to ask -what is the problem with UKIP

that Mners seem to have? I have read through their manifesto and it seems all very reasonable to me.
I can't see why opposing 'open door' immigration, and wanting out of Europe , invokes so much hatred on MN?

Why voting UKIP as a 'protest' is utter bollocks.

JanineStHubbins · 11/05/2014 13:52

a burning tyre round my neck?

Persecution complex much?

peggyundercrackers · 11/05/2014 13:52

sorry xpatmama not sure what you want me to do with that site?

kim 147 you said "UKIP - like other parties - use statistics to scare people - but the statistics they use are wrong." which implies the ukip stats are wrong but the others aren't - what im saying is they aren't any worse than the other main parties - Daniel Hannan said the figure was 84%, call-me dave has mentioned 50%, clegg has mentioned 50% - the fact is they all change their view depending on the year their quote was published.

Panwearsrosa · 11/05/2014 13:54

I didn't say it was because I don't like UKIP, if you read with any care.

At least I would know who is for and against the sort of country/society I'd like to live in.

MrsBlackthorn · 11/05/2014 13:54

It's your right to vote for whoever you like.

But I reserve the right to think you're an idiot if you support UKIP.

Sorry tobys. I misunderstood.

LittleBearPad · 11/05/2014 14:01

Why? Seriously. What difference will it make knowing your neighbour voted Tory, labour, UKIP or Monster Raving Loony.

parkesgirl10 · 11/05/2014 14:05

Pls remember the media / news are biased. I think uk needs big change . Im going to give the one chance .

peggyundercrackers · 11/05/2014 14:06

mrsblackthorn MPs have a gold plated pension, they live away from home for a short period of time during the week but most of the time they are here (my MP lives in his constituency as I suspect a lot do) - cabinet ministers I would suspect are different. they have excellent job prospects - most find jobs out side in industry with no problem, most sit on boards etc. and have second incomes which has only come about because they are MPs.

peggyundercrackers · 11/05/2014 14:07

Mrs Blackthorn I reserve the right to think you're an idiot if you support lib-dems or greens...

dawndonnaagain · 11/05/2014 14:07

parkesgirl You are giving who a chance?
The media are biased, so what do we do when the candidates put their shit on twitter, that's not the media, is it? Or their facebook pages? Where do you think the media gets its information?

xpatmama · 11/05/2014 14:10

Peggy it examines which people are getting the stats wrong, you said that all parties do. Which is kind of correct. I stand by the fact that UKIP often does it more.

Also the point being that everyone should be scrutinised and this constant scream from UKIP that everyone's picking on them is tired. Especially because it normally goes something like this:

I don't like your policies on xxx can you explain. UKIP voter : erm but what about them? Liblabcom etc.

Panwearsrosa · 11/05/2014 14:11

Biased? Yes 'the media' have been biased towards UKIP. All of the 'own goals' and derision-opportunities have been self-generated.

MrsBlackthorn · 11/05/2014 14:16

The sheer brass neck of the whole "the media are biased against us" line is laughable.

UKIP don't have a single MP, yet they're on the news every single day, and Nigel Farage is on Question Time every other week. This week he got 40 minutes on Question Time to talk about Europe, leaving only 20 minutes to talk about all of the other issues - stuff like tax and health and education, that really affects us - on which he appeared to have no idea what his policy even is.

So yes, the media ARE biased - in favour of UKIP.

JanineStHubbins · 11/05/2014 14:17

^^ Yes to this. The amount of coverage UKIP get compared to the Greens is outrageous.

MrsBlackthorn · 11/05/2014 14:24

And yet again, Farage is having to apologise for a candidate being shown up to be a bigot - their candidate in Newark said the public should be free to openly dislike gay people.

But at the same time, Farage claims most over 70s feel uncomfortable about gays.

Their default position is to vote no to everything. Thanks to them, the ivory trade continues.

HauntedNoddyCar · 11/05/2014 14:35
  • As is my right to do so if I so wish.....without fear or hindrance.

Or will I be ostracized, outlawed, have protest leaflets put through my door (as some on here advocate), a burning tyre round my neck?
*

Really? So why exactly did you choose to pop up in a thread purely to abuse me, specifically me, over my intentions a few days ago.

The word hypocrite spring to mind. Don't get all precious about it now Star.

OneStepCloser · 11/05/2014 14:41

One point that is usually forgotten amongst all this, is that if you actually want the UK out of the EU (you'd be bloody stupid to, but if that is what you want), then you should not be voting for them in the European elections, as they can do literally nothing about it from that forum. All you are doing is ensuring that the UK's interests in the EU are getting further marginalised, if not sabotaged, and making things worse for the UK, as the UKIP MEPs refuse to stand up for the UK's position, or attend meetings or votes where they can actually make a positive difference to the UK's interests.

This, I cannot for the life of me unthderstand why UKIP supporters cant get it, this is what your voting for, people to be elected as MEPs who will do nothing, absolutely nothing for the privilege of £78,000 pa plus vast expenses. They will not vote or have any say in Europe at all, they are refusing to involve in anything but a vote on leaving (and the earliest we can leave 2017) so why on earth are people voting for them to be there?

Nice work if you can get it. Jeez no wonder each UKIP MEP voted in in the next few weeks will be smiling.

And you wonder why I think UKIP voters are lacking in brain cells?

Oblomov · 11/05/2014 15:27

one step.
I have seen plenty of REASONABLE arguments, for why it WOULDN'T be catastrophic for UK to leave EU.
why do you think it implies that those that suggest leaving are stupid?

Icimoi · 11/05/2014 15:31

x2boys, if you want more special schools, you can guarantee that the one party which will not give them to you is UKIP. There is no way they are going to spend money on that. What they are planning to do is basically create institutions to lock away people like your son all their lives. You rightly say you don't want asylums back; but it doesn't sound to me like these institutions will be even as kind as asylums were.

Icimoi · 11/05/2014 15:33

Or will I be ostracized, outlawed, have protest leaflets put through my door (as some on here advocate), a burning tyre round my neck?

Protest leaflets put through your door, what a dreadful fate! And of course, to be viewed as directly on a par with being ostracised, outlawed, tortured and murdered.

Persecution complex, much?

OneStepCloser · 11/05/2014 15:43

Whats it got to do with leaving the EU?, its about voting people into a job for the next three years at least who will do nothing at all, not a thing.

David Cameron has said he will have a vote on leaving Europe if thats what you want.
