FiveGoMadInDorset · 18/05/2014 16:59

Good luck finding buses in the countryside that fit in with your timetable and where you want to be.

DogCalledRudis · 18/05/2014 17:02

People give me lifts. I'm nice so they cant refuse me

Oops [embarassed] my first deletion.
In my opinion the op needs to do alot little more research before commiting themselves to a potentially dangerous and illegal pastime.
Hope this is ok Grin

Squirrel hounds do catch young foxes when they go cub hunting (sorry....Autumn hunting..changed by the CA to make it sound less blood thirsty) Having spent a number of years working in a hunt yard and going hunting I can honestly say I have never seen such wanton cruelty in the name of sport and tradition. I feel ashamed to have ever been a part of it. Your post presents a very idealistic and generally inaccurate picture of fox hunting. That said, I don't have time for sabs who use intimidation and threatening behaviour.

Theodorous · 18/05/2014 17:19

That kind of behaviour is akin to terrorism but that is a name to grand for a bunch of soap dodging skanks.

squirrel996 · 18/05/2014 17:31

I used to work for an mfh and I was always told that they didn't catch cubs when clubbing it was used to introduce young hounds to hunting.

cantbelievethisishppening · 18/05/2014 17:41

squirrel Yes they do catch cubs. Autumn hunting introduces the young hounds to hunting foxes with the help of a couple of older, more experienced hounds. It teaches the hounds to only go after foxes. The cubs cannot get away fast enough. The hunt will usually block off any escape routes in a covert (holding up) and send hounds in to find a scent and subsequently a fox. Any foxes that do try to escape will be sent back in by hunt followers making a lot of noise.

BTW hunters abuse their dogs and horses

If you abuse an animal, sooner or later it will turn on you - you get jerks in all areas but most people who ride with the hunts adore their horses (and the hounds I've seen have all been well cared for).

YWBU to join the saboteurs; even without the direct aggression towards the animals, the number of injuries caused (to rider and horse) by the saboteurs spooking the horses is terrible.

catgirl1976 · 18/05/2014 17:57

I have pictures of my horse on my profile. My sister hunts him (or used to - he's retired now). I disagree with hunting whole heartedly, but if you can show me an animal that looks fitter or better cared for I would be surprised.

cantbelievethisishppening · 18/05/2014 18:00

catgirl gorgeous horse. Am very jealous. Would love to have my own horse again.

catgirl1976 · 18/05/2014 18:05

He's a love :)

He just lives in a field munching grass with his sheep friends now and getting spoiled rotten.

I don't ride really anymore - no time since DS (and no money!) Grin

I miss it

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/05/2014 18:08

I don't agree with fox hunting

I opposed the badger cull

Never in this life or the next would you see me doing what some hunt sabs do. Directing the pack into traffic, jumping in front of horse and rider etc.

All seems terminally stupid and dangerous to me.

ThatBloodyWoman · 18/05/2014 18:12

I would be delighted to sab any hunt still hunting fox.
I will be delighted to sab the badger cull.

I have chooks.I have lost chooks and ducks to fox.
I live in a farming and hunting area.

Peekingduck · 18/05/2014 18:13

Why are people taking this seriously?
Op - go and join the Horse and Hound forum, they have a special board for hunting discussion. www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?61-Hunting-Forum
You'll be welcomed with open arms. Grin

Joules68 · 18/05/2014 18:15

Yabu.... You don't seem to have a clue about any of it , just appear to have seen a passing bandwagon and hopped on...

ThatBloodyWoman · 18/05/2014 18:15

I have also seen huntsmen display a total lack of control over the pack and a total disregard for both their hounds and any members of the public.

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/05/2014 18:22

Why not do a peaceful protest or similar?

Having been a rider previously, recreational only not in hunts, I do think anyone who jumps in front of a horse going at anything other than a walk has entirely taken leave of their senses.

ThatBloodyWoman · 18/05/2014 18:26

I believe that most hunt sabs are peaceful.

Imo hunt sabbing isn't about banner waving, it's about being more pro-active.

partialderivative · 18/05/2014 18:26

Rats are very intelligent creatures. You treat them well, they'll be nice to you.

Priceless!

And here's me thinking that humans were meant to be fairly intelligent as well.

(So, rats were nice to humans during the black death)

ThatBloodyWoman · 18/05/2014 18:28

I've never been savaged by a casually passing rat......

SelectAUserName · 18/05/2014 18:30

My friend used to hunt with a pack who - when old-style hunting was legal - lost half a dozen hounds because they were lured onto the nearby railway line by sabs and killed by a train.

Her daughter - 10yo at the time - was threatened by sabs and called a "stuck-up cunt" because she was hunting on her pony with her mum.

Another pack had a number of hounds stolen and neutered by sabs, meaning they could no longer live and work with the pack they had spent their entire life with, and had to be destroyed as they couldn't settle in a home/pet environment.

I don't hunt, have never hunted. But the activities of hunt sabs are sickening. They have no regard for people OR animals, so far as I can see, and use so-called animal welfare as an excuse for class warfare and violence. If that's the kind of thing you want to align yourself with OP, then I'm afraid you don't sound like a vey nice or intelligent person.

DogCalledRudis · 18/05/2014 18:31

Rats were bad during black death because people were quite unhygienic.
Oh, and there was a lady who was put in mental hospital corridor (by Russian communists) as she said she saw Jesus. It was rats who kept her freezing to death.

OP posts:
FrigginRexManningDay · 18/05/2014 18:39

Must be different rules there as hunts take place at all times of the year here and they have my parents field destroyed. So much so that they put a sign up saying there were open traps in the field, and not the only ones to do so. People round there hate to see them gathering.

FrigginRexManningDay · 18/05/2014 18:42

Or maybe they are illegal hunts.
