To ask what age ur LO walked?

Lollypop1983 · 31/03/2014 16:09

My LO is one in Saturday. He is cruising, but can't stand by himself. He shows no interest in walking by holding my hands. He will go on his walker, but doesn't really show an interest in wanting to.

What age did ur LO walk? What signs did u see that they were ready?

I know not to compare, but feel like he's been cruising forever, and isn't making any progress.

Samu, ayup. He was shuffling side-to-side, not one-foot-in-front-of-the-other, not sure if this makes a difference. But doing it without assistance (you'd better believe I had my hands nearby 'on the ready', though).

DD was 18 months. We were getting worried. DS was 14 months

IfAtFirstUDontSucceed · 31/03/2014 21:55

It's been interesting to read all of theses comments. My DS is days off his first birthday too with no sign of walking independently either.

He seems to gave been cruising for ages, but has actually become less confident walking while holding my hands. He just has no interest anymore where he used to get quite giggly. Now he just crumples to the floor and demands it be picked up instead.

He has however, suddenly discovered his wooden blocks trolley, which he will whizz round the living room with. Sometimes a bit too fast than his little legs will go :)

Hmmkay · 31/03/2014 21:57

My three were 14 months, 16 months and 18 months. I think 14 months is about average.

MrsKoala · 31/03/2014 22:04

DS was crawling at 7months and took his first unaided steps at 9.5months. My friends DS is 19months and still not walking. My DS is a manic thing, and her DS is a chilled laid back child. Both are 'normal' as far as i'm aware.

Why the rush ? just let them get on with it and enjoy them for what they are doing now. This stage passes so quickly...enjoy it

Turned over back-to-front at 3mo. Nightmare from then on to change nappies!
Crawling at 5mo.
Walking at 8mo3weeks.

Now 2.4, Duracell Bunny extraordinaire. Has a couple of four-word phrases, but not exactly talking yet. Not potty trained - nowhere near being interested in the potty other than for transporting cars and Babybels Grin

DC1 - cruising/push-along walker 9m, walking unaided 12m
DC2 - cruising/walker 6m, walking unaided ~10m

Both DC were walking unaided within 48hrs of having the vtech walker banished to the loft. They're great to start with but we realised with DC1 that the design encourages the child to lean forward and bear weight on their arms - so when they try walking unaided they lean forward and topple over.

DN was 20m, never crawled, never cruised (bottom-shuffler). Just got up one day and ran out of the room, along the hallway and into another room.

All kinds of normal!

HeyNonny · 31/03/2014 23:35

I should also say that both of mine had severe reflux. Reflux babies apparently tend to walk slightly earlier than average on account of having spent so much time upright... Likewise both rolled early (5 and 6 weeks) but there was a strong incentive, in getting away from their own vomit/writhing in pain or in the case of DC1 having to move the whole body due to torticollis. Early development isn't always for positive reasons!

Topseyt · 31/03/2014 23:55

There is s sort of theme that the bum-shufflers, with perhaps one or two exceptions, were generally later walkers than crawlers/rollers.

My theory on that is that bum-shufflers have their hands free to do things in a way that others do not, thus reducing the incentive to get up and walk. I guess that is not 100% foolproof either, but a generalisation.

FreudiansSlipper · 31/03/2014 23:57

16 months

took a few steps at 13 months did not bother much after for some time then suddenly could walk within a week was walking nearly a mile he wouldn't stop :)

I suspect he was practising when my back was turned

late talker too, has not stopped since he started

DramaAlpaca · 31/03/2014 23:59

All three crawled at 8 months.

DS1 walked at 12 months
DS2 at 10 months
DS3 at 11 months

VisualiseAHorse · 31/03/2014 23:59

13 months. Had been cruising and standing for many months before that, cruising started at around 7 months.

MummyDuckAndDuckling · 01/04/2014 00:01

Dd first took 3 steps at 10.5 months but didn't really take anymore till 2 weeks before her 1st birthday. She properly went for it the day after her birthday when she decided that walking was more fun! Grin

chattychattyboomba · 01/04/2014 00:07

DD started walking at 9.5 months.
She did not crawl again from this point on. Just stood up and walked and that was that. She was crawling for a month previously. Had been cruising since about 7 months but able to stand holding on to couch etc since about 6 months. I wish she crawled for longer as she did have the best grasp of space and navigating things (would just step off an edge without scooting down on her bum etc)
She was (and is) big for her age so looked like most 12 month olds at the time. She held her head up from pretty much the day she was born so I guess she was always going to be early walking.
It had no bearing on her development in other areas as she is almost 3 and has only just learnt to jump lol.
Her speech is average and her understanding is again average.

Thisvehicleisreversing · 01/04/2014 00:23

DS1 started walking on his 1st birthday. He was excited by the ball pit grandad was blowing up. Grin

DS2 was 13 months.

stopgap · 01/04/2014 00:39

16 months. DS1 was slow to talk, too, but is a sprinting chatterbox now at 2.7.

stillenacht · 01/04/2014 05:21

Topseyt

DS1 was a bumshuffler...21 months before walkingSmile

CharityCase · 01/04/2014 05:32

DS was 15mo and did not even stand up until he was 13mo (classic asymetric bum shuffler- never crawled). Since then, he was always quite cautious (wouldnt climb a climbing frame etc) and a bit clumsy, and suddenly, in the last few months, (he's 3.7) he has just "got it" and he's scampering up the climbing frames with the kids his own age, and has grown into his limbs.

Topsy DS was referred for physio at 13 mo when not pulling up, and she said that a lot of children who bum shuffle have slight delays with transitional movements (sit to stand, sit to crawl). I had to show DS how to stand up using my hands to move his limbs, and then he got it and started pulling himself up. He would have got it anyway though. I think by then I was just desperate for him to walk because he was so frustrated.

DD was 10 mo. she is the most physically reckless individual I've ever met. It's terrifying. we joke that she's going to be the next skeleton bobsleigh gold medallist.

Madamecastafiore · 01/04/2014 05:48

Both just before 10 months. She was a little dot of a girl who everyone thought had some sort of growth issue as was do small to be walking and DS was a big fat boy who I expected to be a nice easy baby who would be a lot older before he walked. No such luck!

SimplyRedHead · 01/04/2014 06:25

My son is 1 in 10 days and still not rolling (!) or crawling but he can stand!

MummyPig24 · 01/04/2014 06:30
