To ask what age ur LO walked?

Lollypop1983 · 31/03/2014 16:09

My LO is one in Saturday. He is cruising, but can't stand by himself. He shows no interest in walking by holding my hands. He will go on his walker, but doesn't really show an interest in wanting to.

What age did ur LO walk? What signs did u see that they were ready?

I know not to compare, but feel like he's been cruising forever, and isn't making any progress.

DS a week past his first birthday after nearly 4 months of cruising, including a final couple of weeks of edging along the wall, so I really wouldn't worry about your DS's lack of progress. He might just be a cautious little fellow like DS. I would honestly ignore your HV's advice; it won't do anything for your DS's happiness or for your back.

DS walked at 14-15 months, DD walked at 10 months.

Kids are just so different

Lollypop1983 · 31/03/2014 16:59

Jennyl, that's exactly it. He is such a fast crawler, I don't think he sees the point in walking, when he can there faster on all fours. I know that he will, and HV said anytime up to 18 mths is okay.

I suppose I just felt he wasn't making progress, but I'm totally reassured that will come.

I had one who walked at about a year, and one who was 17 months.

There was no cause for concern with either.

ThatBloodyWoman · 31/03/2014 17:00

I did find my late walker was very competent very quickly.

Almost got up running!

Weegiemum · 31/03/2014 17:02

My dd2 cruised from about 10 months but was 17 months before she walked on her own.

My ds was commando crawling at 4-5 months, crawling properly at 8 months, cruising at 12 months and walked at 15 months.

Dd2 never crawled but stood up and really RAN across the room at almost exactly 13 months. When she had to be movement restricted due to a hip problem at age 4 (walking only, no running) we realised she'd never walked - running was what she did!

Bananapickle · 31/03/2014 17:03

My DD cruised from the day she crawled at 8 months but didn't let go and walk until 16 months.
She was absolutely fine but a little frustrating as we parent as I knew she could do it she just lacked confidence.
Also there are advantages to little people not walking too quickly!

Weliveinabeautifulworld · 31/03/2014 17:03

DS1: 23 months
DS2: 13 months

runnerBeanee · 31/03/2014 17:05

11 months to crawl, 16 months to walk.

HowContraryMary · 31/03/2014 17:06

All three walked at exactly the same time - 1 year and 4 days.

snatch - well, that's my theory buggered then Grin

Shizzy · 31/03/2014 17:09

17 months and there is absolutely nothing wrong with my DD - she was happy crawling and cruising and took her own sweet time to walk by herself. I was stressed about it at the time but now know that I had nothing to worry about - all kids are different.

ViviDeBeauvoir · 31/03/2014 17:10

DD was 11 months when she took her first steps but waited another 6 weeks to walk confidently.
DS1 was also 11 months and again walked properly about a month later.
I lived in a house with hard wood floors and neither could crawl until just before they walked either (just bum shuffled).

DS2 is 14 months and after crawling and cruising for about 5-6 months (yes really!) he has finally got the confidence to walk. He hit all his other physical milestones well before DD/DS1 did so I thought he'd be walking much earlier but it didn't work out that way!

They're all different and 1 is very small to be worried.

crazykat · 31/03/2014 17:15

Dd1 was cruising from 7/8 months but didn't walk alone till 12 months. She never crawled.

Ds1 was cruising from about 10months and walking about 12months. He crawled from 11-12months.

Dd2 didn't show any interest in cruising until 12months but she was crawling about 10 months.

Ds2 crawled about 8 months, was cruising by 9 months and walking at 9.5 months.

All babies/toddlers are different. I have two friends with DDs the same age as my dd2, one was walking at 10 months, and the other not till 15 months.

Iirc it's if they get to 18 months and aren't cruising or walking that the doctor would check that there's nothing wrong. Though if your ds is cruising I wouldn't worry. He's probably just happy with how he's getting around at the moment.

Joysmum · 31/03/2014 17:25

This used to bug me when my DD was a baby. It ember friends telling me the age at which their kids walked. What they meant was first steps. What I mean when asked about the age my DD was is the age when walking was her preferred method of getting about.

GirlsTimesThree · 31/03/2014 17:28

DD1 was 9 months and it was a pain in the bum. She could only walk in straight lines, so would get to a wall, table or other obstruction and just stand waiting for us to go and turn her round like a robot so she could toddle off in the opposite direction. It was an exhausting few weeks!
DD2 was 12 months and DD3 was 16 months, but was born six weeks early. She also had no need to move as she had two older, doting sisters to bring her whatever she wanted!

WitchWay · 31/03/2014 17:45

20/12, bottom-shuffled from 10/12

DownstairsMixUp · 31/03/2014 17:49

About 13 months I think it was. He didn't really show many signs, I remember I was in the kitchen and turned round and he was wobbly walking towards me and I squealed at DP that he was walking then he promptly fell on his bum!

bigTillyMint · 31/03/2014 17:52

DD unaided at 10mths, DS unaided at 12mths. Neither barely crawled though!

ikeaismylocal · 31/03/2014 17:56

Ds walked at 10 months.

He cruised at 6 months so it felt like he was cruising forever.

Just before he started walking he learnt to stand up by himself in the middle of the room, my mum said that is a pretty reliable indication that a baby is about to walk.

nannynewo · 31/03/2014 17:56

I used to babysit for a family with 2 little boys. the eldest learnt to walk around 13 months and the youngest was 8 months!! it really does vary. I would not be worried at that age :)

MammaTJ · 31/03/2014 17:58

DD1-9 1/2 months.

DD2- a week before her first birthday. I nearly put a year before her first birthday, now that would be advanced

DS- Eventually! I think he was around 15-16 months old.
