To ask what age ur LO walked?

My LO is one in Saturday. He is cruising, but can't stand by himself. He shows no interest in walking by holding my hands. He will go on his walker, but doesn't really show an interest in wanting to.

What age did ur LO walk? What signs did u see that they were ready?

I know not to compare, but feel like he's been cruising forever, and isn't making any progress.

11.5 months for DS. One of his friends walked at 17 months, and I bet that by 2yo no one would ever know. So long as they walk by 18 months, you have nothing to worry about!

thebody · 31/03/2014 18:01

ds1 12 months

ds2 14 months

dd1 18 months

dd2 15 months.

Ds 12 months and 2 days. Which was xmas day. Guess he really wanted to open those presents Wink

Dd is not quite 8 months and already cruising. I had hoped I'd get a little bit longer with one of them stationary!

SpocksThirdEar · 31/03/2014 18:07

My first 4 all walked around 16 months. I thought that was late enough!

My youngest didn't walk till he was 21 months. No problems at all, just a late walker.

Ds1 was crawling and cruising from 7 months and would walk perfectly holding hands, but as soon as he let go would fall to the floor to crawl.

He'll get there in his own time!

Huntzberger · 31/03/2014 18:08

Just turned 2, cruising for about 2 months before that. She's big and tall, and was a bottom shuffler, and apparently they walk later. She was referred for assessment at about 18 months.

As AngelaDaviesHair said, people could be astonishingly rude about it. I stopped going to playgroups in the end, and can remember going to a birthday party where other parents openly laughed at her - I could've belted them (didn't, obviously).

katrina81 · 31/03/2014 18:08

DD1 walked at 10 months,
DD2 did not walk until she was 15 months.

Onesleeptillwembley · 31/03/2014 18:11

10.5 months, 10 months and 8.5 months (just over a year between youngest, he always tried to keep up with middle one). Grandchild at just under 12 months. We thought that was late.

landrover · 31/03/2014 18:13

21 months!!! Just lazy!

nickymanchester · 31/03/2014 18:14

What on earth is ''cruising'' - I've never heard this term before?

At 10 months DD1 would crawl across to the wall or settee and use this to steady herself while she got upright and then walk along with one hand out against the wall to support herself as she walked. Is this what people mean by cruising? It then took her a few weeks to walk without using some sort of support.

DD2 started doing a similar thing when she was about 11 months.

TheBookofRuth · 31/03/2014 18:16

DD was 20 months before she could stand unsupported, and 22 months before she could walk. She's 26 months now and runs and walks happily although she can't jump yet.

There's nothing physically wrong with her though, we did get her checked.

TheUnstoppableWindmill · 31/03/2014 18:17

18 months. Didn't start cruising till 15mo after learning to bottom shuffle at 10mo. No one has been the slightest bit concerned (eg HV, nursery) and within 1 month of walking unaided he was running, kicking a ball, walking backwards and standing on tiptoes so caught up quickly! I was told anything up to 18mo is considered normal (and some say up to 20mo).
Don't panic! Flowers

GimmeDaBoobehz · 31/03/2014 18:18

My LO is the same and is actually 1 on Sunday so I know how you mean.

She wont stand on her own either and will sometimes topple over when she is cruising. She would love to walk though - but I think she's a bit nervous to fall flat on her face on the laminate flooring to be honest.

But she gets herself to her knees and will pull herself up on your legs.

I wouldn't worry about it. If by 18 months he isn't walking at least a few steps I would go to your health visitor or doctor and mention it. Some babies are late learners to walk.

I think personally it's because they are focusing on other areas of development. Is he a good speaker/good with his hands?

My daughter is very tactile with her hands and has a pincher grip since about 7/8 months old. She also picks minute bits up off the floor and flicks them as well as hurling things across the other side of the room.

She also has 6 noticeable words that we can understand and a few others we aren't sure what they are but she says them regularly, so they must mean something. I feel she's just focusing on her hand eye co-ordination and her speech more than her walking.

I pretty much took my first steps on my first birthday but I could stand on my own for about a month before then, or so my mother says.

She's also got 4(maybe 5) teeth whereas I had only 3 on the day of my first birthday so I think it could depend a lot on what other things are going on in babies life too. Especially if they've had a cold/flu etc around a big developmental leap.

I'm sure he'll start walking in no time though. I'm enjoying it for the time being because when my daughter starts to walk, she'll be a little terror!

Yanbu to ask ...

GreenLandsOfHome · 31/03/2014 18:19

Ds1 was 11 months for the first wobbly steps. He was really slow at 'progressing' though and was at that wobbly baby stage for ages.

Ds2 took his first steps at 8 months 1 week. Within 3 weeks I bought him proper shoes and at 9 months he was quite capable of walking half a mile to the local shop at a decent pace. He was so small at that age too, it was really quite odd to see him walking around outside lol.

JackShit · 31/03/2014 18:38

16 months. Didn't even weight bear before that, but my goodness could she TALK :D

toobreathless · 31/03/2014 18:48

DD1 14 months (I think, she wasn't walking on her first birthday and was by a wedding at 15 months)

DD2 is 11 months 3 weeks and cruising but not walking.

hazeyjane · 31/03/2014 18:50

DS was 15 months. It was mainly confidence with him, he'd happily walk when holding onto both hands. DD was 10 months.

ShoeWhore · 31/03/2014 19:40

dc1 18 months
dc2 19 months
dc3 21 months!

Dc1 was walking around holding my fingers from around 1 all the way through pg and ms with dc2

Our GP was keeping a close eye on dc3, wouldn't even put feet down to weight bear at 15mo. Did become a very proficient one-knee shuffler though, was amazingly quick at it so I think there wasn't much incentive to walk? May also be worth adding that dc3 was running with a couple of days and long jumping across the room by the 2 year check - I remember giggling at the HV writing down "gross motor skills very advanced" Grin

Dc3 seems to be quite sporty. I also know early walkers who are very sporty and early walkers who are not sporty at all. So my conclusion is it doesn't mean much!

14 months is the average I believe and anything between 9 or 10 mo and 18 mo is considered perfectly within the "normal" range of development.

Bodicea · 31/03/2014 19:42

Apparently my husband was 22 months! I don't hold up much hope for my lazy boy who still isn't rolling or sitting up at 5 months.

KitCat26 · 31/03/2014 19:50

DD1 walked properly at 9.5mths. Crawled at 7mths.
DD2 walked properly at 10mths. Crawled at bang on 6mths.

AdorabeezleWinterpop · 31/03/2014 19:53

DD - 9 months
DS - 11 months
