To refuse to supply more nappies for DS until the nursery supply me with a breakdown of how the last lot were used?

DS goes to nursery 3 days a week. (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday). Last Tuesday I took in two packets of 35 nappies so 70 in total. I assumed these would last at least a few weeks.

This evening they asked me for more nappies. I queried it and they insisted DS had used the lot. This means that in 4 days at nursery he'd used an average of 17.5 nappies a day. They tell me they keep a written record of all changes including the time and whether they were wet or soiled. AIBU to insist they provide it to me and to refuse to bring any nappies or pay their charge for 50p a nappy for each one they provide until they have shown me the original written evidence of all 70 nappies being used on DS?

I've suspected before that they may be using DS's nappies on other children but this is ridiculous surely!!

How old is DS?

Blimey! That's a lot of nappies!! I don't think it's an unreasonable request.

YANBU. Take this to the manager and stand firm. If he'd used that many then either they are changing him every 45 minutes - which is absurd or b) he has a serious medical problem they should have told you about. They have stolen his nappies and they can damn well pay you for them.

I would be telling them that your Doctor is interested in checking your DS's toileting habits and wants a copy of their changing log...

Could you number the next lot with a sharpie & every time you go in, ask how many they've used & check numbers?

A bit of hassle, but might stop them using yours on other kids - which is what is sounds like they've been doing!

Forget asking for the written record as it makes you look petty and they could doctor it anyway. Just insist on discussing it with the manager. Say there's no way on earth he goes through 17 nappies a day so therefore there must have been a mix-up. Say you expect them to provide free nappies until whatever date you calculate to be appropriate based on how many nappies a day he goes through at home.

Assuming it's for 8/9 hours they're changing him every 30 minutes..!

DS has a book that the creche write details of his day in - naps, changes and food. When we bring in nappies we write it on that day's notes so we can check back later. We started doing that because they seemed to get through them really fast, and they've been much better since. Could you do something similar?

Surely they've misplaced them?! My ds is 22 months and is changed every 2 hours at nursery and that's still only 3 nappies a day!

Ridiculous! 17 nappies and not just 17 nappies on one day but 3 days at 17 nappies each day! Ridiculous! Go in and speak to the manager. See how sheepish they look when you ask, 'really, really!'

Stand your ground. This happened to me. She 'suddenly' found them and looked like she was about to shit herself when she realised I was pissed off. Nappies aren't cheap!

They're using them on other children and taking the utter, utter piss. My two were at nursery 10 hours a day and never went through more than 6 nappies even on their worst horrendous teething poos days.

And my DDs nursery did occasionally use mine on other children when they had run out, but they kept a scrupulous record of how many of mine they had used and replaced them. Couldn't fault them.

The only reason they claim to keep a written log is to try to justify themselves. Let them try, if they want.
