to think wearing underwear to bed is nasty?

DM used to tell me "wearing underwear to bed is very unhygienic and can lead to thrush" so I've never worn undercrackers to bed, unless wearing sanpro and don't wear pjs.
aibu to think it's weird that other people wear boxers/nickers to bed? Just because I've been told it's not hygienic?

wearing underwear to bed is in no way unhygienic. You wear panties all day don't you? Does your vagina rot away during this time? Does your body function 100% differently while you sleep? I"m sorry but that thinking is just ridiculous.

JohnCusacksWife · 24/05/2014 01:11

Clean PJs every night? Assuming a family of 4 who has the time/energy/inclination to wash 28 (or 56 if its tops and bottoms) extra items of laundry every week?? Or am I a just a slob? Confused

goodasitgets · 24/05/2014 02:58

I sleep in anything. Only rule is I have to have socks on (attractive!) Grin
I take them off in the middle of the night but I can't fall asleep if I'm not wearing socks

squoosh · 24/05/2014 03:29

Knicker and pyjamas?

How very Victorian.

squoosh · 24/05/2014 03:30

'If we were both naked in there I'd definitely want to wash the sheets every day.'

Ummmm, why exactly? If your sheets need changing on a daily basis I suggest you consult a doctor. That much leakage definitely isn't normal.

squoosh · 24/05/2014 03:32

'getting into a bed that you have slept in knickerless is as bad as wearing the knickers i slept in last night'

Are you stupid? How is that the same?

Yeah, what exactly do people imagine the real tangible effects to be of sleeping in the same pair of pyjamas every night for a week, or sleeping nude in the same bedclothes every night for a week, or a fortnight come to that?

If you're washing regularly, and there are no noticeable odours to the one or two people who sleep in the bed, surely it's not a problem.

itsbetterthanabox · 25/05/2014 23:14

I remember when I was a kid other kids at sleep overs took off their pants and just wore pyjamas and I was like what! I always wore my pants. Never thought not to. It's not unhygienic. If you are wearing cotton pants you're no more likely to get thrush.

Weirdest reactivation of a thread ever...

FindoGask · 16/07/2014 07:50

I can honestly say I have never once concerned myself with what other people wear to sleep in.

CarmineRose1978 · 16/07/2014 19:30

I wear just a short nightie too, no pants. I can't stand having anything binding around me at night. And I have never once leaked, even when on a period. And I move around in my sleep quite a lot.

acsweeney I don't think anyone is suggesting that bodies function differently at night. Rather, it's that there a difference between wearing pants 24 hours a day, and giving your bits some air for around 8 of those 24. It certainly isn't going to do you any harm even if it doesn't have an effect on thrush.

CarmineRose1978 · 16/07/2014 19:31

God, this is a zombie thread! I didn't even realise. Doh!

LuluJakey1 · 16/07/2014 23:35

Me, pyjama bottoms and a vest top and socks in winter or if it is cold. Nothing in summer. DH never wears anything in bed. He radiates heat like the Scots Porridge Oats advert so usually once it gets to March we sleep with just a sheet. I like a fan on all night on my side of the bed to protect me from his heat.

No poo crumbs here. Never seen one.

I couldn't sleep in a bra or pants. I often don't wear pants at all- M and S tights with cotton gusset under dresses and skirts.

Happy36 · 16/07/2014 23:39

I sleep naked except during my periods when I wear knickers with a sanitary towel. In other people's homes I wear the lightest possible nightie to sleep but don't walk around in it. On a couple of rare occasions I've slept in a room with female friends (weekends away) I've worn knickers and a nightie or vest top.
Don't like sleeping in pants if I can help it.

TheIronGnome · 17/07/2014 01:26

As a child I always slept naked apart from sleepovers etc when my DM would always have to remind me to pack pjs as I'd forget she still reminds me now given half a chance!! I even streaked down the corridor at brownie camp! Ah, the memories!!

Now I can't bare sleeping naked, it's knickers, shorts and t-shirt for me. I don't even like naked cuddles just naked sexing!
