AIBU to not want dogs pissing on my new wall?

I'll caveat this by saying I am not a dog owner.

We have had a lovely white rendered wall built in our front garden. I cannot tell you how many dog owners I have seen pause at our wall to all their dogs to cock a leg and piss down it. Which is leaving marks! It is not rocket science that if you pour yellow piss down a white wall it will stain.

AIBU for this to piss me off? I'm not blaming the dogs, but couldn't the owners tug them on! It's getting to the stage I thinking of putting up a sign or banging on the window when I see it!

I've only ever owned bitches so managed to avoid all the leg cocking (not the lawn burn though!)

I'm not sure how easy it actually is to control though. I see lots of dogs out and about and they do seem to just lift their leg every minute.

We have a white wall too but to be honest I don't spend much time standing across the road looking into my house so it doesn't worry me.

pianodoodle · 03/06/2014 10:38

Apparently dogs can pick up loads of information from the smell of another dog's wee. That's pretty cool.

I'd guess when they see something new they want to be one of the first to put their stamp on it.

LtEveDallas · 03/06/2014 10:46

Pianodoodle, to avoid lawn burn stir a desert spoon of Tomato Ketchup into your bitches food - works like magic Smile

uptheauntie · 03/06/2014 11:10

If it was a new car parked on the road that was getting pissed on several times a day would it be okay, or is it because it is a wall dogs owners let the dogs do whatever. Oh never mind, most dog owners either don't care or cannot control their dogs.

YABU.

Yes to what Ithaka said.
My neighbour got into a tizz about a very minor thing similar to this. The end result is no one in our little street talks to him anymore and he has to go to the parcel depot A LOT.

I think most people have agreed that it's bad form if dog owners are allowing their dogs to stray onto your private property - no one is condoning that. TBH I find it quite odd that so many are detouring into your drive to pee - in my 40-odd years of dog ownership, most of which has involved at least some walking on pavements and getting to know a large number of other dog walkers, I can count on the fingers of one hand how many times I've seen that happen without the dog being immediately pulled away before it's even had a chance to start peeing (they tend to have a bit of a sniff first, especially if it's 'calling card' peeing rather than 'desperate for a piss' peeing). So if it is an everyday occurrence, then yes a sign saying "private property, please keep off" or whatever wouldn't be unreasonable.

Is it not the case though that the gatepost is at the very corner of your drive and dogs are peeing on it on their way past on the pavement, but because of the "directional jet" effect of a male dog peeing, it's going down the driveway side of the post as well as the pavement side?

Ultimately though, I just couldn't get so het up over something that is mostly water, isn't toxic, isn't deliberate vandalism - it's an animal, with no concept of property or ownership, relieving itself of the discomfort of having a full bladder - and which will be washed away at the next rain shower.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 03/06/2014 12:32

OP you clearly are just ridiculously prejudiced against dog owners, and no, a car is not the same as a poxy garden wall. Lots and lots of people are telling you YABU, but fine, you won't have it. Hmm

Life is way too short to get your knickers in a twist over such a trivial matter IMO

(By the way - are you OK with ot happening if it is raining at the time, cos the piddle would be washed away while they were piddling?) Grin

Coumarin · 03/06/2014 15:03

FuckyNell We call it reading their pee-mail. Grin

Ilovexmastime · 03/06/2014 15:11

If it was my new car getting pissed on a few times a day, I wouldn't give a shit.

musicalendorphins2 · 03/06/2014 15:13

I saw a similar [[http://www.signswithanattitude.com/images_signs/special_signs/here_lies.jpg
sign like this]] , but it was painted on a flat-ish stone, (& looked better than that sign does) with a tiny fence around it and a few flowers planted, on at the corner of a lawn.

musicalendorphins2 · 03/06/2014 15:15

You could make the words say whatever crime the animals are committing... "Fouled on this private property" , perhaps?

BravePotato · 03/06/2014 15:37

LOL at OP, and others saying they'd be "pissed off" (pun intended?)

Or they "could not give a shit"

this is a pee and poo thread

It's not nice OP but there's not much you can do. Do you have a hose you could rinse it down each evening?

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 03/06/2014 16:54

rommell you 'numpty', if you read my post properly, you'd have seen I said prejudice against dog OWNERS, not DOGS, ffs

SelectAUserName · 03/06/2014 17:12

It's not about the Rights of Dog Rommell, but TBH if it comes to a toss-up between a sentient creature capable of feeling pain and discomfort, including the discomfort of a full bladder, and it being able to relieve that discomfort or a wall ffs - well, pardon me for thinking that the living, breathing, feeling creature is marginally more important than the pile of bricks.

ThatBloodyWoman · 03/06/2014 17:14

Dog v Wall.

Dog wins.

ThursdayLast · 03/06/2014 17:48

Wouldn't care if it was my car wheel.
At all. It goes on the ROAD.

Rommell · 03/06/2014 20:36

And as for SelectAUserName - good-oh. As I am also sentient and capable of feeling pain, next time I'm out in public and want to have a piss, I'll do it up your front door. Shouldn't have any problems with that - after all, my right to piss trumps any rights your door might have, doesn't it? I mean, it can't feel anything, after all, not like those fluffly wuffly ickle doggies and me.

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 03/06/2014 20:46

rommell are you remotely interested in having a reasonable discussion, or are you just trying insult as many people as possible and have ALL your posts deleted? Odd.

ThatBloodyWoman · 03/06/2014 20:53

If you piss up my front door, rommell, my old mucker, you'll need to watch out for my dog trying to bite/hump/chase you(*delete as applicable).

SelectAUserName · 03/06/2014 21:16

Difference is, Rommell sweetie, a human pissing in public is committing a criminal offence. A dog doing it isn't. So fill your boots my dear (preferably literally) - I know a lot of policemen. Smile
