AIBU to not want dogs pissing on my new wall?

I'll caveat this by saying I am not a dog owner.

We have had a lovely white rendered wall built in our front garden. I cannot tell you how many dog owners I have seen pause at our wall to all their dogs to cock a leg and piss down it. Which is leaving marks! It is not rocket science that if you pour yellow piss down a white wall it will stain.

AIBU for this to piss me off? I'm not blaming the dogs, but couldn't the owners tug them on! It's getting to the stage I thinking of putting up a sign or banging on the window when I see it!

To allow their dogs, not all their dogs. Sorry

Paint the fence yellow

Meeeep · 02/06/2014 08:56
Hmm

I presume this wall separates your garden from the main road. If that is the case YABU and there is absolutely jack shit you can do about it.

If you banged on the window at me I'd probably think you were crazy but it wouldn't stop my dog peeing on your wall. Dragging a dog away mid flow will not end well for anyone.

PorkPieandPickle · 02/06/2014 08:58

YANBU to dislike it, but I don't see what you could do about it without looking like a crazy dog hater.

(But I secretly wouldn't like it either)

JoeyMaynardsghost · 02/06/2014 09:01

Sadly if you put up a sign or bang on the window you're likely to be targetted for worse than dog wee.

I think I would invest in a dog repellent so the dog doesn't want to linger.

Xihha · 02/06/2014 09:02

yanbu to be annoyed by it but i'm pretty sure my dog takes nice new walls as a challenge, I do try to pull him away but as Meeeep said dragging a dog away mid-flow doesn't end well. they just carry on pissing which then gets on your shoes and creates a puddle across the pavement.

WorraLiberty · 02/06/2014 09:05

I know it's always nice when you get something new but seriously this is an outside wall and you're in danger of coming across as 'that strange woman' Grin

The woman down the road to me got a new, normal run of the mill fence and I shit you not, for the first few weeks she used to actually chase the birds off of it Shock

Georgethesecond · 02/06/2014 09:06

Digs piss on walls. That's just how it is. Maybe try a dark cream paint that will show marks less?

uptheauntie · 02/06/2014 09:07

It is a wall that separates my garden from the pavement. What I should have said was that there is a large post at the end of the wall where the entrance to my drive is. They tend to favour the post and want into my drive to piss all over the wall post.

Surely it is pretty obvious when your dog cocks it's leg what it is about to do? And if it stops at the same wall about twice a day, it is quite predictable what will happen, so perhaps encourage it on.

But course, better a strangers wall gets stained than the dog owners shoes....

Meeeep · 02/06/2014 09:07

Actually it's a good point about dog repellent, they hate chilli powder so you could put some of that along the bottom of the wall.

uptheauntie · 02/06/2014 09:08

I'm not quite as bad as the bird fence lady yet! Birds are wild animals! Mind you some sort of motion activated sprinkler could work a treat......

OP posts:
Meeeep · 02/06/2014 09:09

Well TBF if everyone had that attitude where in the hell would dog's pee?

It's just part of life OP sorry to say but suck it up (and try the chilli powder)

Oh and yes, I would much rather a wall on a public footpath was stained than my lovely shoes.

riskit4abiskit · 02/06/2014 09:09

For your own sanity please paint the wall a darker colour.

uptheauntie · 02/06/2014 09:11

Meeep, that is the selfish attitude that gives dog owners a bad name. I hope the same doesn't apply to their shit.

ManchesterAunt · 02/06/2014 09:11

Yes, try pet away spray from pets at home. But beware any strong smell might encourage them to wee more.

But dogs piss where they piss.

uptheauntie · 02/06/2014 09:13

I'll defo get some repellent. And be sure to be out spraying it at the time the dog walkers are out. Allowing their dogs to wander into my drive and piss.

ouryve · 02/06/2014 09:16

Once one dog's marked the area, they all want to. Try spraying periodically with white vinegar, to neutralise any smells and deter all the neighbourhood dogs from joining in. If that or a dog repellant doesn't work, then you probably need to reconsider what colour you have the wall painted so that the urine stains are less obvious.

ouryve · 02/06/2014 09:16

And get a gate on the end of your drive.

UterusUterusGhali · 02/06/2014 09:18

Can you put some plant pots on your side and flop some trailing plants over?

calmet · 02/06/2014 09:18

I used to try and stop my dog peeing on people's walls and posts. It is very hard though. If dogs have already peed somewhere, other dogs want to mark it. I used to spend a 5 minute walk to the park, pulling my dog away from nearly every wall. It is not just anticipating one post on a walk, it really does require constant vigilence.

Meeeep · 02/06/2014 09:19

I have always picked up dog poo. I don't see how anyone can stop a dog from peeing on a wall on a public footpath. I don't think it's selfish it's nature. And seriously who wants per on their shoes, that is not a better option IMHO

Meeeep · 02/06/2014 09:20

Oh and the owners are out of order for letting their dogs onto your drive.

uptheauntie · 02/06/2014 09:20

Ouryve, gate is being made at the mo. Primarily to keep my dd in. Shame I need one as dog owners won't keep their dog out my property though.

OP posts:
PorkPieandPickle · 02/06/2014 09:24

It might be a public footpath, but it's a privately owner wall, and the OP is entitled to be annoyed, I imagine she paid more for her wall than you did for your shoes!!!

MostlyMama · 02/06/2014 09:27

Sadly if you put up a sign or bang on the window you're likely to be targetted for worse than dog wee.

...annnd those are the people who shouldn't be allowed to own animals.
