to think wearing underwear to bed is nasty?

DM used to tell me "wearing underwear to bed is very unhygienic and can lead to thrush" so I've never worn undercrackers to bed, unless wearing sanpro and don't wear pjs.
aibu to think it's weird that other people wear boxers/nickers to bed? Just because I've been told it's not hygienic?

my friend wears a bra to bed, never understood why! She DOES have her nipple pierced and she's scared of catching it but I don't think it'd get caught..
4seasons i think the flow of body juices is one thing im looking forward to stopping. Urghhh.
I wish OH slept naked, he gets himself all tangled up and he's a heavy sleeper, it's like his family jewels get themselves wrapped round themselves and the fabric, one more turn and they'll knot! I said something and he replied with "oh but what if someone walks in!?" (we live with his parents)
I literally don't care, I don't see the human body as sexual, it's just a person, it's not like we're massive phalluses, I don't see the big deal in a naked body. I find it so comfy to sleep naked. Hate it when I have to wear sanpro.

YANBU. Everyone is different and has been raised in a different way. Seems about half and half reading these posts.

I sleep nake unless hubby pisses me offit's cold.

Jayne35 · 22/05/2014 17:35

*Naked, even, and that other bit was mean't to be crossed out (I'm new, did it wrong).

HecatePropylaea · 22/05/2014 17:41

I can honestly say I have never given even one moment's thought to whether other people wear underwear in bed, and not even the tiniest shit as to whether or not their choice is weird. Now I cant stop picturing you all in bed, with your particular undergarment preferences. It's disturbing, frankly. Put me right off me dinner. Grin

LittleMissDisorganized · 22/05/2014 17:47

I sleep better in pyjamas - tried to sleep naked when DH and I were first together for a good couple of months. Eventually chose a good night's sleep as priority. Keep knickers on so pyjamas last two nights - I'm sure that's been done before, a number of times, on AIBU!

MeAndMySpoon · 22/05/2014 17:57

I used to sleep just in PJs or nightie but when I started with all the pregnancy malarkey I began to wear cotton pants, because I got sweaty and icky uncomfortable Down There. And I never stopped. I used to think it was a bit unhygienic to keep your pants on and now I'm a pants-wearer. Confused

Minnieisthedevilmouse · 22/05/2014 17:59

Haven't read Fred.

Am astounded you took dh as your 'gospel'.

1954...?

Weathergames · 22/05/2014 18:03

Don't ever wear anything to bed unless camping and neither does OH.

Wouldn't wear anything if I had periods either.

MrsChickPea · 22/05/2014 18:17

People that wear knickers for 24 hours are wrong!!!
Clean PJ's every night here. No knickers. PJ bottoms and a vest top, and sometimes a jumper and socks if it's cold (much to DH's horror!). Sheets washed at least weekly - more in the summer as love line dried sheets! When I was small it was a longish nightie, changed once a week, and I think it was bath and hair wash once/twice a week!

purplesel · 22/05/2014 18:29

Sometimes I wear pants, other times I go commando. Doesn't seem to make much difference either way, unless, of course, I want it too. Grin

CountessVronsky · 22/05/2014 18:33

People have very strong views about what's right to wear to bed. I always put my children in baby Gap pajamas and now they have to wear legging-style pajamas, they can't bear anything else.

I wear underwear to bed (and everywhere else).

ForcesSweetheart · 23/05/2014 11:06

Since dd1 got worms I can't bear the thought of any of us going to bed without something on down below. Reading into how they spread/recur I learned that unconscious scratching of the bum during sleep gets their eggs under nails/in bedding etc.. 6 weeks of daily bedding changes and damp dusting put the fear in me.

raindaisy · 23/05/2014 11:15

If you are worried about them causing thrush at night then what happens during the day as you usually have them on longer and under more clothing and in varying temperatures. Each to their own. PJs for me and new set each night.

Zara8 · 23/05/2014 11:32

PJs and new undies to bed here for me! Or sometimes just new undies if it's warm.

Have always worn pants to bed, under PJs!

Each to their own, but to be perfectly honest I think wearing PJs and no pants to bed is gross unless you change your PJs every day. It's like wearing the same pair of undies to bed for a whole week then or something, isn't it?! Then again I don't think it's gross if you sleep naked and don't change the sheets, so who knows Confused

Have only ever had thrush once in my life, but it was when I was exhausted straight after DS was born.

The politics of bedtime attire...

pollmeister77 · 23/05/2014 11:34

Ugh! No way pants in bed (unless sharing bed with a friend!). Wearing a bra in bed is beyond my comprehension - they are uncomfortable enough during the day as it is.

lifesavingnoodles · 23/05/2014 11:40

i wear clean knickers to bed every night

getting into a bed that you have slept in knickerless is as bad as wearing the knickers i slept in last night

i wear clean knickers in the morning

but thats just me... if you feel happy doing whatever, then get on with it!

LauraB74 · 23/05/2014 15:45

My mate thinks I am weird that I take my pj's off to get into bed and I think she is weird that she doesnt. even in winter I prefer to sleep with nothing on. x

WitchWay · 23/05/2014 16:36

Same here Laura - I potter around in the evening in pyjamas, take them off to bed, sometimes wear them in the morning for pottering before getting dressed.

OooOooTheMonkey · 23/05/2014 17:32

YANBU. My DM also gave me this advice and I've never worn underwear in bed (except when pregnant or when Aunt Flo is visiting)

revealall · 23/05/2014 18:00

I think most of you are BU. Totally excessive changing of nightwear and sheets. No wonder we need environmentalists

Perhaps it's a bit grotty to wear PJ's repeatedly (sans pants) but
A) you aren't in public - it's bed
B) Gravity surely means it's not the same as standing sitting all day?

PrincessBabyCat · 23/05/2014 18:22

If I'm sleeping with DH I sleep naked.

If I'm sleeping by myself (or at a guests house), I just take off my pants and wear undies and a tshirt to bed.

samsam123 · 23/05/2014 20:16

so do you go without knickers all day as well?

Sallyingforth · 23/05/2014 20:47

I do!

thegreylady · 23/05/2014 20:47

i just wear a short nightie in bed. I wash my bum and bits before going to bed every night. I hate the feeling of anything ,including pj trousers, on my bum in bed.

thegreylady · 23/05/2014 20:51

4seasons you are right about post menopausal dryness. My dh wears jama bottoms now but used to sleep naked when we were first married.
