2014 22:59

Right I didn't have a shower this morning as I was planning to dye my hair ( didn't get round to it until tonight) anyway last shower was yesterday morning.

My hair was lank and greasy and a bit itchy and I was definitely whiffy in the fanjo area.
