that Mners seem to have? I have read through their manifesto and it seems all very reasonable to me.
I can't see why opposing 'open door' immigration, and wanting out of Europe , invokes so much hatred on MN?

Having looked at it more, I believe UKIP is just about getting enough people into parliament to tip the balance in favour of leaving Europe and curbing immigration, rather than being the government.I guess this is why their policies on other things seem a bit woolly because these 2 items are their only real agenda.

I don't believe the Tories will ever allow there to be a straightforward in/out referendum on Europe, they'd have to cloud the issue somehow. Labour won't even give us a referendum at all. Despite the fact that it's something that most of their supporters want. Even people that are pro-EU should want a referendum just to clear up the issue.

HauntedNoddyCar · 11/05/2014 16:09

Exactly Baron. And it's not good enough to have 2 policies and hope that if they got into office in the UK that real life would allow them to fudge every other issue while they divorce Europe.

I got BNP this week MrsDV...dealt with the UKIP one thanks to Pirate's DH suggested artwork but the BNP one is currently in my car (can't have it in the house) and I can't decide what to do with it.

Well, I will still vote for who I want. Nothing on these threads has changed my mind.

It has been interesting to hear from such a diverse range of people and their opinions, even if some of them have turned nasty.

I am sure the Conservatives will be quite happy to get my vote Smile

Oblomov · 11/05/2014 16:50

Baron, really? I've seen some really good discussions. on Mn as well.

This is a long but excellent summary of the impacts of leaving the EU: www.parliament.uk/Templates/BriefingPapers/Pages/BPPdfDownload.aspx?bp-id=rp13-42

In short, it would be very bad for our economy, and have wide-ranging consequences on everything from air quality to the cost of groceries. And cost thousands of jobs though lost inward investment.

xpatmama · 11/05/2014 20:49

Man I listened to broadcasting house today and there was an interview with a front national mayor, what he was saying was absolutely chilling... These are the people that believe they have stuff in common with UKIP.

MamaMary · 11/05/2014 21:11

I wouldn't have dreamt of voting UKIP, but I actually knew little about any of their policies other than anti-Europe and anti-immigration. I've now read some of the links and the manifesto etc posted here and I'm frankly horrified.

It seems pretty clear to me: Vote UKIP and you're voting for fascism. OK, it may not be fully-fledged yet, but it has so many parallels to historical fascism that it's scary.

deakymom · 11/05/2014 23:10

the only reason they have a shot is because the other parties are so shit

and i agree with one thing we should not be supporting other countries who are better off than us just because india won't take care of their poor as well as WE like doesn't mean we can afford to

there is loads of social housing in my area feel free to move in (but there is no work as people from other areas work here and live there)

we really don't need so many people coming into this country you can force people on jsa into work as long as it makes them better off financially

its been proven more than once we don't benefit from trading with the EU they benefit more from trading with us we need to renegotiate and our current PM will not unless we re-elect him and the others won't either its really not a case of in or out its stopping them from raping our country and our resources and charging us for the privilege (fish in case you're wondering and numerous other stuff but im mostly irritated by the fish)

its not up to us to save the world

we should focus on our home and our country first then maybe in the future when we can afford to save the world then

i want more jets and battleships while russia is stalking in our waters because they are looking for trouble as per usual

deakymom · 11/05/2014 23:11

sorry just read a comment leaving the EU is bad for air quality? the MPs talk more bs than anyone the lack of MEPs conversing would have an improvement surely?

Panwearsrosa · 11/05/2014 23:20

"we should focus on our home and our country first then maybe in the future when we can afford to save the world then....

Really? Capitalism doesn't work like that. There isn't any golden horizon, so 'saving the world' is never an issue. IF any country gets really rich it goes to exploit other weaker countries, NOT save them.
As for Russia 'stalking our waters' or looking for trouble as usual...have you no sense of history, and World Wars, or geo-politics, or well...any thing about how getting 'armed' is a pre-condition for slaughter?

xpatmama · 11/05/2014 23:25

Deakymom I guess that was a joke but it's actually important. the reason is that air quality that affects the uk cannot only be controlled by the uk since it comes from all kinds of sources, some European. Therefore best to have a coordinated approach - which is basically what the eu is supposed to do. The eu has also (agreed by member states such as UK) set some standards for air quality which we are currently failing to meet.
