To refuse to supply more nappies for DS until the nursery supply me with a breakdown of how the last lot were used?

DS goes to nursery 3 days a week. (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday). Last Tuesday I took in two packets of 35 nappies so 70 in total. I assumed these would last at least a few weeks.

This evening they asked me for more nappies. I queried it and they insisted DS had used the lot. This means that in 4 days at nursery he'd used an average of 17.5 nappies a day. They tell me they keep a written record of all changes including the time and whether they were wet or soiled. AIBU to insist they provide it to me and to refuse to bring any nappies or pay their charge for 50p a nappy for each one they provide until they have shown me the original written evidence of all 70 nappies being used on DS?

I've suspected before that they may be using DS's nappies on other children but this is ridiculous surely!!

It sounds as though they have mislaid one of the packs of nappies. Even 35 in 3 days is heavy going, but 70 is clearly wrong!

AmandinePoulain · 25/03/2014 21:34

We had similar. We provided a large pack of nappies for dd2 who is there 2.5 days per week. Two weeks later they wanted another pack...we queried it and lo and behold they found the 'missing' packet. In their case I think it was just a case of being badly organised rather than trying to con us though Grin

TheCunnyFuntIsGettingMarried · 25/03/2014 21:35

That's ridiculous! Can't wait to hear what the nursery have to say for themselves Hmm

Jenijena · 25/03/2014 21:38

Mmm I think you are me, same days a week, same problem.

Turns out they'd lost hadn't looked in the mess they call a coat hanging area a packet. Still had the cheek to try and charge us.

Twattyzombiebollocks · 25/03/2014 21:40

I've had similar. I called them on it and the nappy use reduced considerably. I have a 14mo and I change her when she wakes, when she gets dressed, before lunch, before afternoon nap, before tea and after bath. That's 6 nappies a day, and since she's awake 5am-7pm which is 14 hours that's just over 2 hours between changes. If you up it to 17 nappies, they would have to be changing him every 45 minutes!

TensionWheelsCoolHeels · 25/03/2014 21:45

YANBU. I'd bet they are charging someone else 50p for each nappy of yours they use too. Cheeky buggers!

ENormaSnob · 25/03/2014 21:47

They are taking the piss.

wobblyweebles · 25/03/2014 21:48

Sorry - that is hilarious. I'm really looking forward to hearing what the manager says.

Capricorn76 · 25/03/2014 21:48

I've had this with a nanny whilst in a nanny share. I was burning through nappies and wipes at industrial levels. Once I challenged, it reduced to normal levels. Literally every other day I was being asked for new wipes. She was 100% using them on the other kids. I can understand occasionally just grabbing whatever's nearest but not all the time.

BrianTheMole · 25/03/2014 21:48

When my dd was at nursery she'd sometimes come home in a different brand nappy. I expect they're just using them on different kids.

Morloth · 25/03/2014 21:48

This used to piss me off no end.

I ended up sending just enough nappies for the day, with his name written on them and numbered.

I didn't mind every now and again but it got to the point where like you, I was pretty much covering all the bums.

KaFayOLay · 25/03/2014 21:49

Can you just send in X amount each day with him?
That's outrageous, 70 nappies indeed!

justtoomessy · 25/03/2014 21:50

Blimey when my son was at nursery I only sent in the nappies he needed for that day in his bag. No way would I have sent in packets of nappies as they will clearly use them on everyone else.

Just send him in with what he needs for that day.

Irritating as f**k but utterly hilarious that they think you are so thick that you will believe 17 changes a day is feasible. Or did you miss the dysentery ?
Please call them on it, in writing, and request a response in writing! Grin

TheFabulousIdiot · 25/03/2014 21:59

Same kind of thing happened to me. There were two possible reasons.

  1. The nappies had been allocated to a child with a very similar name
  2. When I handed them over they were not clearly marked with my son's name so no one knew who they were for.

Yanbu but in future do what I did, I counted out 16 nappies to cover 4 days and took them in weekly.

jacks365 · 25/03/2014 22:01

I am so glad my nursery logs every single change in my dd record book. My dd only goes 2 days a week but we are still on the same pack that I sent in last month.

IsChippyMintonExDirectory · 25/03/2014 22:08

YANBU. 17 nappies a day?! My DD is 9 months old and goes through about 3 nappies a day at nursery. Also they write in her take-home diary how many she's gone through so I can see every day what she's gone through - can you ask for this to be done? It's not an unreasonable request IMO.

Alternatively write in marker pen on the ones you take in "for [insert child's name] only call [phone number] if those buggers have nicked this for your child" Grin

EveryDaysAnAdventure · 25/03/2014 22:10

My DS is 2 and goes to his childminder once a week.

At 19months a pack of 35 nappies would last at least 6 weeks if not 8 weeks so they are definitely up to something!

Definitely too many to use in that period of time. Either ask for a break down or start sending him in with maybe 5 a day or however many he usually gets through.

Nanny0gg · 25/03/2014 22:18

Why don't nurseries supply them and charge a reasonable fee?

Must be a right faff having parents bring them in, surely?

giraffesCantBoogie · 25/03/2014 22:20

Lmao at 17 a day

MooMaid · 25/03/2014 22:22

Shock what the hell! Utter piss take. I'd want my nappies back or to be compensated for that!
