DH got a delivery this morning....

My DD2 is a nightmare. She screams and cries if I put her in the pram, she's impossible to pacify in a restaurant or shopping etc...

So DH says this is the solution.

She's been quiet for 15 minutes!!!! Shock

To love this buggy!

iPads are new things. We all learnt the alphabet and sounds prior to it's invention. Lets not pretend it's some necessary educational tool because it isn't.

curiousgeorgie · 23/08/2014 12:45

I'm well aware of how this works... I've only been annoyed at being called a liar when previous posts are easily searchable. It's a debate.

Equally, if someone says I'm being unreasonable should I just say 'okay then.'

Yabu. By all means show dc a couple of relaxing clips on your iPad but popping her in her own baby media hub bubble seems unhealthy. You did ask so don't be surprised that people are not as keen as yourself.

FlipFlippingFlippers · 23/08/2014 12:50

Justify your parenting decisions with misinformation. Fine by me. The World health organisation have updated their guidelines to include no screen time for under 2's after extensive scientific research. Just FYI.

curiousgeorgie · 23/08/2014 12:50

Nick - I totally disagree with you. I think tablets are necessary. The world moves on and they are widely used now, my DD's school do 2 lessons on them a week, and will do more as she gets older.

Just because we have been able to do without something doesn't mean we shouldn't have it. You have legs so why bother inventing a car. We can work out sums on paper so why invent a calculator...

Please state exactly where I called you a liar OP?

I questioned if it really was just for a holiday and said only you know if that's true.

That's not calling you a liar- simply questioning why you originally omitted to mention the sole purpose you then said it was bought for.

You have back tracked all the way through this thread to justify yourself when not everyone agreed with you.

You never mentioned a holiday, then it was for evenings and possibly queues, now it's just while you have dinner.

Why bother asking if you were BU is you're so convinced you're right anyway Hmm

curiousgeorgie · 23/08/2014 12:52

And Nick, we might all learn things, but do most 2 year olds know the alphabet and numbers up to 40? Because mine could.

OP posts:
curiousgeorgie · 23/08/2014 12:53

Bearbehind, I haven't backtracked at all. It is for a holiday, but I was writing in general about it being a lifesaver. I haven't said anything else.

OP posts:
curiousgeorgie · 23/08/2014 12:54

Dinner was an example, I also said I'll probably use it for 14 days straight. I like it, I don't think it's damaging. I wouldn't use it in daily life because I love my bugaboo and my older DD needs the board.

Bearbehind · 23/08/2014 12:55

I've only been annoyed at being called a liar when previous posts are easily searchable

a) I never called you a liar

B) I never suggested you weren't going on holiday

c) no one cares enough to research your life history on other posts in order to verify facts on this thread

curiousgeorgie · 23/08/2014 12:57

If you care enough to insinuate that I'm lying, then care enough to check that you're wrong.

"Well DD1 used to play with the iPad in restaurants all the time, and she is amazing and incredibly bright and forward for her age. So, with respect, I disagree."

All children on MN are incredibly bright though.

Bearbehind · 23/08/2014 13:00

Really OP, give it up, I never called you a liar FFS.

If you'd started the thread by saying you'd bought the buggy to use on a 2 week holiday I doubt anyone would have said you were BU.

You didn't- you said your daughter was a nightmare but had been in it for 15 minutes already and was quiet and your DH said it's the solution to your shopping/ eating out problems.

You've changed your story to respond to those who don't agree with you.

chubbyhez · 23/08/2014 13:03

how old is your eldest?

curiousgeorgie · 23/08/2014 13:04

I didn't change my story. My OP was about the pram being great. Not what I intended to use it for. My examples of shopping and restaurants were to highlight that my DD is hard work.

But you knew that.

And Fairy, my daughter is bright, she's very forward, I'm sure a lot of people say that but she is. She goes to be assessed regularly as she's very behind physically (due to severe hypermobility) and cognitively, she's off the scale. It isn't just my opinion.

OP posts:
curiousgeorgie · 23/08/2014 13:05

Chubby she'll be 4 when we go away in a few weeks.

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 23/08/2014 13:06

Oh please! Your child is not bright purely because of an iPad! Surely you would want to take the credit for that rather than praise Apple?!

chubbyhez · 23/08/2014 13:07

So she's 3? And does 2 lessons a week on a tablet at school?

curiousgeorgie · 23/08/2014 13:07

I didn't say it was just because of an iPad, but I completely believe that it helps. I didn't start teaching her the alphabet as it didn't occur to me. We were doing colours and basic words, so I actually think apple can take the credit for that Smile

OP posts:
curiousgeorgie · 23/08/2014 13:08

Chubby, yes at her preschool attached to a school. Every child there does.

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 23/08/2014 13:09

And let's face it, many children struggle with maths because we aren't going back to basics and are using calculators/tablets to work out the answer.

chubbyhez · 23/08/2014 13:10

So what kind of lessons does a class of 3 year old children do on a tablet, twice a week?

Aeroflotgirl · 23/08/2014 13:10

It depends, koala you don't have kids so you probably aren't fully aware! In moderation, if you need to cook, or calm a colicky baby fine, but not to stuck them in a buggy with the I pad and fir get about them.

curiousgeorgie · 23/08/2014 13:13

They use apps, they draw, they film each other.

Shall I just send you a link to the apple store? Are you interested in any particular features or are you trying to say I'm lying, because it's true. Lots of schools do it actually.

OP posts:
Aeroflotgirl · 23/08/2014 13:13

There are so many educational tools on tge I pad. My dd Autistic school uses them as part of learning. My dd learned to read using a reading app on the I pad, she is Autistic and visual learner, the programmes are fun and exciting and keep her attention. There is even a social story app and an app on emotions.
