DH got a delivery this morning....

My DD2 is a nightmare. She screams and cries if I put her in the pram, she's impossible to pacify in a restaurant or shopping etc...

So DH says this is the solution.

She's been quiet for 15 minutes!!!!

What is it?

Am I the only one that finds this a tad unnecessary?? Electronics everywhere. OP I'm not knocking you if you've been at your wits end with transporting LO around but screens in buggies, cars, devices at restaurant tables..... I just don't get it.

If I would have seen this with DD1, I would have laughed.

DD2 can be.... A challenge.

I can see it's helping you but I'm another that doesn't like it. iPads have got their place for keeping kids entertained but I think getting pushed in a buggy watching peppa pig is a bit, well wrong. How have we managed for years without this?!

I think YABU. And that this is a terrible invention.

Isn't it recommended that children under two have zero screen time?

I know I'm going to get flamed because I have no kids, but I don't care.

Lets see how you manage that if you have kids. (Especially difficult ones!) That's on a par with 'I'm going to feed my child only organic lentils grown on a magic farm.'

It's a good idea, you can't judge really unless you've been pushed to the edge with your DC. I'm sure someone will be along to day 'well I was awake for 8 years straight and they tantrummed constantly for 4 of those years and I never gave them more than 3 seconds if screen time and that was one of those recorded billboard adverts...' Nah. I hardly think the OP is suggesting she's going to leave her DD in there for 20 hours a day, so why not? I bet it'd be useful at a restaurant.

Any reason why you couldn't just put her in a sling for shopping etc? How old is she?

Also hate this idea. I can imagine that once a toddler has watch an iPad a couple of times in a buggy they'll scream even more once the iPad goes! Rod for your own back etcetera.

How about an apple to munch, talking to your child, singing, letting them play with a toy..?!

I admit we had a portable DVD player in the car for Dd when she was little as we had to make frequent 6 hour journeys across the country to see poorly MIL. It was absolutely fantastic!

My now 5 yo has her own iPad mini, which she's designing dresses on now whilst I MN next to her in bed.

But at 2, she had had zero screen time, yes.

I'm not saying that's easy with every child. But let's not knock the possibility.

Pram hood with iPad occasionally - fine. All the time - awful.

Wow poppy... Talking to my child?! Singing to her?? I can't believe I didn't think of doing that... Why have I let her scream for 14 months without even bothering to give her a toy??!

And it is an occasional pram. It's for our holiday. (For which I think it's an absolutely fantastic invention )

Sorry, I do know how hard it can be to manage toddlers. But I think an iPad is a bit... Giving up?

And actually it's not that weird to not allow under 2's screen time (or very limited time if they have older siblings).

This to me is like the iPad potty, technology going too far.

I can understand why some parents find it useful BUT still don't agree with it.

Isn't this just making a rod for your own back- presumably, unless the ipad is on the whole time she is in the buggy, she'll scream the place down when she's put in it and the ipad is off?

Do you really want her to be watching an ipad the whole time she's in a buggy?

I can understand those screen things in cars on long distance but you wouldn't use them in a car when popping to the shops.

Fabulous. Ignore the detractors. No one who can research and find a buggy with this innovation out of sheer desperation is a bad mother in my book

I've been there with the hellish child BTW, and I know that this would probably have made life easier in the short term. However, at nearly 4 we are having problems with screen time. It's limited, but she has huge screaming meltdowns when she can't watch what she wants, and completely zones out when she is watching tv. I do feel that screen exposure at a younger age and in this way would only have made things worse...

I'm not judging you for giving it a go, I'm just not sure that you're doing yourself any favours in the long run. A sling on my back sorted a lot of problems, and then like a pp said, crayons, an apple, a new toy for restaurants

I think the point is that most parents resort to this after they have tried the sling/toys/flashcards/sing-a-long/walks in the country and are ready to explode from exhaustion and frustration.

I didn't have an iPad but my DD used to love Zingzillas when she was about 1 and it was the only time I got to go and make a cuppa without her screaming. I think you have to weigh up the effect that has on the parent and have some kind of balance.

My judgy pants would be on if I saw this.

Ask yourself why she loves the ipad so much.
