that Mners seem to have? I have read through their manifesto and it seems all very reasonable to me.
I can't see why opposing 'open door' immigration, and wanting out of Europe , invokes so much hatred on MN?

toby I've seen the statement from a candidate who indicated that marriage means accepting sex at any time. He stated that sex on a Friday, then sex on a Sunday means that 'forced sex' on a Saturday cannot be rape as consent has previously been given and was so afterwards.

JustGrrrrrreat · 11/05/2014 13:18

Well quite apart from the racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic side and the small minded and unable to see the bigger picture policies....

One of their campaigners came to our door. Asked my husband to sign a petition without explaining what the petition was about. My husband said um NO. So the man called out to my daughter and said "daddy just said you are going to Disneyland". He then walked off.

Nice

SteadyEddie · 11/05/2014 13:19

The no rape in marriage comes from the comments of a major UKIP donor. It isn't in their manifesto from 2010.

However if they really found such comments abhorrent (which they are), why not give the money back and distance yourselves from the comments?

peggyundercrackers · 11/05/2014 13:19

whatever accusations are levelled at ukip can be levelled against the other parties and politicians - there are too may politicians across all parties who are only in it for themselves - its not about serving the people or trying to create a better society - its about what they can make out of it - anyone who wants power should not be trusted with it. if we stripped away all the benefits of being a politician they would all go and work somewhere else. these people should want to run the country for the benefit of the country not for what they can get out of it.

i see call-me-dave has once again confirmed, just this morning, he will give us a vote on leaving the EU. I for one think getting out of the EU is the right thing to do. It is one the most corrupt, bullying, undemocratic organisations that we take most of our rules from. it only exists to serve and benefit the few and to control/monitor everyone else.

Panwearsrosa · 11/05/2014 13:20

You're right Steady, it wasn't a candidate. It was a no-rape in marriage enabler.

JanineStHubbins · 11/05/2014 13:20

Yes, the no rape in marriage came from Demetri Marchessini, a major UKIP donor. He also said that gay people were incapable of love, only lust.

xpatmama · 11/05/2014 13:21

Tobysmum the evidence I'm black and white is that UKIP have one of the worst voting records in the European Parliament (see the FT I linked to earlier). They can't be bothered to turn up to committee so get confused on the major votes - eg farage on fisheries, not voting on the financial transaction tax etc etc. they just go to brussels and take lots of nice money.

Plus one of the things MEPs do which is really important is to lead the Parliamentary position on legislation - by drafting the report for the committee and this is how the legislation is amended. I would be surprised of any of the UKIP MEPs have drafted even One of those. Bearing in mind that most MEPs do at least 4 or 5 or more during their parliamentary term.

x2boys · 11/05/2014 13:21

The nursery my son attends is part of a mainstream school although he has a place there in reception how it works in my Lea you have to apply as normal for a mainstream school than wait untillthe statement process is complete and specify where you want your child to be educated mainstream/special the school have made it abundantly clear they don't want my son so inclusion does not always work they have also failed several autistic children if my son was to start there in September he would be in a class of 30 there is also another child with very similar needs to my son whilst they may both have a statement the school can't cope with them which is why I want my son to go to a special school I agree its not appropriate for all children ,but I keep reading about children with special needs being excluded from mainstream because staff cannot cope with the challenges.

StarGazeyPond · 11/05/2014 13:21

Why should I tell you I am voting UKIP (as you imply Janine). I wouldn't tell you who I was voting for no matter who it was - because I was brought up to believe who you vote for is your own PERSONAL matter.

JanineStHubbins · 11/05/2014 13:21

whatever accusations are levelled at ukip can be levelled against the other parties and politicians

Er, no.

JanineStHubbins · 11/05/2014 13:24

I didn't ask you who you were voting for, StarGazey Confused.

It's pretty clear to most readers from your posts on this and other threads that you are at the very least seriously considering voting UKIP.

xpatmama · 11/05/2014 13:25

Peggyundercrackers surely if you believe what you said about the eu you want people in Brussels who actually do their job and provide oversight.

Note my accusation could be levelled at one or two MEPs from the different parties but UKIP is by far the worst offender and the stats confirm this.

x2boys · 11/05/2014 13:30

And that would be my child BaronDent as he has a rare chromosomal disorder thought to have caused his difficulties which may well have shown some soft markers on the nuchal fold scan which I chose not to have my son has as much right to life as any child so of course I would nt agree with compulsory abortion for disabilities but inclusion does not always work so I would welcome more special schools

Panwearsrosa · 11/05/2014 13:30

I've always been a bit Hmm about the 'private' thing about voting. After all what you vote will directly affect me and my loved ones and my community. So on that ground it's reasonable to know who voted for who.
Certainly I'd like to know who exactly votes UKIP.

UKIP candidate asks why the party is last on the ballot paper. They have such a persecution complex that they think even the alphabet is against them.

peggyundercrackers · 11/05/2014 13:38

kim147 you don't think labour/tory/greens/lib dems party use statistics which are wrong and are manipulated to suit their cause?

As a point, councils already use local connection to allocate housing - something that caused me no end of problems when I was trying to get away from my toxic and abusive mother. Local connection meant I had no choice but to stay living close to her, despite the much stronger support network I had in a different town.

UKIP are just like the major parties - utterly clueless about the real world.

xpatmama · 11/05/2014 13:41

Peggyundercrackers - here you go fact checks on everyone factcheckeu.org just google whichever politician you fancy

The persecution complex is getting a bit old.

Mogz · 11/05/2014 13:41

Here's why I have a problem with them beyond the racist/homophobic/twatish angle...

to ask -what is the problem with UKIP
Alisvolatpropiis · 11/05/2014 13:43

Like the majority of political parties, their manifesto reads fairly reasonably. That is the point.

It's what is hidden in their full policies which is a problem.

Misogynsitic
Racist
Homophobic

Yeah, what is the problem? Hmm

MrsBlackthorn · 11/05/2014 13:46

"if we stripped away all the benefits of being a politician they would all go and work somewhere else."

Sorry, but that really is nonsense. Your average MP works 80 or 90 hours a week. It's an utterly thankless job where almost everyone hates you. The career prospects are terrible. You have to live away from home much of the time. There are few perks. You're in the public eye all the time and every single thing you do is scrutinised. And the money really isn't that good.

An MP who comes to it from another job - in industry, law, etc - will have to take a pay cut to do it.

People do it because they want power, but largely because they genuinely believe in politics as a means of making the world better.

The one thing they don't do it for is the money. I earn more than MP and I get to go home at 6pm.

StarGazeyPond · 11/05/2014 13:47

It's pretty clear to most readers from your posts on this and other threads that you are at the very least seriously considering voting UKIP. Janine said.

As is my right to do so if I so wish.....without fear or hindrance.

Or will I be ostracized, outlawed, have protest leaflets put through my door (as some on here advocate), a burning tyre round my neck?

LittleBearPad · 11/05/2014 13:48

Why Panwearsrosa. What are you going to do to them or about them?

The whole point of a secret ballot is that people can vote as they wish without fear or reprisal or influence. You can't abandon 140 years of secret ballots because you don't like UKIP although neither does anyone with any sense
