to think wearing underwear to bed is nasty?

DM used to tell me "wearing underwear to bed is very unhygienic and can lead to thrush" so I've never worn undercrackers to bed, unless wearing sanpro and don't wear pjs.
aibu to think it's weird that other people wear boxers/nickers to bed? Just because I've been told it's not hygienic?

I think it's just how you've been brought up. I sleep naked yet my best friend sleeps in pjs and finds it weird I sleep naked, just as weird as I find her and her DS sleeping in socks Wink

OddBoots · 21/05/2014 16:44

It depends - if it's cotton undies changed each night that has to be better than PJs that are changed less often. Non-breathable undies wouldn't be good though.

JonSnowsPout · 21/05/2014 16:45

I wear undies in bed. Have never had thrush.

shouldnthavesaid · 21/05/2014 16:47

I'd have thought wearing pants to bed is far more hygienic than wearing nothing - surely bodily fluids end up all over the bed? I have quite a heavy discharge, always have and if I slept pantless I'd be changing the bedsheets constantly. Admittedly I do sleep nude if I'm boiling hot but usually I just sleep in a t shirt and pants or pyjamas if cold.

I was away to ask what you do during period but have re-read your post!

WooWooOwl · 21/05/2014 16:48

I can't see how it's unhygienic, pants don't cause thrush.

Whether it's more or less hygienic surely depends on how often sheets are washed.

DoJo · 21/05/2014 16:48

It's weird to worry about what other people are wearing to bed! Grin
I don't get why underwear would be less hygienic than pyjamas, but compared to nakedness, it probably does seem as though it restricts the airflow.
However, I doubt it causes thrush given that so many people do it - surely they wouldn't if it caused them discomfort.

FrancesHouseman · 21/05/2014 16:48

My rule is one layer, be it a pair of cotton knickers or pyjama bottoms. Two is unnecessary!

HillyHolbrook · 21/05/2014 16:50

Gosh. Haven't you been here long enough to hear about poo crumbs. [shocked] Wink

I sometimes sleep naked, sometimes in pjs or underwear. Depends how I feel! I change them before bed though into clean, cotton ones, I don't sleep in that days knickers, though that's because I shower at night and don't want to put dirty ones back on more than anything. I've never had thrush in my life.

Nunyabiz · 21/05/2014 16:50

I wear knickers under my pj's (because I wear pj's more than one night in a row).
I would never sleep naked ever... Because when I have tried this in the past I have all sorts of horrible dreams that I am starkers in a crowd somewhere lol.

NorkyButNice · 21/05/2014 16:50

Cotton vest top and pants for me in bed.

DH thinks his luck is in if I come to bed with no pants on...

gaggiagirl · 21/05/2014 16:51

I sometimes wear just knickers to bed (clean ones). Cotton of course.

Im weird though and I don't want fanjo all over my sheets. Penis is fine though Wink

ICanSeeTheSun · 21/05/2014 16:51

What would you do incase of a fire < it happened to me >

shouldnthavesaid · 21/05/2014 16:53

To be quite frank I can't see how much of a difference it would make to the environment down below. Unless you were actually sleeping with knees up (sorry), surely the exposure of air to down below is pretty much the same? No air's getting into the internal bits unless you're purposely sleeping in such a manner that it could, and nudity's not really enough for that.. It's like saying if you sleep without a t shirt on you won't sweat under the arms..

ElizaDolittle2 · 21/05/2014 16:54

I wear knickers to bed and never had thrush...

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 21/05/2014 16:56

I wear knickers to bed, haven't had thrush for years!

I don't get the issue really, I think it's all to do with what you are used to. It's never occurred to me not to wear underwear iyswim so my dses do the same as me. Pants then jimmies with clean pants every night. Clean jimmies every second night.

Nomama · 21/05/2014 16:57

Crikey. I feel strangled if I wear anything to bed. Necklines, knicker elastic, all bother the bejasus out of me.

OwlCapone · 21/05/2014 16:57

YABU and your mother is wrong.

CrayolaCocaColaRocknRolla · 21/05/2014 16:59

Poo crumbs!? Shock
They just used to say "it makes you smell!!" and I've just thought, in the past 15 minutes, "did my gran never have a shower in the morning?" and then realised they only had one bath a week in a tin bath in front of the fire. So she may be right, but I have showers on a morning so i never really smell down there. Hate clothes anyway, if I could be a full time nudist I would be... in an ideal world, ey? Grin

YADNBU you need to give it a good waft overnight and let the air get to it

RobinSparkles · 21/05/2014 16:59

"I wear undies in bed. Have never had thrush."

Me too. I change them every night and every morning so don't see how it's unhygienic unless your wearing the same underwear for 24 hours! (Bleurgh).

hugoagogo · 21/05/2014 17:01

My knickers are not air tight Wink

WeileWeileWaile · 21/05/2014 17:05

I wear undies to bed - but new ones. It's like a clean sheet for your bum Grin

OwlCapone · 21/05/2014 17:08

you need to give it a good waft overnight and let the air get to it

Do you sleep with no covers and with your legs apart and your arse in the air? No? Then stop being ridiculous.

Trills · 21/05/2014 17:08

YABU to continue to believe that something is the way it must be done, just because your mother told you so, when you can see that other people do it differently.

Maybe your mother was right and the other people are wrong.
Maybe the other people are right and your mother was wrong.
Maybe there's more than one way to do it and neither is wrong.
But don't just follow what your mother told you without spending a little bit of time thinking about it.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 21/05/2014 17:12

Oh, I like clean sheet for your bum

I just don't see how not wearing knickers makes a difference to the airing ones fanjo gets. Surely most people sleep with their legs together anyway.....not a lot of wafting to be had if your legs are togetherConfused
