AIBU to not want dogs pissing on my new wall?

I'll caveat this by saying I am not a dog owner.

We have had a lovely white rendered wall built in our front garden. I cannot tell you how many dog owners I have seen pause at our wall to all their dogs to cock a leg and piss down it. Which is leaving marks! It is not rocket science that if you pour yellow piss down a white wall it will stain.

AIBU for this to piss me off? I'm not blaming the dogs, but couldn't the owners tug them on! It's getting to the stage I thinking of putting up a sign or banging on the window when I see it!

Fifty years from now don't put money on dogs being kept a pets in towns at all. I won't know about it but many of you will.

uptheauntie · 02/06/2014 14:54

I can see the stains. They are clearly visible. If hadn't just been out with hot soapy water I would take a photo for you.

Pavements are very wide and it is a quiet street, not lots of cars rushing past.

My knickers are not in a twist. Just irritated by the rather selfish attitude of the dog owners. It reminds me of parents saying 'oh well, that is just the way Tobias behaves, what do you expect me to do?'

Most owners can't be bothered.

that appears to sum it up.

PunkrockerGirl · 02/06/2014 16:17

Find out where the culprits live and take your dc to piss on their drives.
YANBU.

allmycats · 02/06/2014 16:22

By the wording of the OP I just have to ask this

was it OK for the dogs when they pissed up your 'old' wall ?

how do the dogs know that the wall is 'new' ?

Ludoole · 02/06/2014 16:29

Id take a dog peeing up my wall anyday. I have people on their way home from the local pub peeing up mine...and one lovely fella vomited all over the cap stones....

I think it boils down to that -dog owners don't realise YOU care so much. I doubt any of them are looking to deliberately offend you, I know I certainly wouldn't want to.
So make it clear you don't like it. They're obviously not friends of yours anyway, so who cares what they think?

PunkrockerGirl · 02/06/2014 16:56

I always bang on the window if I see a dog weeing on the shrubs in the front garden. I don't care one tiny bit if it then finishes off on the owner's shoes.

uptheauntie · 02/06/2014 17:00

Allmycats. I had a hedge before. They had no interest in it. I really have no idea if dogs are intelligent enough to realise the wall is new, but I suspect they know it wasn't there before. As they didnt use to piss up it twice a day.

Do any dog owners carry a bottle water with them on walks if there is a chance their dog would wee on something inappropriate like a car or a child's bike or something? To rinse it off I mean.

maddy68 · 02/06/2014 18:20

Don't use chilli powder. It won't just be dogs that get that in their bits , ears and eyes. Certainly not pleasant.
Pour bleach on it, they like the scent of other dogs so that's what you need to disguise. I would go for Hayes fluid myself but otherwise bleach

InSpaceNooneCanHearYouScream · 02/06/2014 18:30

This reminds me of the thread where the woman expected horses not to shit in the road outside her house. Dogs piss up walls. So do tomcats. So do drunks. Big deal.

BMW6 · 02/06/2014 18:53

Get an empty spray bottle, fill with very diluted bleach and spray wall where they pee.

On the plus side, when your white wall starts to get mossy dog pee will clear the moss !

Rommell · 02/06/2014 19:01

OP, I would be annoyed too but unforch as has been demonstrated on this thread, dog-owners think their precious pampered little shitting filthy hounds have a god-given right to do as they please, just because 'it's nature', despite the fact that these are not wild animals and they are only around at all because a bunch of ninnies not only want to share their living-space with the nasty flea-ridden biting barking things but also want to inflict this choice on wider society.

Rommell · 02/06/2014 19:08

Fifty years from now don't put money on dogs being kept a pets in towns at all. I won't know about it but many of you will.

That would be lovely!

BMW6 · 02/06/2014 19:10

Not keen on dogs Rommell? Grin

LtEveDallas · 02/06/2014 19:13

TBH if it's this much of an issue, then white was the worst colour you could have chosen for your wall - exhaust fumes will turn it grey, acid rain will turn it shitty brown. Bird shit will stain it and flies will be drawn to it.

Dog wee, whilst unpleasant, won't do that much damage. You can buy a spray from Pets at Home that will deter them, but it is unlikely to deter cats (esp rancid smelling tom cat piss) and foxes.

Sorry, probably not your best decision tbh.

Andrewofgg · 02/06/2014 19:14

Golly, Rommell, and I thought I had reservations about canine companions!

I live in a city. I didn't live in a city when we first got the dog. Sadly I have to go where the work is. That means I now have to walk along pavements to get to a green space where he can go off-lead. I try to encourage him to pee in our garden before we set off but sometimes he just won't, and I can't make him. If we'd had him from a puppy maybe I could have taught him to pee on demand but he's an elderly rescue so that's not an option.

I don't let him walk onto people's driveways/gardens or pee on "stuff" - bikes, signs outside shops etc but the pavement ie public side of normal boundary walls occasionally get peed on. He's a male dog who cocks rather than squats and needs something to lean against as he has arthritis.

I always advocate responsible dog ownership and I don't think children (or anyone) should have to navigate piles of shit or rivers of piss. But dogs are animals, not robots.

Hahahaha Rommell Grin
Imagine thinking that a real life animal might be closer to someone's heart than a WALL???

Rommell · 02/06/2014 19:23

I prefer walls to dogs.

uptheauntie · 02/06/2014 19:28

Lteve, we got our house painted white a few years ago. Not covered in bird shit, not discoloured by car fumes and acid rain hasn't discoloured it either. Can't say I have ever noticed it being a draw for flies either. So you can see why White did see a completely sensible option for our wall. What I didn't bank on was inconsiderate dog owners standing idle whilst their dog wanders into my drive and pisses on the wall post or up against the wall without flinching.

ThatBloodyWoman · 02/06/2014 19:31

Bloody hell, I've lived places where blokes piss up the wall, and even leave the occasional pool of vomit or turd on a good weekend.

Dog piss.Pah! What's the big deal?

ThatBloodyWoman · 02/06/2014 19:32

My dog has piddled up people's legs before.
I can understand that pissing a person off.
